  • Smooth, controlled stops: Proportional braking matches your trailer’s braking to your vehicle.
  • Clean, clutter-free cab: Under-dash mount keeps the unit hidden and out of the way.
  • Quick, no-splice setup: Plug-and-play harness and adhesive mount install easily in minutes.

  • Tow up to 4 axles: Handles electric trailer brakes with consistent power.

Features to know about

Keeps the Cab Clean and Comfortable: Mounts Out of Sight Under the Dash

Bulky brake boxes can clutter your dash or knock against your knees. The Curt Echo Under-Dash Bluetooth Brake Controller hides the main unit behind trim, just 3-3/8" long x 3" wide x 7/8" thick. Once it’s tucked away, you control everything through your smartphone. It keeps the cab looking factory-clean and leaves plenty of space for your legs—nothing to bump into, nothing in view.

Simplifies Setup and Swaps: Plug-and-Play with Custom Harness

Wiring doesn’t have to be complicated. The included custom harness plugs right into the vehicle’s existing brake control port with no splicing required. Mount the box with the supplied adhesive pad or zip ties, pair it with your phone, and you’re ready to go in seconds. The 3-axis accelerometer automatically calibrates at any mounting angle, so installation is flexible and smooth braking starts right away.

Puts Full Brake Control in Your Hand: Bluetooth and OneControl App

Instead of reaching for a dash controller, you manage everything from your phone using the OneControl app. Adjust max brake output, change sensitivity, apply the manual override, or check power levels right on screen. The app is simple to use, stays connected through Bluetooth, and keeps working even if your data connection drops. You can store multiple trailer profiles too—perfect when you tow more than one rig and want consistent settings every time.

Smooths Every Stop: Proportional Braking up to 4 Axles

No jerky starts or sudden jolts—the Echo’s proportional braking matches trailer pressure to how hard you brake. An internal 3-axis accelerometer senses deceleration and applies the same level of braking across your setup. It works with trailers that have 1 to 4 axles (8 brake assemblies) and supports electric trailer brakes. The result is even braking that feels natural and keeps stress off both tow vehicle and trailer brakes.

Adds Safety and Reliability: Built-In Protection and Diagnostic LEDs

This controller looks simple but packs smart safeguards inside. Reverse polarity and short-circuit protection help prevent wiring damage or misfires, while diagnostic LEDs show system status in real time so you know it’s working correctly before hitting the road. If Bluetooth connection drops mid-tow, it keeps running on your last saved settings, so braking stays steady no matter what happens with your phone connection.

Specs

Application

  • Application: trailers with 1 to 4 axles (8 brake assemblies)
  • Compatible with: electric trailer brakes

Dimensions

  • Main unit dimensions: 3-3/8" long x 3" wide x 7/8" thick

Smart Device Requirements

  • Apple OS: 5.0 and newer
  • Android OS: 4.3 and newer

Screenshot of the Curt Echo OneControl app interface showing numbered controls for manual override, brake output indicator, max output, sensitivity level, and vehicle hazard light settings.

  • 1. Manual Override: This big orange button in the middle of the app is your manual override. Press and hold the button, and the brake controller will smoothly apply the trailer brakes without applying your vehicle's brakes. This is perfect for stopping sway or controlling your trailer's momentum in an emergency.
  • 2. Brake Output Indicator: The outer ring gives you a visual indicator of how much power is being applied to the trailer brakes. This is determined by your max output setting.
  • 3. Max Output: Braking output is the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes. How much braking output you need is determined by the weight of your trailer; a heavier trailer will need more power to bring it to a stop.
  • 4. Sensitivity Level: This controls the aggressiveness of your trailer's braking, meaning how quickly the brakes reach the max output level.
  • 5. Vehicle Hazard Lights: If you turn on your vehicle's hazard lights, there’s a chance the trailer brakes will pulse on and off as the lights flash. Turn this setting on any time you activate your hazard lights to prevent this problem.

Warranty

  • Brake controller: Limited lifetime
  • Wiring harness: Limited 1-year

Note

  • If Bluetooth connection is lost: The brake controller will continue to function safely, using the most recently programmed settings. This brake controller is not compatible, but will not interfere, with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
  • If you don't already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle: Take a look at our exclusive 7- and 4-way brake controller installation kit (ETBC7 - sold separately).

