Absorbs Road Shock and Reduces Chucking

Upgrade your trailer's suspension for a smoother ride with these cushioned Equa-Flex equalizers. These units deliver a ride as smooth as you'd get with torsion axles, but at a fraction of the cost. The rubber cores effectively absorb vibrations and bumps and reduce the back-and-forth movement known as chucking. Unlike standard cast equalizers, the Equa-Flex's rubber cores soak up this energy like a sponge instead of transferring it to your trailer and cargo. The result is a more comfortable ride with less wear and tear on your trailer.

Easy Installation

Illustration of a tandem axle trailer suspension system

It's easy to upgrade your trailer's standard suspension with a set of cushioned Equa-Flex equalizers. You will need 10 standard suspension bolts and 8 shackle straps (each sold separately) to incorporate the equalizers into your trailer's suspension system. Two of the suspension bolts will be used to suspend the equalizers from the center hangers, and the other 8 bolts will be used with the shackle straps to attach the equalizers to the double-eye leaf springs. If you would like to replace the bolts that attach the springs to your front and rear hangers as well, you will need 4 additional suspension bolts (sold separately).

Video Transcript for Lippert Components Trailer Suspension - Leaf Spring Suspension - LC279687 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Equa-Flex cushioned equalizers. The leaf spring suspension upgrade kit provides a smooth ride for your tandem axle trailer. Now, one of the things that makes these different about other units that would be similar are the cushioned equalizers. Now, these are going to replace the cast equalizers that came standard on your trailer. They feature this really nice rubber core. Now, this rubber core is the component of the unit that really helps minimize and reduce chucking or back-and-forth movement, and that's going to absorb road shock, which can really help extend the overall life of your trailer's suspension system. The housing is made from a sturdy steel construction.

They feature a yellow powder-coated finish to resist rust and corrosion and last and look good for a long time. You'll notice that inside each hole is a pre-installed durable bronze bushing. The unit features a quick and simple installation. Center hangers would suspend the equalizers. Center hangers are sold separately and available at etrailer.com if needed. Then the springs would attach to the ends of the equalizers with bolts and shackle straps.

Those items are also sold separately and available at etrailer.com if needed. This kit is designed for tandem axle trailers with double-eye leaf springs. They're designed for axles that have a capacity of 3,000 pounds to 6,000 pounds. The center hole right here at the top as well as these holes off to the side, the whole diameter with the bushings installed is 9/16". From the center of this hole going straight across to the center of this hole is 5-1/2". From the center of this hole going straight to the center of this hole is 4-1/8".

If you we're to place a straight line going across these two holes on center, and then from the center of this one measured down to the top of that line, that up-and-down measurement would be around 2-1/2".That's going to do it for today's look at the Equa-Flex cushioned equalizers.

We are so happy to learn about etrailer from our friend. Our experience ordering from etrailer was so pleasant working with Crystal. She was very knowledgeable and everything that we needed to replace the springs on our trailer and recommended items that we would need to make our installation perfect! Thank you so much for being available. We will definitely recommend etrailer to our friends and family. 474749

Great product, great company to deal with. Install was a little challenging but worth it I hope. Took trailer for a test run after install, trailer rode smoother. The only thing i could add would be, if I have 2-1/4” shackle plates I don’t need the 3-1/4” plates, maybe reduce the cost a little. 492572

I purchased this product to upgrade my suspension on a brand new travel trailer that I was going to pull to Alaska. I had heard that the roads could be a bit rough and hard on trailer suspensions and did not want to break anything because of the relative inflexibility of the stock system. The product was super easy to install, but I ended up using the longer shackle brackets that were in the suspension upgrade I purchased because I could not get the stock length brackets to line up correctly with the leaf springs. This resulted in a lot more suspension travel than I was anticipating, but seemed to do no harm as a result. The trailer pulled wonderfully all the way to Alaska and back, and did not result in any major upheavals within the trailer. The extra flexibility in the suspension did make it a bit trickier to level the trailer however, requiring greater block thickness on the side that needed to be raised. But ultimately this was no big deal. Ultimately I can only imagine how the stock system would have performed, and my imagination suggests that it would have not been a pretty sight inside the trailer. 694384

They work as described............ Planned on installing "Never Fail Bushing" in place of the Bronze factory installed ones...............NOT POSSIBLE. The inside diameter of the bushing hole is undersized and not 11/16"............ Kind of disappointing. What do I do later when the Bronze bushings wear out??? Buy another set of equalizers?? 450796

Comments
Leroy,I contacted Lippert and it is possible to change out the integrated bronze bushings for never fail bushings on the sides of the equalizer. The original bushings can be switched out for 11/16 bushings.

