Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack

The Malone AirFlow2 roof rack lets you carry gear and accessories on the roof of your vehicle with raised, factory side rails. This complete roof rack system includes 2 aluminum, aerodynamic crossbars and 4 towers. Rubber strips in the top channels push down for easy loading of T-slot accessories and carriers. The full-length crossbars extend past the towers to give you more mounting space for carriers, and the towers have built-in locks to protect the rack from theft. The rack clamps onto your raised side rails and tightens down with the included tool, so it's easy to remove and install.

Aerodynamic Shape

Malone AirFlow2 Crossbar with Endcap

The AirFlow2's Aerodynamic shape helps control air flow over and under the bar to significantly decrease wind noise and vibration even at highway speeds. This decreases the need to add a fairing to your roof rack. The aero-style bar also reduces drag and helps maintain fuel efficiency.

Lightweight, Aluminum Crossbars

Malone AirFlow2 Crossbar with Endcap

The silver crossbars are made of aluminum, which makes them strong, lightweight, and resistant to corrosion. The bars also have plastic endcaps to protect the interiors from the elements and to give your roof rack a finished look.

Durable Towers with Built-In Security

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Towers

The towers are made of molded nylon that won't fade or wear down when exposed to the elements. Each tower includes a nylon cover with a built-in lock to deter would-be thieves from removing the rack from your roof. The covers also protect the towers' interior and hardware from the elements.

Easy Installation with Rubber-Coated Steel Clamps

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Installed

The towers attach to your vehicle's raised, factory side rails with rubber-coated steel clamps. The rubber coating provides a superior grip on your side rails and protects them from damage during installation and use.

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Installation Tool

To tighten, simply turn the bolt inside the tower assembly with the included installation tool until the clamps are snug. Once assembled, the towers and crossbars stay together as one unit, which makes removing, storing, and reinstalling the system a snap. To remove, simply remove the cover and loosen the bolts inside the towers with the installation tool.

Channel and Clamp-On Accessories

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Rubber Clamps

These crossbars have built-in top channels with strips that allow you to carry channel-mounted accessories on your roof. You can remove, trim, and re-insert the strips around the mounting hardware of your accessories to keep the crossbar channel capped and quiet.

Maximum Cargo Carrying Capacity

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Full-Length Crossbars

The AirFlow2 includes full-length crossbars that extend past the towers. The increased length gives you more space to mount accessories and carriers to your roof rack. The bars are compatible with most universal, clamp-on accessories and carriers.

Video Transcript for Malone Roof Rack - Complete Roof Systems - MPG216 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Malone AirFlow 2 Universal roof rack for raised side rails. Now these bars come fully assembled and attached to the factory-installed raised side rails on your vehicle to provide a roof rack system for hauling your gear. This will allow you to carry roof rack accessories like bike racks, baskets, and boxes, kayak carriers, ski and snowboard carriers, and much more. This system will fit side rails that are between one inch and two and one quarter inches wide and have a max height of one and a half inches. Now these bars feature a nice aerodynamic profile, which is really going to help reduce wind noise during travel. These bars will accept accessories that clamp or strap around the bar. They also work with T-slot accessories with the integrated T-slot channel or strip that runs the full length of the top of the bar. The end caps are hinged so that way they open up.

That's going to allow for easier installation of your T-slot accessories. And the T-slot channel has a rubber strip inside of it that will conform around the anchor or attachment point of the T-slot. That's going to help maintain a quiet ride during travel. That's also going to help keep dirt and grime out of the channel as well. Now, these bars are going to come with the adjustable foot. They can slide under the bar.

They're a really nice design. Those feet are going to allow the unit to easily attach to your factory raised side rails on the vehicle. They're going to feature CAM-assist bolts that ensure a tight fit on smaller side rails. And they are padded. So where they grip around the side rails, they have a nice padded design.

That's going to keep them from damaging or scuffing the side rails on your vehicle. They also have a rigid design which is going to provide maximum grip and security once they're fully installed and tightened down. Also want to point out that each end cap is included, and each one is hinged. Also, each tower has built in locks. So those are not an add-on. Those come standard with the towers.