What is Proportional Braking?

Proportional braking means that your trailer brakes mimic your tow vehicle's brakes. If you slam on the brakes in your vehicle, your trailer brakes will activate with the same intensity; if you brake lightly, your trailer brakes lightly too. The trailer's braking is in proportion to your vehicle's braking. This saves wear and tear on the tires and the brakes on both your vehicle and trailer.

This makes for a very installation. Instructions were very good. Brake controller installed and ready to use in 10 mins.

by: Jamie D.08/02/2015

This product is high quality and easy to use and install. Especially for the price. The shipping was extremely fast and the ability to track packet was even better. I would highly recommend using this company and buying this product.

by: tom b09/11/2016

Piece of cake installation. Installed in 10 minutes. Your company should install a shroud over the wires coming from the brake controller to the adapter to hide the single wires.

by: David04/17/2024

The Curt Echo is now on my Nissan Armada and works perfectly. It was an easy hookup with the supplied harness and does its job.

by: Jason M02/08/2017

Great product, only thing I wasn't sure about was if the gain flashed while a trailer was not hooked up. I emailed etrailer and in a timely manner for a response.

by: lj08/11/2015

I have 2015 ram 1500. Installation was simple. Might have taken 20 minutes. Setup and adjustment was simple just be sure and read directions. Much smoother braking than old controller.

by: Cliff H08/25/2016

Cable was perfect, dealer wanted 5 times the price, has worked flawlessly since I purchased it. etrailer.com was great with information I needed, and shipped item immediately, great job George, thanks again, will definitely only buy from etrailer.com in future.

by: Scott03/23/2017

Thanks Susan for helping me out. You found the correct part and install was a breeze. It took about ten minutes to hook up controller and connect harness. Thanks for working with me on the return issue. Looking forward to trying with my toy hauler.

by: Michael06/26/2025

Don’t even know it’s there, set it and forget it.

by: John08/23/2022

This is the old obsolete model of Curt Echo which has to be installed under the dashboard. The newer version, which attaches to the electrical system in the rear of the vehicle, is superior and now preferred by most trailer owners. The above version should be taken off the catalog.

by: JimB 08/26/2024

This is my first proportional brake controller. Stopping is much smoother without sacrificing safety. Communication by bluetooth makes for a clean installation.

by: Steve H.02/25/2022

This controller took me literally 15 minutes to install with the required pigtail and my Rubicon with factory towing package installed. When I initially downloaded the app and connected, it actuated and locked the brakes. I simple deleted the app and reinstalled and everything worked normal.

by: Chris10/03/2022

Was not aware this device draws on the battery constantly. I don't daily drive my truck and have had to replace the battery twice in one month due to being drained below the point where they could be recharged. $[XX] later and this controller removed, I've not had any problems with the battery

by: Dustin09/18/2013

I purchased this product with a Curt time delay brake controller. My 2010 Dodge Ram has the 7 way plug and towing package on it already which made the installation of the product super easy. I looked under the dash by the parking brake and there was the plug. I plugged it in and plugged in the controller, mounted it and I was done! Installation took me less than 12 minutes and that included me checking the plug with a multi meter to ensure the power was getting thru. The best part is I can remove the controller when I am not towing my RV so that I keep my stock appearance. If you can use this part on your truck pay the little extra and get it. The shipping was super fast and easy! One of the best experiences buying online!

by: Scott09/18/2022

This brake controller has to be unplugged when not in use or it drains the battery in a few days. I had to have a electrical test done in my vehicle ($XXX). The etrailer tech said the test was done incorrectly. The Chevy dealer claims it was accurate. I’m left with a problem.

by: Earl 08/21/2023

Needed a brake controller I could rely on because I was pulling my camper to a site at the top of a 25% grade within a few days. Unit plugged right into the harness for the factory brake controller (with the adapter cable) on my 2014 Ford F-150,and worked perfectly. Bluetooth connectivity works through the app (rather than through the phone's "settings" icon),and connects instantly. I'm very pleased with this product.

by: John07/12/2018

You wouldn't think an adapter cable to mate a CURT brake controller to a 2010 RAM, factory installed trailer brake cable would be difficult. But another online retailer and 2 (TWO!) local RV dealers sold me the wrong one..each the same; but wrong!

