Video Transcript for Review of Lippert Components Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension - LC64FR

Today, we're going to take a look at the Lippert Components Tandem Axle Equa-Flex Attaching Parts Kit. Now this hardware kit will upgrade your tandem axle trailer suspension. Replaces the shackle assemblies, the wet bolts, and the nuts on your trailer's tandem axle suspension. And it is designed to work with 3000-lb to 8,000-lb Equa-Flex equalizers, which we do sell separately on our website. Basically the patented Equa-Flex rubberized equalizer will help absorb road shock like a sponge instead of transferring it to your RV or cargo trailer, preventing any damage that can be caused by a bumpy ride. Also the Equa-Flex will reduce four and a half movement, often referred to as chucking, to provide a nice, smooth, comfortable ride for you and your passengers. This kit will include everything laid out here on the table.

It includes four of these 3-1/8" long shackle assemblies, six of these 3-1/4" by 3/8" diameter shoulder bolt assemblies, the four shackle links and the 14 prevailing torque nuts. And you can see all the bolts are a wet bolt, which means you can see they have this inaudible 00:01:05 fitting on the end, which allow you to attach a grease gun and lubricate the suspension system. But that should do it for the review on the Lippert Components Tandem Axle Equa-Flex Attaching Parts Kit.

Overall, very disappointed in how well these hold up. The grease holes in the wet bolts constantly plug up. Our trailer is used on a daily basis and I started off with a monthly schedule to grease. They were all plugged. Had to take them apart to unplug them and it was too late, they were already wearing into the bushings. Fixed that, tried a weekly grease schedule. Same thing, repeat. Every other day now I'm greasing them. Still plugging up, not everyone, but at least half. I'm tired of taking these apart to unplug the grease holes after every trip. I'm using an electric grease gun and it will either max out the pressure and bypass, or actually crack the zerk fitting and leak grease everywhere. I have tried everything to prevent the wet bolts from plugging, but to no avail. The grease hole in the wet bolt is packing with bushing material. I have tried numerous types of grease and nothing has helped. Also, the knurling on the wet bolt where they are supposed to be pressed into the shackle plate, does not help either. This wears very quickly and starts wearing out the shackle plate. I am averaging a set (plus bushings) every 4 months. While this seems like a good idea, functionality wise, it does not work. But I guess they're better than the standard shackle bolts where the only grease they'll ever see is on initial installation. Sorry I don't have any photos as I am usually irritated with grease all over my hands taking these back apart I don't bother to grab my phone.

Great quality replacement parts

by:

Perfect fit

by:

Received the correct amount of each part. Look good. We will have our technicians install. Thank you. Now we can lubricate easily.

by:

Looks like it’ll function just fine but the bolts that come with it don’t match the description in the product info size wise, although they do fit. There are two extra bolts, don’t know what they’re for, possibly the upper equalizer mount, but too small for that.

by:

these go part-and-parcel with the equalizers. I like being able to grease the fittings on suspension parts, it just makes sense. Again, Mary at eTrailer was very helpful with my order!

by:

After the install, you can really tell how much more stable the camper is. Things don't move around as much like they use to inside the camper.

Its been over a year since I did my install. Still one of the best mods Ive done on my camper. No more worn out plastic bushings.

by:

Did not come with instructions. I had to do some research to make sure I installed correctly.
I used a paint pen to mark where tho grease exit hole was to make sure hole was on side not the top or bottom.
With only about 2000 miles on our camper I was surprised the condition of the dry bushings. I am glad I decided to change to the wet bolt system.
After install I used the paint pen again to make a line on nut and surrounding area for quick reference to see if the nut was starting to loosen.

by:

Received what I expected to receive a few days sooner than I expected. Etrailer seems a good place to find quality products for trailers etc…

by:

Replacing factory shackles (had one break already on 2016 5th wheel trailer). These are not as heavy as the MORyde ones appear to be, but will still be an improvement over the dry bolts.