So each tower has a built in lock to secure the rack system to the vehicle roof. The bars themselves are made from a non-corrosive, double-wall aluminum construction. They're very strong, durable, and lightweight. And they have a really nice aero-design, which makes them a really good looking bar, as well. Very quick installation. Again, they're going to come fully assembled, right out of the box. The tool that you need is actually built in to the locking towers. So no additional tools are needed. Now, there's going to be towers that have the letter A on them. That means that those are the ones that have the tool. So if you unlock this, and you pull that out, you can see that the Allen tool needed is built right in to that piece right there. That allows you to place it in there, and then as you tighten that, it's going to bring these feet closer together around your side rail. As you loosen it, it's going to separate those feet further apart. So it's a really nice design. Again, the tool is built in. Each tower has the lock core installed already, to provide maximum security for your roof rack system. With the kit, you're going to get two aero-style cross bars. You're going to get all the necessary towers with the blocks already pre-installed and built in. You're going to get two keys. Either key will work on every lock. You're going to get the necessary end caps, so you'll get four of those. Also, the towers are going to have integrated Allen wrenches, so those are included. Two of the towers have them. Two of the others . Excuse me. Two towers have them. The other two do not have the Allen wrenches. You're going to get these tubular rubber gaskets. These gaskets can be cut to length and installed under the bar, in this channel. That's going to maintain a quiet ride as you head down the road. These bars are available in three different lengths. That way you can get the ones that are going to work best for your vehicle. You can get them in 50 inch, 58 inch, or 65 inch lengths. All are available here at etrailer.com. When it comes to the dimensions of the bar, they're going to measure three and 1/16th of an inch wide by one inch tall or thick. They have a load capacity of 165 pounds per pair. And they're going to be covered with a lifetime warranty. That's going to do it for today's look at the Malone AirFlow 2 Universal roof rack for raised side rails.

The roof rack is solid and still going strong...in my garage. Unfortunately the 2010 Ford Edge was not as solid and the roof racks are awaiting the next vehicle. Thanks for the follow-up and have a great day! [Thumbs up] 719514

Very impressed with the quality of product for the price. Was able to install quickly and easily and seems very strong/reliable. The 58" was a perfect size for the 2012 Honda Pilot and should be able to fit our Thule luggage carrier no problem. 426641

I am overall happy with this product and the aero design is quiet on the road. I do not like the large feet that get attached to the factory roof racks and their large size does not allow my Yakima kayak carriers to straddle over the feet. The locking mechanism is also giving me problems as the key gets stuck trying to get past the security cover piece on the lock. I attempted to lubricate it but will still get stuck occasionally. The allen wrench device is a pain for installing the bars since you cannot turn it 360 degrees without hitting the bottom side of the bar and mandates removing the wrench and starting back at the other side. I would recommend getting same brand products to avoid the issues I'm having and not try to mix one brand bars with another brand rack/carrier. 567558

Comments
I have been satisfied so far but have removed the locking mechanism since it gave me trouble and the key would get stuck. The blade style gives a slight whistle at higher speeds but was expected.

I just received these today. Installation was easy. I haven't used them for carrying a load yet, but I don't have any reason to believe it wont work fine. These bars are way cheaper than Thule, and they seem to be very good quality. I was expecting them to be noisey, but so far (speeds below 70 mph) that has not been the case. The service from these folks was excellent. George responded immediately to a mistake on my address. He corrected it and the bars arrived within three days of ordering. Very happy I ordered from these folks. 477818

Quick service product built very well haven’t driven with the kayaks on it yet but feels very secure. The only thing I would change is once you get everything aligned I wish the brackets would stay where they are at on the bars but as soon as you loosen to remove them the brackets move. 529492

After a year of use, still happy with this rack, although one of the clamp nuts slips When tightening down on my roof rack. Still holds securely but I have to be careful when installing.

