Video Transcript for What to Know About the Replacement Trunnion Spring Bar for Reese Weight Distribution System

Today we're gonna take a look at the replacement trunnion spring bar for the Reese weight distribution system. This has an 800 pound maximum tongue weight capacity. Now this is a replacement spring bar, it's designed to work on the Reese weight distribution system. This is a trunnion bar, it is hot rolled and tapered for nice superior strength and flexibility. The trunnion end, which is right here, is what will connect into the head assembly. And then the curved end on this side will connect to lift chains that will connect it to the lift brackets. Also, this spring bar could be used with the dual-cam sway control by Reese.

The curved end here is designed for use with that system. It does attach to the sway control arms. It will sit right on the sway control arm. Now we do sell that dual-cam sway control system separately on our website, it's part number RP26002.Now again, the tongue weight rating on this is 400 pounds to 800 pounds. And it is for a quantity of one spring bar.But that should do it for the review on the replacement trunnion spring bar for the Reese weight distribution system.

With this 800 pound maximum tongue weight capacity.

I would like to thank Amy for being very helpful in helping me make the right purchase. I felt she went above and beyond with her help and sent me the right spring bar.

After using a tongue weight gauge I decided to drop from 1200# to 800# bars. I got them in 3 day. Thanks for the great customer service. I tell everyone about etrailer.

LESSON LEARNED!!!! READ IF YOU ARE NEW TO TRAILERING!!!!
I bought a new 27' travel trailer. Naturally, I needed a way to couple it to my vehicle safely. I have about ten years experience towing with a weight distributing hitch, so I was reasonably confident I knew what I needed when ordering a new one. I estimated that the toungue weight on my mew trailer would be in the 900lb range. I purchased a Reese dual cam package rated for 1100lb tw from Etrailer. I installed it according to the specifications and measurements outlined with the instructions. I found myself making adjustment after adjustment to get the trailer to "settle down" at speed. After trying everything from moving all weight possible to the toungue to changing the angle of the spring bars several times, I decided to weigh the tongue at a local truck scale. I was 503 lbs...... unloaded.... My spring bars were obviously waaaay to stiff to be effective. I ordered 800lb spring bars from Etrailer, installed them, and road tested them. The vehicle ensemble drove and handled like a dream. It felt extremely stable at interstate speeds. So take a lesson from me......do your homework before you order your stuff.

I changed from 600lb bars to 800lb bars I still don't like the Reese Dual Cam hitch I thought maybe a heavier bar might make a difference they did stop the porpoiseng but still get some sway . that's why I only gave 3 stars nothing wrong with etrailer service and support .

by:

I have the “Old Style” Reese dual cam setup on my 2 horse trailer with large tack room bumper pull. I lost one trunnion style spring bar and the bolt on cam that’s attached to the underside end of the bar (see picture). Reese discontinued making parts for that system in the early 2000’s, my system was purchased in 1969. Looked everywhere with no success. I called Etrailer and for a new dual cam system and talked to Nicholas C, he advised me that the RP22225 spring bars would replace the old spring bars and cam. I had my doubts until he sent me a customers picture with the RP22225 bars on the same system I have, “A picture is worth a Thousand words”. Nicholas C And the Etrailer save me over $300 in unnecessary parts and a days labor setting up a new weight distribution system.

by:

This is a great weight bar. Very simple to install and seems well built. I have been around other styles and choose the trunnion style for its ease of installation. Also, etrailer customer service can not be beat! They will not stop until your situation is resolved. This was the case on another product a friend purchased and I was hooked on etrailer since then!

by:

Etrailer had the cheapest price I have ever seen for 800lb spring bars and free shipping. I placed the order at 5:30pm CST on a Saturday and the bars were at my house on Wednesday!!! Completely satisfied and will definetly look to etrailer for future trailering needs.

by:

The new weight distribution hitch exceeded my expectations
Pricing was excellent,
Customer service was second to none!

by:

I don't have much to say about the product, it is a good product well worth the money. I will say one thing about etrailer if you're looking for RV parts or anything related I highly recommend them they are very knowledgeable staff and fast shipping and the price was great.

by:

The service agent who helped me was very helpful. I lost a stabilizer bar on a trip from Missouri to Florida. The correct bar was delivered right to my RV site. I would recommend e-trailer for all trailer needs. Barry

by:

I needed lighter spring bars for my lighter weight trailer. Etrailer had the perfect replacement for a great price.

by:

Got exactly what I ordered and it arrived when I wanted it, you can't beat that!
Thank You etrailer.com

by:

