Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers and MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for 2018 Jayco J-Flight 33RBTS

Updated 08/29/2024 | Published 08/24/2024

Question:

I have A 2018 Jayco J-Flight 33RBTS. I would like to do an Equaflex suspension upgrade with new shackles and wet bolts with Bronze bushings. My trailer uses 2.25inch shackles. My tandem Lippert axles are PN 0298891 PO 1839052 - LCI52-SBSA-86-68.5-NOSP-US-L-65516-7225-18PT-CAP5145. I believe this means my axles are 5145 lbs, Can I use the 3-6K Equafles with a Moryde 2.25inch shackle kit or do I need Lipperts Equaflex AP shackle kit with the longer 3.125 shackles? Thanks

Hi Bernie; the LCI52 designates these as 5,200 lb axles but that is further specified as 5,145 lbs since they're probably custom so you are correct. You can use the Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers # LC279687 but you need to measure your current equalizers first. The most important thing when choosing an upgraded equalizer is making sure it matches or closely matches your existing equalizer.

The measurement you're looking for is the distance between the left and right bolt holes (center on center). This distance on the Equa-Flex # LC279687 is 5-1/2". If that matches what you have, or is very close, then the Equa-Flex will make a good upgrade. If it is quite a bit different you're going to want to choose something else or you'll throw off the suspension geometry. You will also want to keep the same 2-1/4" shackle strap length so the # MR46ZR would be the correct kit.

If you have a different measurement feel free to add it in the comments below and I'll help you find the best upgraded equalizer for your Jayco.

Thanks Robin. So my equalizers measure 5 3/4" center to center. The Equaflex is showing as 5 1/2". Is that considered "close enough". Also the current equalizer only measures 1 3/4" from the mounting bolt to the centerline between the two shackle mount holes. I see the equivalent Equaflex dimension is 2 1/2 inches. I see the Road Armor is actually 3 1/4" so I'm thinking this dimension may not be as critical. Any thoughts on that? Thanks

@Bernie that is close enough. The height matters less but you don't want it to get too crazy either if you can avoid it. I thought you might have 5-3/4 since that is what I have on my Jayco as seen in the attached video. I installed the Dexter E-Z Flex # K71-652-00 which is as close as it gets at 5-3/4" long and 2" tall. These have done a great job. The Dexter kit also includes the upgraded components like the MORryde kit so you don't need anything else.