Pontiac Trans Sport Van

I purchased the 58" model cross bars because I often have to transport materials for work that wont fit in my car. I am also planning on buying a kayak and wanted the cross bars to accept a kayak carrier. I had some difficulty finding cross bars that were long enough but not crazy expensive. These fit the bill. The installation was quite easy and they look like they came with the car. I have had it out on the highway and there is no noise. Very pleased. 406186

These fit my Volvo XC90 R-Type perfectly. They are very sturdy and secure. The only thing I can say that might bother some people is the wind noise you will hear when driving. Even though I put the rubber strips underneath to reduce the wind noise you can definitely still hear it. However for me that isn’t an issue, when I hit the road I’m blasting my music so it doesn’t bother me. 638438

Comments
Unfortunately, adding anything to the roof of a vehicle will generate wind noise. Its unavoidable. As you mentioned, it can be minimized by ensuring that the rubber strips are in place atop and on the underside of the crossbars.

Really great rack at half the price of the other brands. not sure why more people don't know about these! I also bought some van ladder rack accessories to fit 4x8 sheet plywood on the roof, and the 58" was just slightly too short to have these fit on both sides, so get a longer rack if you want to do this. 642745

2015 Ford Explorer

The Malone AirFow2 Roof Rack- Aero Crossbars arrived in the mail around 1pm today and I finished installing by 4:30 pm. They look great on my metallic black 2015 Ford explorer and will work great for my needs and the price was great. The only problems encountered were the end caps for the Aero Crossbars plastic retaining clip was broken on 3 of the 4 end caps. The one that wasn't broken worked and I was able to remove it to install molding to reduce wind noise. The other 3 I just mounted using clear silicon sealant. I hope they remain on as I have not driven the SUV with the crossbars installed yet. I would appreciate you sending replacement end caps with retaining clips intact. Care should be exercised because the plastic seems to be brittle and could easily be broken. I would recommend these Crossbars for Ford Explorer installations and you can' t beat the value and they look great with my silver factory side rails. 528791

2014 Toyota RAV4

Bought the MPG216 for a 2014 RAV4. The smaller MPG215 would have worked/fit and are wider that the Toyota crossbars which created a problem mounting my long ski box (rear hatch wouldn't open). Have mounted the crossbars and installed my ski box. Pleased with the apparent quality of the crossbars and mounting hardware. Originally received some incorrect information from etrailer about the towers. Malone (OEM) provided correct info. Later, received updated useful info on width from etrailer. Took multiple emails to sort out the sizing. 544591

2018 Toyota RAV4

I purchased the Malone MPG216 racks for a 2018 RAV4. The product was delivered in excellent condition. The installation was relatively easy to do. I bought the 58 inch wide racks instead of the 50 inch racks. They fit the vehicle well. The extra overhang due to the additional 8 inch crossbar width did prevent me from making 360 degree turns with the supplied allen wrench so it took me an extra 10 minutes to tighten the rack down to the siderails. This was not a big deal and I like the extra 8 inches. The I will post an update later on to let you know how well they function under load on the road. The Etrailer customer service has been excellent so far. Jason promptly answered some initial questions I had about another rack I was considering. His advice was helpful. 573872

These bars are noisey at highway speeds on our first iteration Volvo XC90. Main usage is simultaneous kayak and SUP/paddle board transport. A little flimsy under the weight of both but never caused a real worry. I would recommend them for the price even considering the above. Easy installation and they lock which is a plus. 549485

