Video Transcript for Review of Reese - Weight Distribution - RP22225

Today we're gonna take a look at the replacement trunnion spring bar for the Reese weight distribution system. This has an 800 pound maximum tongue weight capacity. Now this is a replacement spring bar, it's designed to work on the Reese weight distribution system. This is a trunnion bar, it is hot rolled and tapered for nice superior strength and flexibility. The trunnion end, which is right here, is what will connect into the head assembly. And then the curved end on this side will connect to lift chains that will connect it to the lift brackets. Also, this spring bar could be used with the dual-cam sway control by Reese.

The curved end here is designed for use with that system. It does attach to the sway control arms. It will sit right on the sway control arm. Now we do sell that dual-cam sway control system separately on our website, it's part number RP26002.Now again, the tongue weight rating on this is 400 pounds to 800 pounds. And it is for a quantity of one spring bar.But that should do it for the review on the replacement trunnion spring bar for the Reese weight distribution system.

With this 800 pound maximum tongue weight capacity.

Got exactly what I needed to replace an item you might think no one would want to steal right out of your own back yard. It appears in the product pictures as if the head end has an offset but it does not. The top and bottom pins are straight in line with the bar so that it can be used on either side. 405643

After using a tongue weight gauge I decided to drop from 1200# to 800# bars. I got them in 3 day. Thanks for the great customer service. I tell everyone about etrailer. 124814

LESSON LEARNED!!!! READ IF YOU ARE NEW TO TRAILERING!!!! I bought a new 27' travel trailer. Naturally, I needed a way to couple it to my vehicle safely. I have about ten years experience towing with a weight distributing hitch, so I was reasonably confident I knew what I needed when ordering a new one. I estimated that the toungue weight on my mew trailer would be in the 900lb range. I purchased a Reese dual cam package rated for 1100lb tw from Etrailer. I installed it according to the specifications and measurements outlined with the instructions. I found myself making adjustment after adjustment to get the trailer to "settle down" at speed. After trying everything from moving all weight possible to the toungue to changing the angle of the spring bars several times, I decided to weigh the tongue at a local truck scale. I was 503 lbs...... unloaded.... My spring bars were obviously waaaay to stiff to be effective. I ordered 800lb spring bars from Etrailer, installed them, and road tested them. The vehicle ensemble drove and handled like a dream. It felt extremely stable at interstate speeds. So take a lesson from me......do your homework before you order your stuff. 26155

I have the “Old Style” Reese dual cam setup on my 2 horse trailer with large tack room bumper pull. I lost one trunnion style spring bar and the bolt on cam that’s attached to the underside end of the bar (see picture). Reese discontinued making parts for that system in the early 2000’s, my system was purchased in 1969. Looked everywhere with no success. I called Etrailer and for a new dual cam system and talked to Nicholas C, he advised me that the RP22225 spring bars would replace the old spring bars and cam. I had my doubts until he sent me a customers picture with the RP22225 bars on the same system I have, “A picture is worth a Thousand words”. Nicholas C And the Etrailer save me over $300 in unnecessary parts and a days labor setting up a new weight distribution system. 639303

I changed from 600lb bars to 800lb bars I still don't like the Reese Dual Cam hitch I thought maybe a heavier bar might make a difference they did stop the porpoiseng but still get some sway . that's why I only gave 3 stars nothing wrong with etrailer service and support . 555280

This is a great weight bar. Very simple to install and seems well built. I have been around other styles and choose the trunnion style for its ease of installation. Also, etrailer customer service can not be beat! They will not stop until your situation is resolved. This was the case on another product a friend purchased and I was hooked on etrailer since then! 527277

  • Replacement Arms and Shank for Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System
  • By hitch I assume you mean the shank. I would need to know the model number of the weight distribution system to get you the correct replacement arms. If you could get back to me with that information I may be able to find a solution for you.

  • Can 1,200 lb Bar # RP66009 Replace 800 lb Bar # RP22225 for Reese Strait-Line WD System
  • Both the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System # RP66083 for 800 lbs Tongue Weight (TW) and the System # RP66084 for 1,200 lbs of TW use the same head unit and lift brackets. This means that you can replace your 800 lb bars, part # RP22225, with the 1,200 lb bars, part # RP66009. The bars are sold in a quantity of 1 so you will need to purchase 2 for your replacements.

  • Replacement Head for Reese Trunnion Bar Weight Distribution System
  • The Replacement Head for Reese Weight Distribution System # RP58167 is the correct replacement head for all of the Reese systems that use trunnion bars. To further verify that this will fit with your existing bars, I went out to the warehouse and pulled a compatible Replacement Trunnion Spring Bar # RP22225 so I could take a couple measurements. The pin at the end of the bar is 1 inch in diameter and the space from end to end is right at 4-1/4 inches, matching the measurements you took...

  • How to Determine Tongue Weight when Choosing a Weight Distribution System
  • The trailer should have listed somewhere on it or in its literature the tongue weight that it should be. Typically tongue weight is 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight but not always (this is especially true on boat trailers since the back of a boat weighs more than the front). It sounds like you are adding the vehicle weight or part of the vehicle weight to the trailer weight but this is not correct. You would add the weight of cargo LOADED behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle...

  • Which Spring Bars Would be Best 600 lb or 800 lb For Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 and Starcraft Hybrid Antiqua
  • When determining the correct spring bars for your trailer you will need to take into account the weight of gear loaded behind the rear axle of the truck and the additional tongue weight loaded in the camper. I believe larger is better but in your case the 1,200 pound bars are too stiff if they are causing the ride to be uncomfortable. I would go with the 800 pound spring bars, item # RP22225, since you will have gear behind the rear axle and gear to load into the camper. With 350...

Check out the picture I attached that shows which bars will work and which will not. • How to Identify Weight Rating of Weight Distribution Springs Bars
  • Unless there is obvious damage to your weight distribution spring bars - rust, chipped-off material, or a clearly inappropriate bend - they should still be functional. On a trunnion style bar like Reese # RP22225 there is a bend at the trailer end of the bar which engages with the dual cam sway control. On a round bar like # RP58115 there are bends at both ends. The thing is you need to know the tongue weight they are rated for. Spring bars can look very much the same but be rated differently....

  • Yes! The trunnion bars for the 1,200 lb and 800 lb Reese Strait-Line weight distribution (WD) systems use the same head unit so they are interchangeable. I recommend going with the 12K system # RP66074 since it already has the tongue weight (TW) range of 600 lbs - 1,200 lbs and then getting the 400 lb - 800 lb TW bars # RP22225 when you need them. To this you need to add the weight of anything in the truck bed that sits behind the rear axle, such as a loaded cooler. The problem is the newer parts are not compatible with the older parts. The new bars will not fit in the old head, so you would have to replace that as well.
