Lighter weight than my earlier shank, and the height of the hitch is much better. The connection to my Airstream trailer works better, no longer screeching, and the trailer is much more horizontal. The shank no longer is subject to occasional digging into the ground or scratching across a speed bump.

The Reese shank that I bought last year and have been using has been great. This summer I had a new hitch receiver installed on my Ram 1500, which lowered the receiver somewhat. Because of this, I flipped the new shank, so my hitch is better positioned. This shank is much lighter weight than shank I used in the past, and which was unsuitable to flip over because it was too long to use with its vertical part pointing up.

by:

I purchased this as a replacement for the other Reese shank in the picture. I wanted the longer one but the WD head holes are set back a 1 1/4” vice the more nominal 1”. This slight 1/4” difference kept the Equalizer 12k head from pivoting and the lack of a solid face does not have a place for the adjustment bolt to push on. This one has 9 1/2” distance from the receiver pin to center of the riser arm. Many are only 8” , so the additional 1 1/2” allowed for enough clearance for the tailgate to lie flat and has a solid face. I’m happy with this one.

by:

This shank was purchased to pull a 37-foot, 9800-lb. conventional travel trailer. Absolutely no problem for this robust Reese shank.

by:

Great product & company. The only place to purchase trailer parts & accessories for trailer or tow vehicle is etrailer.

by:

Well built and the service from etrailer was the best.

by:

The extra hole gave me the extension I needed Now my RV is level with the truck and in arrived on time

by:

exactly what I needed. price was good and shipping was great.

by:

Product came undamaged, on time and fit the application.

by:

Flipping my shank over in the raised position made my ball too high and having it down made it to low. This shank was perfect as I could raise my ball just one more hole because of how this one is more of a T-shape versus an L, thus it has one more hole that I can raise my ball without flipping the shank over. It has worked out perfectly.

by:

This drop shank does exactly what it's supposed to do. I have a 2015 Nissan Titan and a 2016 Airstream. Airstreams are low profile, modern pickup trucks sit high. I had to replace the shank that came with a Reese hitch in order to level the airstream behind the Titan. This one is JUST long enough. Have had several thousand miles of problem-free towing.

  • Replacement Shank For Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution System
Hi Jennifer! I'm not POSITIVE of what you mean by the bar to put the Steadi-Flex on, but my head's going towards the Shank # RP54998. Is this what you're needing? Just let me know if not, because I'm pretty certain we can find the solution regardless.

  • Weight Distribution System for Trailer with Covered A-Frame
The Pole-Tongue Adapter for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems part # EQ95-01-5950 is designed to be used on straight-tongue trailers and would not work with your a-frame trailer. Since you said that the tongue of your a-frame is covered by the nose of the trailer you will want to consider a system that uses chains and attaches directly to the sides of the frame rails rather than clamping around them. For this, I recommend the Strait-Line Weight Distribution w Sway Control part #...

Thanks for the picture! That's a large drop you are needing. I recommend the Curt Weight Distribution Shank - 12" Long - 15-3/4" or 16-1/4" Drop - 1,500 lbs TW item # C17125. The Curt shank is compatible with your Reese weight distribution system. I have attached a diagram detailing the dimensions of this shank so you can confirm you need one with this big of a drop.

  • Can Equal-i-zer 16,000 lb Weight Distribution Hitch be Used With 2 Inch Shank
I reached out to Equal-i-zer who said a 2 inch shank is compatible with the 16,000 lbs towing/1,600 lbs tongue weight Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System with 4-Point Sway Control # EQ64FR. For a 2 inch shank with a a 16,000 lb towing/1,600 lb tongue weight capacity, what you will need is the Reese Weight Distribution Shank # RP54998. This shank will give you up to a 8-5/8" rise or 2" drop with this Equal-i-zer system.

  • Can Reese Weight Distribution Shank 54998 be Used in Place of Reese Shank 54970
Yes, you can use weight distribution shank # RP54998 in place of shank # RP54970. The hole spacing and size to mount the weight distribution head is the same on both shanks.

  • Can Reese RP54917 Weight Distribution Shank Be Used in Rise Position
The Reese/ProSeries # RP63971 weight distribution shank can be used in the drop position only, so if you're looking for a shank that would provide a rise, it wouldn't be a good choice for you. Instead, I'd recommend the Reese # RP54970, which provides a rise up to 6-1/2 inches when used with a trunnion bar system or 5-1/4 inches with a round bar. If you needed a taller rise, the # RP54998 provides a rise up to 8-5/8 when used with a trunnion bar system or 7-3/8 inches if used with a round bar.

  • Replacement Weight Distribution Shank and Trunnion Bars for Trailer with 1,700 lb Spring Bars
For a Reese shank that has a 1,600 lb tongue weight capacity that should work great you would want the part # RP54998. Since your tongue weight is around 1,500 lbs you would want to go with the 1,700 lb trunnion bars part # 66010. These have the curved ends that will work with the Straitline system you have as well.

On the Reese weight distribution shank # RP54998 the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the head mounting holes is 9-1/4-inches. This is shown on the linked photo. This shank will work with your Reese trunnion head assembly. The grooves in the shank are provided to allow mounting of certain accessories. • Is the Reese Weight Distribution Shank Only For Weight Distribution
The Reese Weight Distribution Shank - 16,000 lbs # RP54998 is typically used for a weight distribution system. It can, however, be used as a ball mount. This shank style would work with the Replacement Hitch Ball Platform for Pro Series Adjustable 3-Ball Mount - 14K # PS63075 which would make it an adjustable ball mount similar to the Pro Series Adjustable 3-Ball Mount for 2" Hitches - 4-3/4" Drop, 5-11/16" Rise - 14K # 63070.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution System for 11,000 Pound Travel Trailer
Verifying your trailer's loaded tongue weight is a great idea, but you will not be able to use the Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount with a weight distribution system. Weight distribution systems will require a specialized shank and will not attach directly to a ball mount like the Weigh Safe product. To check the loaded tongue weight of your trailer, I recommend using a scale like the etrailer # e99044. The most important factor when choosing a weight distribution system is the total tongue weight...

What you would want is the Reese shank part # RP54998 as it has it's bolt holes set up a bit higher than the shank insert for the hitch so that would cover where you need to set the height of your hitch head. I attached a picture of the shank to show you what I mean.

It sounds like you're looking for something like the Pro Series # PS63076. It's designed to be a replacement for the # 63071, but it will work with Reese or Pro Series weight distribution shanks like # RP54998 that have grooves cast into the shank's upright. For a dry tongue weight of 1,250 lbs you'd want a higher rated weight distribution system like the Reese Titan part # RP66006 which has a tongue weight range of 1,000 lbs to 1,700 lbs. This system is about as easy to install and use as any of them are, but what will really make the install easier is a powered a-frame jack.