2015 Nissan Pathfinder

-2015 Nissan Pathfinder. -Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack - Aero Crossbars - Raised, Factory Side Rails - Aluminum - 58" Long. This is my first ever roof rack so I am by far no expert. I researched many roof racks and I just couldn't see spending 500, 600, or over $700 on an accessory. The installation is not nearly as easy as some would think, in my opinion. However, I am anal and meticulous about every detail. I put the roof rack rail on and got everything into place with measurements (width between them, how much they stick out, etc). Then I mark the underneath of the racks for the rubber to go so I could cut it precisely (you slide in the rubber...although I think some cramped the rails down and then stuffed the rubber in). Pros: -Look at my vehicle...I think they look amazing...especially for the price. -Everything is very firm and doesn't move after proper installation. -Matches chrome on car and current cross bars Cons: -End caps are cheaply made, but I didn't have any problem getting them to snap in. Get a higher grade plastic or something -Directions that were provided were sparse and you kind of have to figure it out on your own, which wasn't too difficult. -THE NOISE is my biggest complaint. It's not terrible but enough to annoy me. These are advertised as "Airflow2" so come on. And I'm no aerodynamics professor but shouldn't the more narrow end be pointed toward the wind, not the fat end? Maybe a moonroof visor would help the noise...I don't know. 3.5 - 4 out of 5 because of the noise and because of the cutting and cheap end caps. But for the money, I think they're worth it. Good luck to your purchase and installation...it's not too bad. :) 510052

Unfortunately, any time a piece of equipment is installed on a vehicle roof, there is going to be wind noise, its unavoidable. Airfoil-shaped crossbars like those on the Malone rack you purchased are actually much more quiet than the older square or round-profiled crossbars. The crossbars are indeed meant to be installed so that the thicker end is pointed forward to the wind, just like an aircraft wing. To keep the wind noise to a minimum, its important that the entire length of the slots in the underside of the crossbar are filled with the provided rubber strips .

This product caught my eye because it looked to be light, low profile, useful and easy to assemble with a clever mounting system. Now that the rack is installed, it is proving to be all those things. The extruded aluminum bars are wing-like in cross section, and though they apparently don't help my van fly, at least the shape handles wind resistance well. It's a thoughtful touch to provide the plastic inserts for the bottom channels -- so far, no sign of flute-like wind noises! One small but significant change I'd like to see, though -- provide a handy link to a selection of T-bolts on your website. The rack system is perfectly useless without some sort of tie-down attachments! I wandered around my local hardware store and cobbed together a decent eye bolt system for tie-downs. I have just begun to use the racks as a way to carry extension ladders. Too soon to tell about long-term ruggedness, but with sensible loading of select ladders, the system seems to perform flawlessly. It seems to be able to handle anything the factory roof rails could handle, so I am very pleased with the results. 505864

I installed these (58") on a 2018 4Runner. Great buy! These seem well made and will likely fit the bill; clamp tight, hold fast, and surprisingly quiet. Round bars ROAR at ~ 40 mph. These aren't audible until ~60 mph; simply background/road noise at 72 mph. My only concern is the endcaps. One really has to be sure to push in to get them to "click" into place and are a bit flimsy. 448006

We received Item in good condition even though the box was received damaged. Installation was easy except the rubber insert. It is indicated in instructions , The rubber inserts are applied after you install the crossbars on the vehicle. (next to last page). Recommendation: The rubber inserts should be installed on crossbars before you install them on vehicle. The allen key is a little tricky because it prevents you from making a full turn. A shorter allen key was used instead. The item arrived earlier than expected which was great. 607703

This rack attaches with vacuum cups which hold the bars firmly to the vehicle roof. I attached a review video for more info on this as well.

  • Roof Rack Recommendation that Fits Flush Rails of 2017 Volvo XC90
Thanks for the picture of the roof of your 2017 Volvo XC90! From that I can tell you have what is considered flush rails which while we have great roof rack fits for the Malone part # MPG216 would not fit as this rack system requires rails that are raised off of the roof that you could fit your hand under. Instead you'd need a rack designed to attach to flush rails like the Rhino Rack roof rack part numbers # RRVA126B-2 and # RRSX040 which is a confirmed fit for your roof, installs easily,...

  • Roof Rack to Fit Both 2017 Jeep Cherokee and 2017 Volkswagen SportWagen
I am happy to check for a common roof rack fit for your two vehicles, the 2017 Jeep Cherokee and the 2017 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen. All roof racks we offer for each vehicle are shown on the two linked pages. If the Cherokee has factory roof rails that run front-to-back you could use one set of Rhino-Rack bars, 49-inch Vortex Aero bars # RRVA126B-2, on both vehicles. On the Cherokee the bars will install using SX Leg Kit # RRSX100 and on the VW you can use Leg Kit # RRSX022. The...

