Bearing Buddy Installed Diagram

Bearing Buddy Operation

This threaded Bearing Buddy lets you convert an oil-bath hub to grease lubrication while giving you an easy way to monitor and maintain the grease level in your axle hub. Bearing Buddy recommends using grease-proof gasket cement during installation. To add grease, use a grease gun through the zerk fitting. Adding grease moves the spring-loaded piston outward 1/8".

The O-ring inside the barrel of the Bearing Buddy maintains a seal from the outside. The Bearing Buddy maintains slight pressure inside the hub, helping prevent water from entering and contaminating the grease. An automatic pressure-relief feature is built into the Bearing Buddy. When the device is full, grease will seep around the edges of the piston and into the barrel. This helps prevent overfilling that can damage the inner seal.

You can manually check the grease level in your Bearing Buddy by pressing on the edge of the piston. If you can rock or move the piston, the hub is properly filled.

Still never fit. Do I ground off the threads. Enough for it to fit. This is a strange axel. I took the brakes down to a trailer company and they never seen brakes like this before I got them to work and the bearing size never had any in stock so I used the old ones good enough to go snowmobiling this winter. Hope there’s snow not to far.

Great Product and was the perfect fit for my trailer. Fast shipping and great service!

Very fast shipping, great product, extremely great quality, very well made. Thanks guys & gals.

These also replace turbo lube 48399 covers, I put them on my 2009 z520 ranger, took all of 15 minutes to change out, perfect fit, easy installation , feel much better having these vs oil bath, highly recommend. Great buy, very happy!!

Bought these threaded bearing buddies as a replacement for my oil bath Tie Down Turbo Lube hubs. Perfect fit! Thanks Etrailer!
by:
These caps worked as a direct thread in cap to swap my Oil Bath bearing system to a greased bearings on my Tennessee boat trailer. I have had them installed for over a Year now and would recommend them to anyone needing to upgrade their trailer to something more reliable. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that they didn't thread into my hub as far as I thought they should but they haven't moved or backed out since installation.
by:
Stainless steel and fit perfect. Helped resolve the issue of oil bath bearing to grease.
by:
Everything installed easily. I have had the trailer in and out of both fresh water and salt water a number of times now and everything is working perfectly. After every tow I always check the hubs and they are cool and not heating up. eTrailer was very helpful with finding the correct product.
by:
These bearing buddy's are the perfect replacement for my turbo lube dust caps which they no longer make. I swapped from an oil bath to a grease lube system on my boat trailer and couldn't be happier. Thanks for your great service!
by:
If you own a trailer, this a must have! Don't ever risk repairing burnt out bearings along side the road with traffic whizzing by at 70mph, It only happened to me once!
by:
Bearing buddy is still on the trailer and the wheel is still turning.
by:
They work as advertised. Keeps the grease up in the bearing and hubs.
by:
You are the go to place. Reasonable pricing quick shipping, and a huge inventory. All I can ask for in this day and time.

Have a blessed day,

JR Rich

ONLY PLACE THAT HAD THEM IN STOCK, GREAT DESCRIPTION ON HOW THEY REPLACED THE RANGER COOL HUB CAPS WITH SIZE DEMINSIONS

Great customer service
by:
Did not fit threads on hubs. The threads on the hub were cast and poorly at that. So I never could get them to fit. Other than that I think they would have worked great.

Not so well, because of the bearing buddy the hub was over packed with grease the seal blew, the bearings froze and the wheel sheared off the cotter pin and cam off while towing. Now I have to replace the entire axle due to the damage.$1900. I am removing the bearing buddies and looking for a better solution.

@PeterJ We recommend using a double lip seal with bearing buddies, which will prevent the seal from blowing out.

  • How to Choose Correct Bearing Buddy for Vortex Threaded Hub
We do have Bearing Buddys with threads on them, but you'll need to verify fitment on your end: Stainless Steel - # BB1980T-SS fits a 1.980" hub bore Stainless Steel - # BB2080T-SS fits a 2.080" hub bore Stainless Steel - # BB2441T-SS fits a 2.441" hub bore If you can verify that the threads on your hubs match one of these then you're good to go! • Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors Needed for a 1965 Shasta Trailer
The Bearing Buddies, # BB2047, are pressed into the hub for a tight fit. To determine the correct part for your trailer hub you will need to measure the diameter of the grease cap mating surface in the hub and match that as closely as possible to the measurements provided on the bearing buddy product pages, see link. If your grease caps are threaded, the Bearing Buddies, # BB1980T-SS, # BB2441T-SS or # BB2080T-SS, may be the correct size for your hubs, measuring to determine the correct...

