Question:
my trailer gvw is 9000 lbs. and 27foot long. I understand that two sway bars are required. does the sway bars need to be rated 10,000 lbs, or will two 6,000 lbs units suffice?

When it comes to a sway control bar like the # 83660 Reese Friction Sway Control Kit, there is no weight rating. Since you have a trailer length of 27' the # 83660 is what you are looking for. This unit dampens trailer sway caused by crosswinds and traffic for improved stability and increased towing safety.
You are also correct that two are recommended since your GTW is over 6,000 lbs. You will want to install one on the driver side and one on the passenger side.
I have attached a video review for your reference.