Looks like a nice product, but I was told that bolts and bushing would be included. The bushings appear to be installed, but there are no bolts leaving me short 6 bolts, 3 per side. Now i will need to order six more bolts or find them locally to finish my project. Those of you buying this product you will need to buy the center hanger bolt and the two shackle mount bolts per side. 433040

Great product. My camper came with these when I purchased it new in 2012. I had a leaf spring break on our last trip and decided to replace the equalizers while replacing the springs. They do a great job with absorbing shock from rough roads which improves handling and track of the camper. I recommend this product and I recommend etrailer.com. Prices and selection are good and the fast, free shipping is definitely a huge plus. Attached are photos of the installation which include pics of the old ones that I replaced. 573531

I received my Equa-flex cushioned equalizers along with the Never-Fail bushing kit both by Lippert. I did take delivery as projected by etrailer and have had them installed on my 5th wheel. So far, they are performing well and have given me peace of mind as we prepare to embark on a 10 - 15K trip to the west and northwest U.S. from Florida. etrailer services and tech center were excellent. First I must say what great customer service I received when I called to order the Equa-flex for my trailer. I talked to Rose in sales and she helped me pick the right suspension enhancements for my trailer. I installed the Equa-flex 5-6k and the Dexter heavy duty shackle kit on my 30' 2016 Forrest River Wildwood. The kit and the instructions were easy to read and understand. The kit is definitely an upgrade over the stock suspension, just look as t the pictures I provided. The trailer rides smooth and handles great. I will be installing the Equa-flex kit and shackle kik it on my Dads trailer this year. Thanks Etrailer for your great products and customer service. 558671

Review from a similar Lippert Components Equa-Flex in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

After 10 years of wear and tear it was time to replace my equaflex system. As always etrailer staff was very helpful getting me the correct replacement parts and any upgrade parts I had questions about. Shipping was fast and the package came in damage free. Installation was a breeze and straight forward. I also added wet bolts to the spring hangers and shackles. A very good upgrade for most RV suspensions. Very satisfied customer and etrailer is definitely my go-to company. 576018

1 year after installing and roughly 18,000 miles everything is working great. No sign of wear. Great product. Definitely recommend this upgrade for those that have the stock equalizers.

Worthy upgrade from the stock factory Equalizers, I have a much improved ride it is smother less bounce and jerkiness. Install was straight forward remove the bolts holding the old equalizers on just make sure you have a couple of jacks and jack stands as I needed to tease the springs back into place. Use the jack stands to hold up the trailer and jacks to move the axle and spring into proper alignment with the new equalizers. The fit isn't the same as the old ones I had but more then easy to get the bolt holes to line up. Also don't be surprised the factory bushings are worn out, replaced mine with brass bushings and they can be greased. 574906

Review from a similar Lippert Components Equa-Flex in Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

I watched the video, compared to other options, and chose this item. Install was fast once lined up. Test drive was great- took my 26' travel trailer over a pretty bad road. Road effect was less, my pickup jumped around less, and my neck is thankful. This equalizer replaced a Dexter Axle 13-142. Although the measurements are not exact as the original, the fit was fine and gives me approx one extra inch of tire to fender clearance. 570428

I still think it is a good product. We did our five weeks through multiple states, still working good. I wish it had been stock when we got the trailer. Whenever I replace my trailer, Ill add this as one of the first tweaks I do to it.

To upgrade your hardware kit I recommend the Never Fail Tandem Axle Suspension Upgrade Hardware Kit for Double Eye Springs # LC281285. This kit includes the Never Fail bushings which never...

  • Can Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers Be Used On Tandem Trailer
The best way to see if the Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers, part # LC279687 will work for your trailer is to measure the equalizers you have on your trailer. Then compare the measurements to the # LC279687. I have attached a photo of the # LC279687 that has the dimensions you can check out. These are designed to work with 4000 to 6000-lb axles. You may want to also check out the upgrade kit for tandem axle trailers, part # LC281285. This kit includes bushings, shackles, bolts and nuts.

  • Recommended Trailer Shock Absorption for 3,500 lb Axles and Slide Out Mechanism Near Axles
Since the Lippert Components Bolt-On Shock Mount Kit w/Heavy Duty Oil Shocks - Fits 2-3/8" Axle Tube # LC281255 won't work due to your slide out, and the Joy Rider systems only are for either 2 inch or 3 inch axles, I have another option for you to consider. We have the E-Z Flex Heavy Duty Rubber Suspension System by Dexter Axle - 5-5/8" Equalizers # K71-652-00 or the Lippert Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers - 3K to 6K # LC279687. These cushioned equalizers have an integrated rubber...

  • When Installing EquaFlex Equalizers Do Leaf Springs Need to Sit Level
Trailer leaf springs do need to be level so you'd have to run the same hanger hole as what the EquaFlex part # LC279687 will allow you to use. If it's a clearance thing from the bolts on the bottom of the EquaFlex you could cut off the bottom of the hangers to allow you to attach the equalizer.

  • Shock Kit for Travel Trailer
We do carry shocks for trailers that could work for your 2003 Kit Road Ranger. I was unable to locate a reference to the product number you mentioned but I recommend taking a look at the Lippert Components Bolt-On Shock Kits, and the right one for you will depend on your axle. Shock Kit # LC281255 is for leaf spring suspension systems with 3,500-lb (2-3/8") axles and Shock Kit # LC281281 is for leaf spring suspension systems with 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb (3") axles. The shocks on these...

  • Which Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizer Should be Used for 6K axles
Equalizers that are different sizes can always be used but depending on how much different the equalizers are in size will tell you how many other suspension components will need to be traded out. Since the Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers # LC279687 for 3K - 6K and # LC279688 for 6K - 8K are only about 1" different size than what you currently have, either way you will just need to change out your shackle straps. These are actually not difficult to change out, as you have found. I...
