If you're looking for an American-made hitch that rides quietly, offers a quick and easy setup, and provides you with supreme handling, the Blue Ox SwayPro might be just what you're after. When we tested this system, the truck and trailer felt like one unit, and noise wasn't an issue at all. Overall, the SwayPro came out on top and proved to be one of our favorite weight distribution systems.

Pro Tip: Before you invest in a weight distribution hitch, make sure your cargo is evenly loaded in your trailer to keep the weight balanced. If you still have a hard time even after balancing your tongue weight, a weight distribution hitch should help.

Blue Ox SwayPro Offers Superior Sway Control

Blue Ox SwayPro Positive Caster

The SwayPro is designed to keep your trailer centered behind your vehicle as you tow, no matter what crosswinds or obstacles try to get in your way. To do this, the head on the system is built with a positive caster angle. You might've heard of caster in reference to your car; it's the same technology that vehicles use to stay centered on the road. When you turn a corner in your car and let go of the steering wheel, the wheel automatically returns to center. This is caster taking over. Well, the SwayPro functions much the same way. The positive caster angle that's built into this hitch works in tandem with the tapered spring bars to create a self-centering force that keeps your trailer consistently centered behind your tow vehicle.

Blue Ox SwayPro System with Built-In Sway Control Hooked Up

The trunnions inside the head assembly hold the spring bars securely in position, placing just enough tension on them to cause them to constantly hold your trailer in line.

A close-up shot of the Blue Ox SwayPro's bracket shows the chain rotated and pulled taught with very few chain links exposed

At the other end of this weight distribution system, you'll find 2 more points of built-in sway control. Blue Ox's rotating brackets ensure that the lift chains are pulled as taut as possible, with the majority of the chains wrapped up inside of the brackets. Typically, only a couple of links hang down from each bracket. This means that each chain is held more stable than they are in traditional weight distribution systems, where more than twice as many links are exposed.

This tight, stable design limits the movement of the spring bars so that they can exert more force on your trailer to effectively keep it from swaying - all without the creaking, grinding, and popping noises you get with friction-style sway control setups. Moreover, unlike many friction-style sway controls, the SwayPro allows you to back up your trailer without having to remove or disengage anything.

The Blue Ox SwayPro's No-Hassle Setup

When it's time to install the system for the first time, you might be surprised at how easy it is to do. All in all, you can probably have it done within an hour - 2 at the most.

First, the head. With just the right amount of adjustment angle already preset, it's ready to go right out of the box! No need to fine-tune it with hard-to-access washers or a difficult-to-use thumbscrew! The only thing you'll need to adjust is the height of the head on the shank. After that, to get the trunnion bars installed, just insert them into the sockets, and lock them in place with the included pins and clips.

Quick Tip: If you upgrade to a new trailer in the future, and you end up needing a system for a different tongue weight, you can just swap out the SwayPro's spring bars without having to buy a whole new hitch.

To get the Blue Ox SwayPro ready to go, just insert the lift chain into the bracket slot and rotate the bracket with the included wrench until the lock pin engages.

Other weight distribution systems have lift brackets that require you to apply a good amount of leverage to get them to snap up, which can be difficult and frustrating. To get the SwayPro ready to go, all you have to do is insert the lift chain into the bracket slot and rotate the bracket with the included wrench until the lock pin engages.

Why Use a Weight Distribution Hitch?

Diagram showing weight distribution on a truck and towing a camper

  • Prevents uneven tire wear on your vehicle and trailer
  • Keeps the rear of your tow vehicle from sagging
  • Lets you tow to the max capacity of your trailer hitch
  • Stops your headlights from pointing up at the sky
  • Gives you control over steering your rig

Selecting the Right Weight Distribution System

  • Think "Goldilocks"
    • If you go for overbuilt, you'll have a rigid ride
    • If it's not strong enough, it's virtually useless
  • Let your tongue weight be your guide

Your tongue weight is the first thing you need to know when figuring out which weight distribution system you need. Most people think that if they get the highest-rated system possible, it'll be smooth sailing. But actually, this will create a rigid ride and a bouncing trailer. On the other hand, if the system isn't strong enough, it won't be able to distribute the weight properly, making it virtually useless.

