We ordered 3 Kenda S-Trail 145/12 tires for our pop-up, along with Reese friction sway control, sway control tab, and a Camco step cover. The order arrived quickly, was complete, and was packed well. We've dealt with etrailer before and this is their usual excellent service. Now to get the tires put on and we'll see how we like them!

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Accessories and Parts

  • Should Weight Distribution and/or Sway Control Be Used on a 1,000lb Little Guy TAG Trailer
The trailer is so light that weight distribution would not be needed but adding a sway control bar wouldn't hurt and would add stability and peace of mind for sure. You won't really know if weight distribution will be required until you tow the trailer loaded. If it then ends up weighing at least 50 percent of the vehicle weight (which based on the numbers isn't even close) or causes the rear end of the tow vehicle to sag then weight distribution is a good idea. For just sway control...

  • Is There Difference Between Weld On and Bolt On Style of Sway Control Bracket for Friction SC
The only difference would be the install of the part # RP26003 or a weld on bracket part # 3442. Aside from that they function the same. With the weld on bracket you'll have to find a welder to do the work, but the added thickness of the # RP26003 might create the need for a taller shank hitch ball.

  • Can a Weld-On Sway Control Tab be Installed on a Reese Weight Distribution Head
The issue that you will run into with the head of Reese weight distribution system # RP66131 is that the head is cast steel. Welding to cast can be difficult and requires someone with experience welding to cast to perform the installation. Other than that there aren't any specific guidelines for sway control tab # 3442.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution Sway Control for 2013 Lincoln Navigator and 33 Foot Travel Trailer
If you already have a sway bar installed, you have some help, but not enough. The friction sway bars are for trailers under 26 feet long, so you would need to add a second one for a trailer of your length. This will require a bracket like # 3442 to be welded on to secure the 2nd friction bar to a ball mount or a weight distribution head with two options like # PS58442 to mount a second bar like # 83660. For the best sway control option, I recommend upgrading your system to a weight...

  • Availability of Replacement Friction Pads for Sway Control Bars
We do offer replacement friction pads for the Reese SC Weight Distribution/Sway Control system. The pads alone are offered in a set of four and include the mounting screws. The pads measure 1-23/32-inches long x 7/16-inches thick. This is part # 58512.

  • Recommended Sway Control Tab For Adding Second Sway-Control To Trailer With Reese WD System
On some but not all of the weight distribution systems, there are two tabs for the sway control system. Typically, to add a second sway-control bracket to their WD hitch, the Draw-Tite Sway Control Tab, part # 3442 is welded on to the head of the system, giving an additional mount for the sway control ball as you asked about. You can then add the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit, part # 83660 which has the ball included and can be used in the # 3442 tab.

  • How to Install Sway Control Kit on Driver Side of Vehicle
A sway control unit like the Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 can attach to either side of the trailer tongue. To attach it to the driver's side of the tongue, you will just need to weld the Sway Control Tab # 3442 to the driver side of your ball mount platform. I recommend having a certified professional perform the necessary welding. The adapter brackets like the Reese # RP26003 can only be used for attaching a sway control unit on the passenger side.

  • Can RP26003 Sway Control Plate Be Used on Left Side of Ball Mount
I do have an option that will allow you to use a sway control bar on the left side of a ball mount, however, the Reese Sway Control adapter plate # RP26003 is designed to be used on the right side only. To be used on the left side, this plate would have to be turned upside down and the lip on the bottom of the plate would not allow the hitch ball to be completely tightened to the plate and the lip would interfere with the operation of the sway control bar. The Reese Friction Sway Control Kit # 83660 can be used on either the driver or passenger side. The Reese Sway-Control Bracket for 1-1/4" Drawbars - Class II # RP26005 is intended for use only on the passenger side and only in the drop position. In your case, I recommend the Sway Control Tab (Weld On) # 3442 which can be used in the rise position because it is welded directly to your ball mount. There is not an easy adapter for your application that doesn't include welding on a tab like this.

  • Can Friction Sway Control Be Installed on Driver Side of Trailer
You can pretty easily install a friction sway control system on the driver side of a trailer. You would just need to remove the inner piece of the system like part # 83660 and then rotate it 180 degrees and reinsert it into the outer piece. You would then need the part # 3442 to weld onto the driver side of your ball mount.

This adjustable friction sway bar can be added using the Reese Sway-Control Bracket for 2" Ball Mounts - Class III and IV # RP26003 or the 1-1/4 inch ball mount bracket # RP26005. It is recommended to pull the cotter pin to disengage this bar when backing up. You can also expand this system by adding another bar...

You can use sway control only with an adjustable ball mount in one of two ways. First, you could use sway control bracket # RP26003 which will fit a ball mount platform up to 2.610 inches wide. It also has a 1 inch diameter hitch ball hole. The other option is to weld on a sway control bracket # 3442. Welding should be performed by a qualified professional welder. If your 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan has a 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch receiver then you cannot use weight distribution because the hitch is not rated for it and cannot handle the stress. You would have to have a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver that is rated for weight distribution AND the vehicle must also be rated for it (consult vehicle owners manual).
