Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The leaf springs provide the attachment points for your trailer's axle, suspending it from the frame of your trailer. Each spring flexes to absorb road shock as you travel, allowing the axle to move somewhat independently of the rest of your trailer. This helps to reduce wear and tear on the trailer and also ensures a smooth ride.

Double-eye leaf springs attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. One end of this spring will attach directly to the hanger with a suspension bolt. The other end will attach to shackle straps that are suspended from a hanger. These straps allow the spring to move and pivot so that it can better compensate for uneven pavement. If you have a tandem- or triple-axle trailer, the shackle straps will be attached to the equalizer that connects multiple springs.

To mount this spring, you will need hangers, shackle straps, and suspension bolts. If you are simply replacing a spring, you may still have hangers welded onto your trailer. You should, however, replace your shackle straps because they are usually the first component to wear out. You may choose to replace old suspension bolts as well. It is recommended that you replace the other leaf spring in your setup at the same time. Because springs can sag and elongate as they wear, this new spring may not exactly match the old one, and the alignment of your trailer could be affected.

If you are fabricating a trailer, you will need to purchase a hanger kit for installation. To determine the type of hanger kit that you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring that you have, as well as your axle capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications. Hangers and other suspension components can also be purchased separately if there isn't a complete kit that works for your setup.

Upgrading the springs on a harbor freight trailer and these really fit the bill with some matching shackles.

by:

Exact size, fast delivery. The only thing I had trouble with was the fact that the main shackle bolts had splines on them and could not be rotated. It would have saved me a lot of time knowing that the bolts weren’t just rusted solid in the old springs/shackles, but held by splines.

by:

They seem fine.
Packaging was very bad.
The leaf springs were thrown on the bottom of the box and paper on top.
They could have been wrapped.

by:

Other than the parts taking a month to process, once they were gathered and packaged, they were delivered within 2 days! I replaced both sides with new 3-leaf double eye springs, 4 shackle straps, 6 shackle bolts, 2 Dexter U-bolt plates, and 2 U-bolts. They were really easy to replace and I did it quickly. Looks great, gonna take her out soon.

by:

I recently had a leaf spring break on my StarCraft pop up camper.
E-trailer had the best pricing available on the replacement springs that I could find, and the kit was a no brainer as I wanted to replace both springs at the same time. The ordering was simple. The shipping was better than expected. I ordered on a Tuesday with standard shipping and received it on Thursday. They sent emails letting me know the status of my order to include a delivery conformation email. All the parts fit the trailer perfectly and I will still get one or two camping trips in be fore the snow flies here in Colorado. Thank you E-trailer and I will tell recommend you to my fellow pop up camper friends.

by:

I used these on a 2010 personal water-craft trailer that has been converted for dirt bike towing. These replaced the stock 1,000lb slipper-style springs, with a much stronger attachment and increased towing capacity. Perfect, thank you.

by:

The part is identical to my broken leaf spring. E trailer had the part in stock and it took only three days to get to my door. Very satisfied customer. Will definitely do business with E trailer in the future for any parts needed.

by:

I was able to put a brand new suspension on my ten year old utility trailer. The hardest part was getting the old suspension off. Shackle bolts would be a nice addition to the package.

by:

The springs looked good when I received them. Fit nice in the trailer once I was able to remove the old ones. Haven't tested them under full load, but the empty trailer rode nice. No comment on durability or longevity because they have just been installed

by:

I recently installed 4 of these leaf springs on my tandem axle sailboat trailer. They fit perfectly and seem to be well made.

by:

Just what I ordered

by:

Stacey was very helpful. If the website provided me a way to pay for the springs I would not have had to bother her. Website was tried three times and the website never provided a site to pay for the springs.

Replaced rusted components. New spring a nd associated material is working great. No issues at at.

Easy installation. Seems like good quality, but only time and hauling heavy stuff will tell. The leafs they're replacing are on a 21 year old trailer. The old leafs do feel a little heavier than the new ones. Hopefully that doesn't mean the new ones won't be as strong. And yes, the trailer is upside down in the photos. Maybe that's why installation was easy.

by:

Was not able to use on my trailer set up. Tried returning but was over the return dates.

by:

Springs are of good quality but will compress and stay compressed when overloaded. I may have needed to get heavier duty springs.

