What Would Cause Trailer Suspension Equalizer to Sit Unlevel

Updated 06/17/2025 | Published 09/26/2023

Question:

I have a fifth wheel trailer with 4,000 lb rated axles, the old springs were flat so I recently purchased new 4,000 lb rated springs from e-trailer. After installing them full sets of leaf springs are tilted towards the rear of the trailer about 5°. The equalizer are not level. I didnt know if this was how it was supposed to be set up. Any help would be appreciated

It sounds like you installed leaf springs that weren't the correct length for your setup. Looking at your equalizer it looks like your springs are too long. The simplest solution would be to have your front and rear suspension hangers removed and reinstalled further out and that would get rid of the issue. Sometimes a shorter length equalizer can help but for you I don't think there's a way to get a shorter one in there.

@Jeremy Did you change anything else when you changed the axle? If not, then it most likely will sort itself out.