Had a trunnion bar delivered to my campsite while on vacation. Arrived very quickly. Reasonalbe price. Thanks a lot!

by:

Got exactly what I needed to replace an item you might think no one would want to steal right out of your own back yard. It appears in the product pictures as if the head end has an offset but it does not. The top and bottom pins are straight in line with the bar so that it can be used on either side.

by:

We had broken a spring bar on a large rock while out of town, etrailer
quickly sent a replacement so we could make our trip back home.

by:

Extremely prompt and courteous service. Highly recommend.

by:

Good product didn’t realize the chain and clamp weren’t included. All pictures showed the chain and clamp. Now I have to find those parts and wait for their delivery. A bit disappointed in all parts being separate. I lost my entire old one so I don’t have those parts available.

All of our replacement parts are sold separately just in case someone needs just that specific item and not the rest. The chain kit you need is Item # 3216, but I am not sure what you mean by clamp.

by:

works perfectly with my older Reese head unit.

by:

Fast, easy, and efficient!

by:

Shipping was prompt, as usual, and order was correct. The wd bars work as they should.

by:

Great service and product was excavated what I needed.. thanks

by:

Great products, great company to deal with. Will use again in the future.

We lost this part during our 10 hour drive to Myrtle Beach. I ordered and it was delivered in 3 days right to our campsite.

  • Selection of Weight Distribution/Sway Control System for Travel Trailer
The key factor for selection of a suitable weight distribution system is the total effective tongue weight. This figure includes the fully loaded trailer's measured tongue weight (loaded with all gear and supplies exactly as it will be when you head out) plus the weight of anything in the tow vehicle that is located over or behind the rear axle. Trailer dry hitch weight is not enough to select a system. The linked article describes several ways to take a precise measure of your trailer's...

  • Weight Distribution System for Dump Trailer With Wide Tongue Weight Range
It is definitely possible to use a weight distribution system with your dump trailer and the 400-1,400 lb tongue weight range. What I recommend is a tongue weight scale along with a WDH that has a wide range. For a tongue weight scale I recommend the # e99044. This will plug into the OBD II port on your truck and allow you to easily check as the tongue weight changes throughout the day. For a WDH, I recommend the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # RP66130. This has...

The bars are sold individually, and each bar mentioned above would be compatible with the # RP58167 Weight Distribution Head you mentioned.

  • Can the Reese Dual Cam RP26002 Work On Straight Spring Bars?
To get the Reese Dual Cam Sway Control System # RP26002 to fit, your spring bars will need to have a curved end that the chains are attached to. Kind of hard to explain, so I did include a picture of the end of the bar this fits. With that being said though, the # RP26002 will not be able to work with your current spring bars. You may be able to replace your current spring bars with something like the # RP22225, but you will need to confirm the weight capacity needed before doing so.

  • Strait-Line Weight Distribution for a 2015 Ram 1500 and 2012 Windjammer Travel Trailer
To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. Tongue weight is typically 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight so on a 7,200 pound trailer that would be 720 to 1,080 pounds so the 1200 pound system (which is actually rated for 600 to 1200 pounds)...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Sway After Installing a Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System
It is interesting that you are experiencing more sway with the 1,200 lb Strait-Line # RP66084. Typically what we see is that weight distribution (WD) systems that are overrated for their towing setup cause the trailer to be more stiff. Nevertheless you do need to swap out the bars for part # RP22225 which would then make your tongue weight range 400 lbs - 800 lbs and would be a better fit for your application. Other things to help combat sway are making sure that your trailer is properly...

  • Parts Needed to Increase the Capacity of Reese RP66082 Strait-Line Weight Distribution System
In order to increase the capacity of the # RP66082 to 800 lbs, you'd replace your existing spring bars with part # RP22225. The # RP22225 replacement trunnion spring bar has an 800 lb capacity. This bar would best be used on trailers with a fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight ranging from 400-800 lbs. For a ready to tow tongue weight from 600-1200 lbs, use part # RP66009. The bars are sold individually. I've linked you to some helpful FAQ articles about weight distribution.

  • Can Reese Strait Line Weight Distribution 66084 be Converted to 66083
Yes, you would just need to replace the spring bars of the # RP66084 and you would have basically the # RP66083 as that is the only difference. For spring bars you would then just need a quantity of 2 of the part # RP22225.

  • Will New Reese Spring Bars Fit in Place of Older Draw-Tite Spring Bars
If your bars are labeled as Draw-Tite then the system is probably fairly old. There have been changes made to the heads over the years and the new bars will not fit in the old head. To change the bars you would also need to change the head with # RP58167.