  • Is There A Bearing Buddy That Will Replace A Tie Down Engineering 48399GA Turbo Lube Cap?
From what I could find, the Tie Down Engineering 48399GA Turbo Lube cap you have will measure 2.33" at the threads. This is a pretty odd size and, unfortunately, there is not a Bearing Buddy kit currently available to fit this. The closest we have to this size will be the Bearing Buddy # BB2441T-SS (2.441" hub bore) or Bearing Buddy # BB2328 (2.328" hub bore), which is not threaded. The only way we can get a Bearing Buddy for you would be to replace the hubs with something that has a more...

  • How to Convert Oil Bath Trailer Hubs to Grease Hubs
Actually all you really have to do is remove the oil from the hub and then pack the hubs with grease and then get the correct bearing buddy to match the threaded hub bore. You will need to measure the inner diameter of where the old grease cap installed on your hub to pick out the correct bearing buddy. If that measurement is 1.98 then you would wan the # BB1980T-SS, if it's 2.080 inches and has 12 threads per inch then you'd need part # BB2080T-SS, if it's 2.44 inches you'd want the part...

  • How to Pick out Bearing Buddies
In order to pick out the correct bearing buddy you will need know the pilot hole of your hub. To do this, remove the wheel and tire and remove the grease cap from the center of the hub. Usually it is a metal cap that is just lightly hammered into place. Use a screwdriver to pry off the cap. Clean the grease off and measure the opening. I have included a video demonstrating the Bearing Buddy. The Bearing Buddies # BB2441 that you referenced are for hubs with a 2.441 inch hub bore. I can't...

  • What is the Outer Diameter and Thread Pitch of Bearing Buddies # BB2441T-SS
I went out to the warehouse and pulled Bearing Buddies # BB2441T-SS. The outer diameter of the threaded portion is 2.34 inches using digital calipers to measure. The thread pitch is harder to determine. There are approximately 9 threads per inch (only three threads on the actual product) and it is coarse threaded as opposed to fine threaded. These Bearing Buddies are designed to replace Tie Down Turbo Lube oil baths.

Hello Ronnie, thanks for reaching out. Based on my research, the Dexter Oil Cap 48399A measures 2.33". Sadly there is not a bearing buddy in this size. The closest we have to this size will be the Bearing Buddy # BB2441T-SS (2.441" hub bore) or Bearing Buddy # BB2328 (2.328" hub bore), which is not threaded. Hello Shad, thanks for reaching out. We should have an oil cap that can replace the yellow caps on your turbo lube hubs. I will just need to know the weight capacity of your axle, and the hub bore diameter for your hubs. For example, the Kodiak XL ProLube Oil Bath Hub Body and Cap # xlprolube1980 will fit hubs with a 1.98" center bore which is typical for the 3,500 lb axles. Though we do have the Bearing Buddy # BB2441T-SS that is a direct replacement for Tie Down's Turbo Lube oil baths, this will require you changing over to grease instead of oil. With that said, we do also have the Kodiak XL ProLube Kit # XLPROLUBE2440KIT (or # XLPROLUBE2440 as a single cap) that will measure the same, but the end that sits in the hub is not threaded. Yes, Bearing Buddy # BB2441T-SS replaces Tie Down's Turbo Lube oil baths. I ran out to the warehouse and double checked that the outer dimension of the threaded portion matches the 2.33" of your Turbo Lube 48394 cap. You will want to remove the oil from the hub using shop towels and a mild detergent. Let them dry completely before packing them. Bearing Buddy also recommends using a High Performance Silicone Gasket Maker like Loctite's # LT37467 for the installation.

  • How to Remove a Threaded Bearing Buddy That is Stuck
The vast majority of oil bath style hubs will indeed be threaded. These are also notorious for getting pretty stuck after a while. What you will need to do is spray some WD-40 all the way around it after being loosened as much as you can. Let that sit and then tighten, and back off. This may need to be done a few times to break up whatever it is that it is getting hung up on.
