Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The leaf springs provide the attachment points for your trailer's axle, suspending it from the frame of your trailer. Each spring flexes to absorb road shock as you travel, allowing the axle to move somewhat independently of the rest of your trailer. This helps to reduce wear and tear on the trailer and also ensures a smooth ride.

Double-eye leaf springs attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. One end of this spring will attach directly to the hanger with a suspension bolt. The other end will attach to shackle straps that are suspended from a hanger. These straps allow the spring to move and pivot so that it can better compensate for uneven pavement. If you have a tandem- or triple-axle trailer, the shackle straps will be attached to the equalizer that connects multiple springs.

To mount this spring, you will need hangers, shackle straps, and suspension bolts. If you are simply replacing a spring, you may still have hangers welded onto your trailer. You should, however, replace your shackle straps because they are usually the first component to wear out. You may choose to replace old suspension bolts as well. It is recommended that you replace the other leaf spring in your setup at the same time. Because springs can sag and elongate as they wear, this new spring may not exactly match the old one, and the alignment of your trailer could be affected.

If you are fabricating a trailer, you will need to purchase a hanger kit for installation. To determine the type of hanger kit that you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring that you have, as well as your axle capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications. Hangers and other suspension components can also be purchased separately if there isn't a complete kit that works for your setup.

Alex was very helpful in answering my questions and providing the correct parts for my repairs. He even provided some videos to make the installation easier. The parts were delivered on schedule and undamaged. The whole process was as stress free as could be expected with my limited experience and mechanical skills. Thanks, Alex and the rest of the crew at etrailer.

  • Replacement Leaf Spring Recommendation to Replace 20-3/8 inch Spring on 2,630 lb Axle
What you need is part # e59SR. This is a 3,500 lb spring and is a tiny bit shorter at 23-1/8 inch which will work great for you since springs stretch when they are old.

  • How to Pick Out Replacement Leaf Springs for Older Komfort Fifth Wheel
In order to pick out the correct springs we need a couple pieces of information. The length of the spring without a load on it and the axle capacity needed. Your springs being totally flat does indicate that you need to replace them but I would need to know the unloaded length from spring eye to spring eye and then the axle capacity. Jack the trailer up so that the spring no longer has a load on it and measure it. Subtract around 3/4 of an inch since springs flatten and stretch out over...

  • What is Recommended Clearance between Trailer Axle and Frame
The recommended clearance with leaf spring suspension on an unloaded trailer is between 2 - 2-1/2 inches. You should have sufficient clearance with your loaded trailer, as leaf springs only tend to deflect 1-1/2 inch when carrying a load.

  • Replacement 23-1/4 Inch Leaf Springs for 1984 Prowler Trailer
If your 1984 Prowler Trailer has 3,500 pound axles, I recommend sticking with a 3-Leaf spring like the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e59SR to replace your 23-1/4 inch springs. This leaf spring measures 23-1/8 inches from eye to eye, which will give you a much better fit to replace the existing springs on your trailer. A leaf spring of closer to 25 inches might be too long for the current hanger setup on your trailer. Older leaf springs will elongate a bit over time, meaning your existing...

  • Replacement Leaf Spring for 2006 Fleetwood Prowler Model 260B

  • How to Get Correct Length Measurement of Trailer Leaf Springs
I'm assuming that you're wondering how much the leaf springs flatten out over time. Usually it won't vary by more than 1/2 inch or so, but there's a sure way to get an accurate measurement. The best way to get an accurate length measurement for a leaf spring is to jack the trailer up so that the axle is hanging free. You can then get a center eye to center eye distance that'll be right on the money. By letting the axle hang, you'll be able to get a correct measurement.

  • Will the 23-1/8" 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles Replace a 4-Leaf Spring
The number of leaves won't matter when going from a 3-Pack to 4-Pack or when going from a 4-Pack to a 3-Pack, so long as the weight capacity is correct there won't be an issue. The leaf thickness can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer which is why you see some springs with the same rating but different number of leaves. The 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles part # e59SR only has three leaves but still holds a 3,500 lb rating so as long as this matches the axle capacity...

  • How to Measure to Select Correct Replacement Leaf Springs for Utility Trailer
The best way to measure your springs is to remove one from the suspension so it is no longer under tension. This way you can accurately measure its eye-to-eye length. If your hangers are 25-1/4-inches apart chances are that your spring would be 23-1/8-inches, such as # e59SR which is indeed rated for 3500-lb axles. Keep in mind that swapping out trailer leaf springs or the axle may not actually increase the capacity of your trailer. This would be the case only if you knew for certain that...

  • Replacement Double Eye Leaf Spring For a Trailer with 21-3/4" Eye To Eye Measurement
I see you were looking at the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e84SR for 2,000lb trailer axles. This spring has an eye to eye measurement of 20-3/8" when fully relaxed and will extend all the way to 22" when the spring flattens out due to weight. If you are measuring worn out springs that are nearly flat this may be the correct spring for your trailer. Our next largest spring is currently the 23-1/8" Spring # e59SR which is rated for a 3,500lb trailer axle.

  • How to Determine 7,000 lb Leaf Springs For Trailer
Nope, we have no way of knowing what leaf springs are on any trailer, but I can help you determine the right replacement springs. It's pretty easy, as all you need to do is measure your current leaf springs from center-to-center of the spring eyes. Leaf springs also flatten a bit over time, so you should go with ones that measure a bit shorter than what you currently have. • Troubleshooting Reduced Fender Clearance After Replacing Leaf Springs
It's certainly possible that you have two identically rated and sized leaf spring sets on your trailer that feature a different amount of leaves. Most likely at one point only one side of the trailer leaf springs was replaced, while the other remained installed. We do recommend replacing both sides of the leaf spring sets on an axle at the same time. As long as you get the needed capacity and length, there is not really an advantage with going to a set that features more leaves. The additional...

Old, worn springs tend to stretch. If you remove one of your leaf springs and measure its eye-to-eye dimension it is entirely possible that it will now measure longer than it was when installed. The 2,500 lb axle springs we have are longer like the # e66SR which is 25-1/8 inches long and would require moving you hangers. You'll want to replace the springs as a pair for the axle. Since the springs would be different rating you'll want to replace all of them so they all match.