Only etrailer got it right and at a fraction of the cost of the "others"! Works fine.

by: Patrick03/28/2022

As first time truck and pop-up trailer users, we initially purchased a cheaper brake controller that required drilling the dash. This is a new truck, so we decided to switch and spend more for the Bluetooth. etrailer was easy to work with for a return, and the Bluetooth brake controller is fantastic - so easy to use with our new trailer!

by: Chris 08/20/2022

I really wanted a trailer brake controller that I didn’t have to stick an ugly knob/box hanging off my dash. This was my solution and it works perfectly. Plugged right into my Honda Ridgeline existing plug, and easily connected to the app on my phone. Nice setup.

by: Paul08/29/2022

I was looking for a trailer brake controller that did not require a permanent mounting to the dash or center console of my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. I initially considered the wireless bluetooth controller from Curt Echo that plugs directly into the 7-pin outlet next to the tow hitch. However, reviews from individuals that tow RV trailers identified that particular option prevents the 12v battery on the trailer from charging off of the TV while connected. This would limit the RV utilization during long trips involving boondocking.
The Curt Echo under-dash controller seems to solve that problem and uses the same user interface as the Curt Echo.
Easy to install and operate; problem solved!

by: Michael 04/05/2023

Easiest install ever !
Plug and play.
App is easy understand and use.
My favorite is with the app and on selected active profile you can see the amount of brake amount is being applied to the trailer when the vehicle brakes are applied. I also install the manual override button. FYI: you don’t need the app on your phone open for the controller or the manual override button to work. Also another nice feature of the manual override button is the size about the size of a quarter, uses a CR2032 battery and the battery level is displayed in the app.

by: Bruce09/23/2021

Ordered a Curt brake controller for my Toyota Tundra with the matching dual plug in. It installed easily, and worked perfectly. I later sold the Toyota and bought a 2010 Ram pickup. I transferred the Curt brake controller to my Ram pickup by ordering the matching dual plug in cord. It also installed easily, and works perfectly. Very pleased with everything. Excellent and prompt service, and helpful videos to help make installation effortless.

by: James 12/19/2023

This was relatively easy to install under the dash of our 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, especially since ours has the factory Trailer Tow Package and therefore an existing pigtail connector ready to connect to the brake controller. The Curt wiring adapter made it super easy to connect the Brake Controller to the vehicle's wiring harness. The controller was easy to calibrate and worked seamlessly while we're towing a rented trailer. We used a dedicated (older) cell phone to operate it while we're towing to avoid any potential interference from other apps rather than using our regular phone on which we receive phone calls texts, etc. This was our first time towing a trailer and this easy-to-use Brake Controller helped make us feel safe and comfortable. Highly recommended.

by: Alan03/12/2024

Do not buy either the Curt Under-Dash or plug-in Wireless brake controllers until Lippert fixes the phone app. I’ve used both happily with the old ECHO Smart Control app. I could use the remote manual button with the phone app not even running. As one would reasonably expect the button talked to the controller directly via Bluetooth. The new OneControl Auto app must be running and in the foreground to use the manual remote! And the most recent version of ECHO Smart Control is non-functional, it just tells you to install OneControl Auto.

by: Matthew 11/25/2023

The break controller worked seamlessly. Profiles are easy to set up and it has very reliable Bluetooth connectivity with my phone. Installation was really easy on my Honda Pilot!

  • Wiring Brake Controller to Under Dash Wiring of 2021 Ford Ranger
We had the chance to install a brake controller in a similar Ranger as your 2021 model and when using standard brake controller wiring like with the # C51515 to install the Curt Echo Mobile # C27JR the yellow/orange goes to the black wire, the blue wire is going to go to the blue wire, the white wire is going to go to the white wire, and the violet with white stripe goes to the red wire.

This kit contains everything you need to upgrade the 4-flat to a 7-way, including all of the necessary wires for a brake controller. • Recommended Replacement Brake Controller for 2010 Dodge Ram with Factory Brake Controller