Once you know your trailer's tongue weight, add it to the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Then just choose a weight distribution system rated for that combined tongue weight.

After I had ordered my hitch I decided I ordered to heavy of one. I called customer service and they were top notch. My order was corrected, shipped and delivered quickly. I’ve pulled my camper twice more and am happy with it. I’m still figuring out the best link to use for the best ride but the starting point they give you in the instructions is a good starting point. Setup took approximately a half hour

The sway bar is awesome and it works great. I gave it a 4 star because I’m somewhat disappointed with how the racket assembly mounted to my RV is rusting. The powder coating did not hold up. I do not live in a salt environment.

Functionally great! I’m very disappointed with the paintprotective coating. Had to sand everything and repaint because the original coating rusted. Not sure why, I do not live on the coast salt water. Maybe a mid que on prep before powder coating. I can send pics, but pretty you won’t really care.

I have been using the Blue Ox SwayPro WD Hitch for 1,500 tongue weight on our 30' Arctic Fox travel trailer for one year now. No regrets as this hitch has been an easy to setup and use and it seems to do it's job nicely. Due to the height of our trailer's hitch I ordered a Reese Titan Weight Dist Shank to use with the SwayPro and the pair work great together.

by:

The Blue Ox SwayPro 1500 arrived today. Ordered online from eTrailer on Tuesday and delivered to West Michigan on Friday. FAST! etrailer service and support is always First Class. While heavy, the Blue Ox WDH was in perfect condition. The quality and appearance of the Clue Ox is great. The hitch is powder coated and very clean. I was impressed that Blue Ox has totally upgraded the chain latch wrench. No longer that flat piece of metal. The new wrench is a plated, heavy duty socket wrench. Much like a wheel lug nut wrench that is made especially for releasing the latches. Our new TT was delivered to our dealer while our state is in lockdown. There it sits until May 1. I will update review after install and first trip.
With all the changes in the world... very happy to purchase a product Made in U.S.A.

by:

The blue ox did help with swaying but the whole unit started to rust almost immediately. The finish on this is terrible.

by:

The hitch came very quickly and was well packaged. I was surprised to find an upgraded chain tool and 20k lbs ball already attached to the hitch. The reason I have four stars was there was not option to select a longer shank length. So, $[XX] dollars later I was able to get an extended shank for my 3/4 ton truck.

by:

The Blue OX weight distribution hitch is the way to go. With the sway control built in it makes the system more manageable and easy to use. The bars are straight instead of an L for easier storage and the chain tensioner is much easier to load then the typical system that requires going over a high center. I bolted the tensioners to my frame but the standard mount works fine.

by:

Have only used it to drive 15 miles from my trailer dealer to home, but I think I'm going to like this WDH. It seems to do the job, is relatively easy to use. The dealer I bought my trailer from mounted it for me, they'd done many before so it went quickly.
Some hints I'd learned from them and discussion forums - use the trailer jack to lift the front of the trailer/back of the truck to make it easier and safer to install or remove the chains. Use a long breaker bar with a 1" socket for the same reason - the extra leverage over that with the tool supplied with the hitch helps. I painted the chain link on each side that the dealer hooked to so I could get the tension back the way they had it. Will have to see how that works out in the long run, may have to adjust up or down.
FWIW, I measured the distance from the ground to the top of the front and rear fender wells on my truck before and after hooking up the trailer with the BO Sway Pro. The front ended up exactly where it was before, the rear dropped only one inch with 1000 lbs of hitch weight. I'd say the WDH is doing its job!

Ive replaced the 1 socket with a 26mm socket, as it fits better. Only snag we are running into is that the u-bolts that hold the chains to the arms are being bent and worn down from occasional ground scrapes. Ive purchased a pair of the little u-bolts and four self locking nuts from e-trailer, so Ill be prepared if they ever do rub or break off completely.

by:

Packaging was terrible! Paint is beat off of it so bad it looks several years old! Missing parts, one lock washer and no hitch pin!