Our order was shipped when we were told it would and it was complete. Everything seemed to be on good order and we are anxious to get it installed. etrailer.com was a pleasure to work with.

by:

Night and day difference in towing, smooths out the bumps and makes the ride great. Installation wasn't bad, did it myself with a helper, took 4 hours total along with replacing all the bolts with wet bolts.

by:

Perfect fit and quick shipping!

by:

Hard to get an answeron what would fit my rig.

by:

Parts arrived in good order and were what I needed. Don’t forget to order bushings.

by:

Better ride with wet bolts

by:

Worked like advertised

by:

The product was not a problem but the company that I ordered them from was the problem. Did not pay attention to what they sent and cost me time and money.

by:

Cheap bolts, stripped out before even getting to the torque specs.

by:

It's nice to have greasable bolts. They fit perfectly.

by:

Great upgrade. Feel safer rolling down the road

by:

Working as promised. Makes it easier to grease for extended life.

by:

Parts were what I needed, but would like to of seen new sleeves in kit

  • Will a 5-Leaf Spring Raise the Height on a 2014 Grand Design Reflection 303 LS.
Adding the 5-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long # e34SR will only increase the height of your 2014 Grand Design Reflection 303 LS if your springs sit on top of the axle. The leaf thickness is 3/8" with an overall height of 1-7/8" so the difference will depend on what you have now compared to this five leaf spring. When measuring shackles, like those included with the Lippert Tandem Axle Equa-Flex AP Kit - Wet Bolts - 3-1/8" Long Shackles # LC64FR, the measurement...

  • What Wet Bolt Kits Work With Road Armor Equalizers LC696740
For the Road Armor Equalizers # LC696740 you're going to install on your trailer, you don't have to install the premium MORryde Wet Bolt Kit # MR76ZR you were looking at if you don't want to spend that much, you could go with the Lippert version # LC64FR instead, but you'll also need (2) of the bronze bushing kits # K71-291-00 to replace the nylon bushings in your leaf springs. The MORryde kit is much more heavy duty, and includes these bushings already so it's a bit more expensive but...

The # LC279688 is the direct replacement for your 145545 Equa-Flex. You do not want to use the Road Armor # LC696740 as a replacement. The Road Armor dimensions are quite different and will likely throw off other suspensions components. You also won't really notice a difference in the ride. The best choice for an upgraded equalizer is always the one that matches your current dimensions. There is a slight difference between the # LC279688 and the older 145545 but it is a non-issue. Since your axles are only 3,000LB capacity I recommend the Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers # LC279687 as they are rated for 3,000-6,000lb axles. And as you said the dimensions better match your current equalizers. The Road Armor Shock Absorbing Equalizer Kit # LC696740 having the higher weight rating of 3,500-8,000lbs means that equalizers will not perform as they were designed. • How to Determine Correct Equalizer Upgrade Kit For 3,500 lb Tandem Axles on Trailer
So to get the correct equalizer upgrade kit, the most important thing is the measurements of your current equalizers. I have added a cut out below that shows the dimensions of the two different equalizer upgrade kits for 3,500 lb axles. The Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers # LC145546 that includes the 4 wet bolts has greaseable pivot points. This means you can replace the lower bolts that hold the pivot arms in place and replace them with the 4 wet bolts. This kit is rated for 5,000lb to 8,000lb trailer applications. The Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers # LC279688 does not have greaseable pivot points and is rated for 6,000lb to 8,000lb trailer applications. • Are Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers Rated For Axle Weight or Trailer Weight
That's a really good question, and the weight ratings for the Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers are per axle as opposed to the weight of the trailer; so you will want to choose the kit that meets whatever your axles are rated for: - 3,000 lbs to 6,000 lbs: Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers # LC279687 - 6,000 lbs to 8,000 lbs: Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers # LC279688 Then in order to install them, I recommend the Lippert Tandem Axle Equa-Flex AP Kit - Wet Bolts # LC64FR I have added some...

For an upgraded equalizer I recommend the - 3,000 lbs to 6,000 lbs: Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers # LC279687. I would be happy to help you find the correct wet bolt kit, but unfortunately that is not something that can be determined by the serial number of the axle. If that matches the diameter of your current bolts then you can use 14 of the # 126B2 as replacement wet bolts. You do not need to replace the equalizers unless they are in bad shape.
