Best Weight Distribution with Sway Control for 2025 Brinkley Z Air 297

Updated 01/08/2026 | Published 12/11/2025

Question:

Good Morning, I have been looking at an Andersen WD hitch for some time. We have a Reese 1200 lb Dual Cam hitch now. It is heavy and at the limit of its allowed GVWR. Our Tow vehicle is a 2022 F250 diesel with an 8 bed. Our camper is a 2025 Brinkley Z Air 297. Ive have had the rig on the scales multiple times and it is just over 11,000. I see Andersens on lighter rigs all the time. How about a heavier rig like ours with the 1500 model?

Hey Jon, I have a solution for you but I would not recommend the Andersen Weight Distribution system part # AN33VR for your 2025 Brinkley Z Air 297. What we have found is that the Andersen system does a decent job with lighter weight trailers but for something as heavy as yours it's not going to be very effective at all. This is due to the mechanism being a chain that pulls horizontally instead of a spring bar that pushes up.

So what I would recommend as your best solution would be the Reese Trunnion bar replacement # RP58369 to up rate your current system as this bar has a tongue weight range of between 1,000 and 1,500 lb.

Even if you didn't have the Strait Line system already this would have been my recommendation as we have found it just works the best and has best sway control that fights to prevent sway. Only downside is you may have noticed it is a bit noisy.

Great! I assume that listing you refer to is “one” bar?

@JonF yes it is. You'd need two. I should have mentioned that.

I have a 2024 Outdoors 280KVS - weight/length looks similar - what does "not going to be very effective at all" mean?

@GregZ It just doesn't do very much. The chains pulling front to back can only distribute so much weight and the heavier the tongue weight is the lower that percent ends up being relative to it. So basically if it can distribute like 200 lbs that doesnt' make a big difference on heavier trailers as they can have more like 1,000 lb. A spring bar setup has ability to use different rated spring bars so you can always make sure it's going to be effective.

@JamesonC Thanks for the unexpected reply. You should be out enjoying the holiday :-). I hope I don't hear back from you until Monday! I just purchased the larger rig and was assured by Andersen I was good to go. I so like the light weight of the hitch - compared to a standard wdh. I guess I have a lot to think about.

@Greg haha! You are probably right I should log off till Monday! I think some people have decent results with the Andersen setup but I would say most people who have tried it and compared it to another setup with spring bars on a heavier tow setup prefer the spring bar setups. Now if you are towing with it already and it's working well or you feel comfortable with it you may as well stick with it.
