Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors Needed for a 1965 Shasta Trailer

Updated 08/27/2024 | Published 06/25/2011

Question:

I have a 1965 Shasta Trailer that is missing a grease cap. I can see that it is threaded. Would the Bearing Buddies work and what size would I need. Thanks so much in advance for your help.

The Bearing Buddies, # BB2047, are pressed into the hub for a tight fit. To determine the correct part for your trailer hub you will need to measure the diameter of the grease cap mating surface in the hub and match that as closely as possible to the measurements provided on the bearing buddy product pages, see link.

If your grease caps are threaded, the Bearing Buddies, # BB1980T-SS, # BB2441T-SS or # BB2080T-SS, may be the correct size for your hubs, measuring to determine the correct part is required. The most common size is the # BB1980T-SS.

Another possibility is that your hubs are oil bath hubs, if this is the case an oil cap will be needed, see link.

When measuring, a dial caliper is needed to get an accurate measurement. If none of the bearing protectors we carry match your trailer hubs, you will most likely need to contact Shasta for an OEM replacement part.

Is there any update if these fit Kelly's trailer? I am looking for the exact same thing, They aren't oil bath hubs, they're greaseable hubs. I know there any many others out there with these tandem axel horse trailer from the 60's, 70's and 80's with these funky threaded dust caps. I know in another comment from Kirk R, he has the exact same dust caps I have and Kelly has. Cheers, Carson

@CarsonJ Hey Carson. The question above is from way back in 2011 and we never officially got word as to whether these worked for Kellys Shasta trailer or not. It is quite possible that we have a threaded bearing buddy that will work for your trailer, but the only way to know the correct size will be to measure the hub bore with a digital caliper. If you can let me know that measurement, I am happy to look into it.
