Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The leaf springs provide the attachment points for your trailer's axle, suspending it from the frame of your trailer. Each spring flexes to absorb road shock as you travel, allowing the axle to move somewhat independently of the rest of your trailer. This helps to reduce wear and tear on the trailer and also ensures a smooth ride.

Double-eye leaf springs attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. One end of this spring will attach directly to the hanger with a suspension bolt. The other end will attach to shackle straps that are suspended from a hanger. These straps allow the spring to move and pivot so that it can better compensate for uneven pavement. If you have a tandem- or triple-axle trailer, the shackle straps will be attached to the equalizer that connects multiple springs.

To mount this spring, you will need hangers, shackle straps, and suspension bolts. If you are simply replacing a spring, you may still have hangers welded onto your trailer. You should, however, replace your shackle straps because they are usually the first component to wear out. You may choose to replace old suspension bolts as well. It is recommended that you replace the other leaf spring in your setup at the same time. Because springs can sag and elongate as they wear, this new spring may not exactly match the old one, and the alignment of your trailer could be affected.

If you are fabricating a trailer, you will need to purchase a hanger kit for installation. To determine the type of hanger kit that you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring that you have, as well as your axle capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications. Hangers and other suspension components can also be purchased separately if there isn't a complete kit that works for your setup.

I used these on a 2010 personal water-craft trailer that has been converted for dirt bike towing. These replaced the stock 1,000lb slipper-style springs, with a much stronger attachment and increased towing capacity. Perfect, thank you.

Springs are of good quality but will compress and stay compressed when overloaded. I may have needed to get heavier duty springs.

Comments
If your springs are so compressed, it sounds like your trailer could be overloaded. These springs are only rated for 1,000 lbs each spring, for a 2,000 lb trailer axel. You first would have to get under your trailer and see if the axel has a rating on it. If 2,000 lb is the capacity, unfortunately, you cannot put heavier duty springs on it. We do not have any other springs that are the length you need. Here is a helpful article regarding trailer suspension:

Other than the parts taking a month to process, once they were gathered and packaged, they were delivered within 2 days! I replaced both sides with new 3-leaf double eye springs, 4 shackle straps, 6 shackle bolts, 2 Dexter U-bolt plates, and 2 U-bolts. They were really easy to replace and I did it quickly. Looks great, gonna take her out soon.

Easy installation. Seems like good quality, but only time and hauling heavy stuff will tell. The leafs they're replacing are on a 21 year old trailer. The old leafs do feel a little heavier than the new ones. Hopefully that doesn't mean the new ones won't be as strong. And yes, the trailer is upside down in the photos. Maybe that's why installation was easy.

I recently had a leaf spring break on my StarCraft pop up camper. E-trailer had the best pricing available on the replacement springs that I could find, and the kit was a no brainer as I wanted to replace both springs at the same time. The ordering was simple. The shipping was better than expected. I ordered on a Tuesday with standard shipping and received it on Thursday. They sent emails letting me know the status of my order to include a delivery conformation email. All the parts fit the trailer perfectly and I will still get one or two camping trips in be fore the snow flies here in Colorado. Thank you E-trailer and I will tell recommend you to my fellow pop up camper friends.

The springs worked out great for my project, it's not your normal everyday project so I will try and get you a picture of where it was used, the application is on a trike motorcycle that I am custom building in my spare time, I was very pleased with the way they turned out. I was very pleased with the shipping time also. If you would like to know more about the project and the use of your product please feel free to ask.

I needed to replace neighbors spring which was two leaf and overloaded and sprung, so I could borrow it to pickup SOD weighing 1160 pounds. I paid additional to have UPS expedited delivery. The order came a day earlier than expected. The 3 leaf Springs arrived ready to be installed and measured 1/2 inch more lift than original. The shackle straps were as ordered1 1/8 inch longer than original and appeared to have been quickly made, (machine oil still present) but were unpainted mild steel. Priming and painting took additional day but these go on last.

  • How To Find the Correct Replacement Leaf Springs for a Trailer
In order to choose the correct replacement leaf springs for a trailer you'll need to know the axle capacity (check axle tag), unloaded length, and type (slipper/double eye). Please note, since leaf springs lengthen over time the new replacements will likely be shorter. It looks like you have double eye springs but we would still need to know the axle capacity and unloaded length. I have attached our selection below, if you can get me the above info I would be glad to advise.

Using the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System with Hubs part # A12RS440 and the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" White Wheel part # AM3H410 will give you exactly what you need without the need to have a custom axle built. It sounds like the entire trailer is 24" wide by 59" long which is quite narrow and would require a custom axle be built. The spring has three leaves, but keep in mind that the number of leaves a spring has doesn't necessarily denote its weight capacity. The # SP-169275 spring measures 20-3/8, eye to eye.