Hitch was very easy to setup, good instructions. Could use a couple pictures.
Towing a 20’ enclosed car trailer, feels like I’m pulling a smaller / lighter trailer.

by:

The blue ox pro weight distribution looks extremely well built. However, When I ordered the kit, I believe it said it did not come with a ball. So I ordered a ball. I now have an extra ball that I don't need. UPS delivered the box and the box was crushed, two holes punctured into the box. Fortunately for me, all the pieces were still in the box. Past that, I'm excited to pull my trailer and see how it does.

After a year, the hitch assembly is incredible. You dont know how well it is constructed until you see other hitches and the thin material used. I would buy again in a heart beat.

No matter what product you end up buying from etrailer your going to be impressed by their customer service. I purchased the SwayPro Blue Ox BXW1500 for towing a trailer with 1000lbs of tongue weight when empty using a 2018 Nissan Titan. I have never been able to actually level my pickup before with other hitches that I’ve used. I can now level the pickup and trailer to within 1/2”. The BXW1500 was very easy to install. Hookup is simple and easy. When towing the hitch works silently and offers very good vehicle control. The parts of the hitch that you handle have no grease on them. I would recommend theBXW1500 for anyone experiencing truck squat while towing or is tired of a noisy hitch system.

by:

I ordered the Blue OX BXW1500. Installation was easy, I will be testing it next week for the first time. etrailer's customer service was wonderful. I worked with Sarah, she was a wonderful help. After ordering the hitch, I found it for a lower price. etrailer refunded the difference plus another 10% of the difference with no questions asked. I highly recommend etrailer for all your camping needs.

Thanks
Jason

Best weight distribution solution on the market, in my opinion. I have owned a Blue Ox system for many years and haven't had an issue yet - been all over the country and have towed in many different conditions. I have owned other systems (friction based - way too noisy/loud)... this system does its job and does it quietly!! highly recommend Blue Ox!

by:

This is our second Blue Ox system, and we love it. It really holds the trailer tight behind the truck. The service from etrailer was outstanding - I had an issue with my order (part my fault and part theirs) and they resolved it quickly and efficiently. They are so knowledgeable!

by:

Haven't used this yet but I think it will do the job. Customer service has been great! UPS got really ruff with the package and a key element was ejected along the way. etrailer was quick to resolve the issue and shipped the missing part immediately. Great service! Thanks until the next order!

by:

This W/D hitch does everything it is supposed to do. It was very easy to set up and my new trailer tows like a dream. Just a hint-- I mark the chains with some paint so I know where to set them.

Edward

After one year the hitch still is working great! I did some minor chain adjustments to my original setup and it works better now I went one link tighter

by:

I have both an Equalizer and this Blue Ox hitch. I purchased the Blue Ox after I complained of a poor ride with my travel trailer to the dealer. They recommended Blue Ox instead. Frankly it didn't improve the ride at all. Worse, the bars hung so low that they scraped on every speed bump. However this was exacerbated by the way I had to set it up to make the ride at least tolerable. I have now changed travel trailers and tried both hitches on the new one. The new travel trailer sits significantly higher and rides much better. I don't have the problem of the bars hitting the ground. The ride also seems much better then when I use the Equalizer. The final problem I have with this hitch is the that saddle that holds the chains seems to stick very frequently and requires that I release the pin and force it to release the chain with the provided wrench - resulting in frequent minor injuries. Not sure why this happens but I'm getting better at forcing the release with no injuries. Just irritating.

by:

I've driven over 11,000 miles this year, through snow, rain, and gusty winds and have no troubles with this hitch system. Just love it. The finish has chipped off, and in those areas, rust is developing. Otherwise a very good product.

Hi Douglas, Thanks for your feedback! With the powder coating being chipped off, I would recommend cleaning the rust off and applying a rust resistant paint to the bare metal. This will help prevent the rust from spreading. I have attached a helpful article that goes into better detail.

by:

First I have to recognize and thank the excellent etrailer customer service. The etrailer team contacted me immediately to address an order issue, and did so quickly. The BXW1500 arrived in a timely manner, and the only issue was the shipping/handling by UPS. The box was rather beat-up, and the chains were hanging out, but all of the product was intact and we had no issue with install.

