Question:
I am looking to purchase at tow bar and base plate to tow my 2002 Jeep Wrangler behind a class A RV. I see that the BX 1120 is best suited for my base plate but could use some advise on the tow bar. The jeep weighs about 4000 lbs. and will be towed in mountainous regions at times. Should I go with something more heavy duty than the Acclaim? If so, what do you recommend for my needs? Thank you.

Hello John, thanks for reaching out. The Blue Ox Base Plate # BX1120 is correct for your 2002 Wrangler.
As far as the tow bar, I really do not recommend using the acclaim. It is a decent budget option, but you do get what you pay for, and I typically would never recommend a coupler-style tow bar. A tow bar that inserts directly into the 2" hitch on your RV will be the better option. That said, I recommend the following:
- etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Blue Ox and Curt Base Plates - RV Mount - 2" Hitch - 6K lbs # e47ZR
Our etrailer brand tow bars are made by Demco, and I recommend them all the time. They work/handle great, they are easy to operate and they are super durable. Definitely a good option if you will be towing frequently or over mountainous uneven terrain. It comes with safety cables and it has 2" of rise or drop built into the shank which helps with leveling. Overall I believe this will be a much more durable and usable option compared to the Acclaim. The price isn't bad either.
Are you needing the rest of the parts for your flat tow setup? If so, here is what I recommend:
- Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - 7-Way to 6-Way Coiled Adapter Cord # RM-15267
- Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25
- Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Flat Tow Brake System for RVs w/ Hydraulic Brakes - Proportional # SM99251
- Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-88400
Have you flat towed before? Or is this your first time? Feel free to reach out with any questions. I am here to help.

Jesse, Thank you for your reply. I ended up calling in yesterday and spoke to Elijah, he was very helpful as well. We realized that this Jeep has "D" rings in the bumper, which took us in a different direction. I ended up buying the RM-05 adapters, the RM-576 tow bar and the Blue Ox Patriot braking system as well as all needed wiring, etc..