Comments
If your springs are so compressed, it sounds like your trailer could be overloaded. These springs are only rated for 1,000 lbs each spring, for a 2,000 lb trailer axel. You first would have to get under your trailer and see if the axel has a rating on it. If 2,000 lb is the capacity, unfortunately, you cannot put heavier duty springs on it. We do not have any other springs that are the length you need. Here is a helpful article regarding trailer suspension:

It fits fine. There was no problem mou nting.

by:

Fit on my old teardrop trailer built on a Harbor Freight flat trailer base perfectly!

by:

I purchased these springs for my cycle kart. They worked perfectly! I will definitely order another set for my next one.
Thanks etrailer!!

by:

The springs worked out great for my project, it's not your normal everyday project so I will try and get you a picture of where it was used, the application is on a trike motorcycle that I am custom building in my spare time, I was very pleased with the way they turned out. I was very pleased with the shipping time also. If you would like to know more about the project and the use of your product please feel free to ask.

by:

I bought 3 sets for my tri-axle trailer cheapest sets I could find really happy wirth product

by:

great product, great fit, superb shipping! ordered on a Tuesday afternoon and arrived Thursday afternoon with 3-5 day shipping. Used it to fix up an old trailer and was an exact fit.

by:

Fit was good. Springs are working as e xpected

I purchased a spring kit to rebuild a used trailer with signs of wear. The spings were a perfect replacement for originals, I also bought replacement bolts for the spring eyes & shackles sizing, grading was dead on the money. Also my shipping was upgraded at no additional cost to me which allowed for reassembly that weekend. My only disappointment was torque spec's were not included, so i sent an email & within minutes the support team had responded with details! Overall great experience thanks

Comments
Very pleased with my purchase. Installation was a breeze. Ive used my trailer several times for the following: cubic yards of topsoil, mulch, pavers, dirtbikes and a Harley Davidson. No signs of settling or sagging springs.

The 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # SP-169275 that you referenced is sold individually. So if you needed 2 springs for one axle you would need to order a quantity of 2. I attached a review video for this product for you to check out also.

  • How to Determine the Axle Capacity for a 16 Foot Aluminum 1965 Dilly Boat Trailer
You can usually find the axle capacity on the tongue of the trailer where the VIN number is located. If that tag is missing, there is usually a tag on the axle that lists the capacity. If neither of these sources is available, there are guidelines that you can follow to try to determine the axle capacity. Typically axle diameters are based on the capacity that the axle is designed to carry. The following guidelines can be used in conjunction with weighing your setup, fully loaded and ready...

  • Are 3-Leaf or 4-Leaf Trailer Suspension Springs Better If they Have the Same Weight Capacity
If the 4-leaf springs and the 3-leaf springs you are looking at have the same weight capacity and dimensions, then there is really no advantage in choosing the 4-leaf spring over the 3-leaf spring. It is recommended that you replace your leaf springs in pairs so you are using the same springs on each axle. As long as you remain under the weight capacity of the leaf springs, the 3-leaf spring will be no more likely to break than the 4-leaf springs unless there was a manufacturing defect...

There is no rule of thumb concerning life expectancy of trailer leaf springs such as the Redline double-eye spring # SP-169275 that you referenced. • Leaf Spring Recommendation for a 6 x 8 Trailer
The closest leaf spring we offer to what you described would be the Leaf Spring part # SP-169275. This is a double eye spring that is 20-3/8 inches in length and is designed for 2,000 lb trailer axles. The amount of springs isn't as important as the capacity of the springs. These should work well on your trailer and I would recommend you replace the springs on both sides of the trailer.

The first thing you'll want to do is determine the capacity of your axle. This can usually be figured out by the getting as much of the following information as possible: Wheel bolt pattern (# of lugs and bolt circle diameter, see help article) Inner and outer wheel bearing reference numbers Axle tube diameter With at least two of the above, we can make a pretty good guesstimate about the axle capacity. • Leaf Spring Replacement Recommendation to Replace Boat Trailer Leaf Spring that Measures 21-1/2 in
The Leaf Spring part # SP-169275 would be a leaf spring that would work for you as long as the spring you are replacing is 1-3/4 inches wide and your trailer doesn't need a spring with a higher capacity than 2,000 lbs. This spring is 20-3/8 inches in length. Over time springs will flatten out and lengthen so a leaf spring that measures 21-1/2 inches while still on a trailer would be a good candidate for the # SP-169275 as a replacement.

For your setup the best option you would have would be to move the spring hangers you currently have. But since the two closest sizes to what you would need are 20-1/4 and 23-1/4 inches there really isn't a size that would work. If you do not have the boat on the tandem axle trailer, what you have mentioned is how the trailer suspension will look without a load on it. The equalizer will be up in the rear and the rear spring will be tilting the axle forward. The reason is because the rear tires on your boat trailer are made to scrub when turning and with the suspension set up this way it keeps the majority of the load on the trailer from being put on the rear tires.