The ride is significantly better than the previous hitch from the dealer (R3 Recurve), and I have noted improved distribution across the axles at the scales. Previous setup was a lesser bar rating, and we determined the tongue weight and cargo was at the higher end of the bar. As such, we chose the 1500 lb TW bars.

The BXW1500 material and build quality is quite impressive, particularly in comparison to the previous hitch.

Vehicle and trailer is: 2015 Silverado 1500 with Max-Trailering Package and a 2020 GD Imagine 2800BH.

by:

I replaced a broken old Eaz-lift hitch with this one on a 10k cargo trailer. The difference in ride quality is night and day. Well worth the step up in price. I feel like I'm driving a Cadillac compared to before. Set-up was easy, instructions were clear and concise. I greatly enjoyed not having to set the angle as it is built in. (Less to adjust, less that can go wrong/break).

I do a lot of backing up at sharp angles as I use my trailer for food deliveries in tight spaces behind small restaurants/stores. I've not had any issues with this hitch while doing so. My load weights also vary greatly from beginning to end of day (full vs. empty). It is as smooth empty as it is full. The bars have a broad tongue weight rating range which works great for my application!

I've not had it long enough to comment on long-term durability, but it is built tough and engineered smart. I expect it to last as long as I do. You get what you pay for. Great product!

by:

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE BLUE OX SWAY PRO!!!!! SUPER FAST EASY INSTALLATION & SET-UP. HOOK-UP & DISCONNECT TO TRAILER ARE A BREEZE. RELIEVE TENSION ON TORSION BARS A MUST WHEN CONNECTING & DISCONNECTING. TOP QUALITY CONSTRUCTION, MADE IN THE USA!!!! NEVER TOWED BETTER THAN WITH THE BLUE OX. THANKS E-TRAILER FOR SELLING SUCH GREAT PRODUCTS AT SUCH GREAT PRICES.

by:

For Etrailer, A+ for excellent customer service as usual! Shipping was very quick. Regarding the hitch, I think this one is going to be a real winner. Installation was quick and easy. Anyone with basic tools can easily install and setup this hitch. The only thing most people won't have is the 1 7/8" socket needed to tighten the nut that secures the ball to the hitch itself. You'd also need a torque wrench or impact wrench that can achieve [specs]. Instead, I just took it to a local shop. It took them two minutes and they didn't even charge me.

After installing and setting up the hitch, I took measurements of the height of the truck's front fender both hitched and unhitched. It was exactly the same, which as I understand is ideal. Without any weight distribution, the front of the truck rises about 1/2" when you drop the trailer on the ball.

I haven't towed with the new setup yet, but I expect it to do really well based on what I'm seeing so far. I'll come back and update after my first trip next week.

by:

First one was super easy to install, although it is absolutely heavy. Adjustment was easy. Attaching and detaching to the trailer is easy. I am at the maximum towing capacity of my truck, and this hitch works. No sway, no lift in the front. The back does squash down quite a bit, but I have a 100% stock suspension; no airbags.

My hitch was stolen. Someone broke the lock and removed it. I quickly purchased another one.

This would have been a 5 star rating, except for the shank of the second hitch. There seems to be too much powder coating on the shank. Even with some persuasion, I am unable to put the shank into the receiver. I submitted an issue to etrailer and look forward to hearing from them soon.

I have had nothing but great dealings with etrailer and when I had to purchase the second hitch, I went straight back to them.

We were very lucky all the parts were in the box.

  • How Does Sway Control Work on B&W Continuum Weight Distribution System 1,600 Lbs
The B&W Continuum Weight Distribution System part # BW78FR per B&W, does have built-in sway control. That said, all weight distribution systems have some sway control as they provide friction at the connection point which will then in turn prevent sway. This is more or less known as two point sway control. Therefore, the system will help to prevent sway from occurring but it won't do much to stop it once it occurs. This is know as four point sway control like what you see on the Reese Steadi-Flex...

The Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control part # BXW1500 has a max rise of 8" and max drop of 2". If the distance from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening is not within the range above when compared to the distance from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler while level then you will need a new shank. The lift kits we offer all provide more than 1-1/4" so it would indeed appear you need a shank with more rise/drop. The Blue Ox SwayPro Weight...

  • Trouble Hauling 2 Campers with 1 of Them on Flatbed of Ram 5500 Pickup
Wow, there is quite a bit to unpack here. Sorry to hear that you are having a bad experience towing and hauling with your Ram 5500 truck. The first thing to check is your weight. Make sure that your truck isn't being overloaded and that the trailer you are towing is loaded in such a way that the tongue weight is 10-15% of the weight of the trailer as this will affect the towing performance. If all of this checks out then we can move on to the next thing. Putting the lower trailer on your...

  • Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Towing 10k Camper Trailer
The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use. Your tongue weight is going to be...

  • Correct 2-5/16 Inch Hitch Ball For Blue Ox SwayPro
The only thing you need to know regarding the correct 2-5/16" hitch ball for the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution # BXW1500 is the size of the shank to get one that fits. This system requires a hitch ball with a 1-1/4" shank so what you can use is the following hitch ball: - 2-5/16" Hitch Ball - 1-1/4" Diameter x 2-5/8" Long Shank # C40085

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System For Trailer With Angled Channel Frame
The weight distribution system I recommend for your trailer is # RP66542. This system is designed for trailers with a tongue weight range between 600 and 1,200-lbs, Since you have angle channel for the frame the snap-up brackets included with the WD system will not work but we do have a solution for you. I recommend using bolt-on brackets like part # RP58305. The hitch ball is not included with the system so for a 2-inch hitch ball you can use part # A-90 and if you need a 2-5/16 inch...

  • Larger Blue Ox Clamp On Lift Brackets Needed for 8 Frames
The Blue Ox # BXW1500 Weight Distribution Hitch utilizes clamp-on brackets to tighten the chains at, but as it turns out will not work with larger 8" frames. You will need to use the Blue Ox # BLU98FR Lift Brackets for 8 inch frames. I reached out to my contact at Blue Ox to see if they had the 1500 kit with the larger brackets included and they did not. As I recall from your question a few weeks ago, you needed a system to handle 1500 pounds of tongue weight. The Blue Ox # BXW1500...

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch That Is Quiet To Tow Venture STT343VIK Travel Trailer
The Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution Hitch # BXW1500 you were looking at does check the boxes of being compatible with electric trailer brakes, allows backing the trailer up with the system connected, and since it uses chains to put tension on the spring bars instead of L-brackets it will be quite a bit quieter than the majority of hitches. Now to make sure it will be the best option for towing your Venture SportTrek Touring STT343VIK with your 2021 Nissan Titan XD 4WD you will need...

  • Determining The Correct Weight Distribution Hitch For Towing 2016 Gulf Stream Wide Open 310KBS
I would be happy to go over finding the correct weight distribution hitch for towing your 2016 Gulf Stream Wide Open 310KBS with your 2016 GMC Sierra 2500HD, but you will want to confirm the total tongue weight of your setup. Total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to tow trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your truck. The easiest way to get an accurate tongue weight measurement is with a tongue weight scale like the # e99044 but...

  • How to Use Blue Ox Weight Distribution in 3 Inch Hitch
While there is not a 3 inch shank available for a Blue Ox weight distribution system like the Blue Ox SwayPro # BXW1500, a reducer is definitely a viable option that is just as safe and will work really well. The best option for this is a reducer sleeve that fits inside your 3 inch receiver as opposed to an adapter that sticks out of the hitch, and for that you will need the Curt Hitch Receiver Reducer Sleeves - 3" to 2-1/2" or 2" # C45408. This will just slide into your hitch so there...

  • Best Weight Distribution System w 4-Point Sway Control
Since you have gone up so much in weight I recommend replacing your current system with something built specifically to handle that much capacity. Throwing parts at your current EZ lift weight distribution hitch isn't going to change how under rated it is. I saw you were looking at the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control item # BXW1500 and the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control item # C17501.