  • Will Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack with 58 Inch Bars Fit a 2008 Toyota RAV4
Yes, you can use # MPG216 on your 2008 Toyota RAV4. The only reason it is not listed as a fit is because the ideal bar length for your RAV4 is 50 inches when it comes to the Malone AirFlow2 systems. But sometimes you just need or want longer bars so it is fine to use a system that has them; in this case that system is # MPG216. Just watch your head when you get in and out of the vehicle!

  • Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier Recommendation for 2019 Volvo XC90
The roof rack I recommend for you 2019 Volvo XC90 is the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack # MPG216 because this rack has aero shaped crossbars which minimize wind noise, is very easy to install, includes locks, and because the price is incredibly good. For a kayak carrier I recommend the Thule Hull a Port part # TH848 because it fits the Malone crossbars well, is padded, can fold down when not in use, and if ever needed could easily carry a second kayak.

  • Fitting Malone AirFlow 2's to a 2013 BMW X5 With Raised Roof Rails
I have a possible solution for you, but the Malone AirFlow2 58 Inch, part # MPG216 would be adversely affected by trimming the roof rails. Additionally, there is a good chance the endcaps will not fit on the bar after they are trimmed. Instead, I recommend looking at the 50 inch version of the AirFlow 2, part # MPG215. I took a measurement and the spread between bases is 44 inches at their maximum spread. This could be a fit for your vehicle if the raised rails on your vehicle are 44...

  • How Tight Do the Clamps on the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Need to Be
Yes, you can damage the feet on the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack part # MPG216 while installing it on your 2016 Nissan Pathfinder. I called my contact at Malone and they stated that their is not a specific increment or torque spec that will need to be applied to the mounting feet but rather to use your best judgment. As long as there is not any movement in the bars/feet once they are tight then you should be fine. If you started to see any of the plastic bend or flex then you know you have...

  • Shorter Crossbar Roof Rack for 2016 Jeep Cherokee with Raised Roof Rails
If you check out the picture I attached you can see why the longer version of the Malone Roof Rack part # MPG216 is recommended and not the shorter one. If you look at the rear bar you can see that there is enough bar overhang to fit the shorter bar but then if you look at the front bar you can see the overhang is much smaller due to the raised rails not sitting totally parallel. Thule offers a similar roof rack that does have different length crossbars if you'd prefer a rack that has...

  • Will the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Fit a 2019 Toyota RAV4 Adventure
The Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack part # MPG216 is a confirmed fit for your 2019 Toyota RAV4 Adventure and an excellent option at that. The AirFlow2 is easy to take on and off the vehicle, has locks for security, and the aero shaped bars cut down on wind noise. This system is easily the best bang for your buck and what I recommend for you and many others.

  • Crossbar Roof Rack Recommendation for 2018 Toyota RAV4 with Raised Side Rails
For your 2018 Toyota RAV4 with factory raised roof side rails we have crossbar roof racks that are a fit but not from Malone as they recommend the smaller # MPG215. Instead your best option is the Thule Rapid Crossroad Feet # TH450R, 47" WingBar Evo Crossbars # TH711220, as well as locks # TH450400. The Thule crossbars work great with the Yakima Showdown part # Y04081 that you have.

  • Can Crossbars be Added to 2016 GMC Denali With Raised Side Rails
You can absolutely add crossbars to your 2016 GMC Acadia Denali with raised side rails. Since you already have crossbars I recommend going with a cost-effective but still quality option, the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack - Aero Crossbars # MPG216. These are aerodynamic bars to help ensure you have a quiet ride and come with locking towers that you can position wherever you like on your GMC's side rails which is going to allow you to use your rooftop cargo carrier!

  • What is a Waterproof Storage Solution for a Roof Cargo Basket?
It is absolutely fine to leave a roof cargo basket on when it is not in use. This adds a rugged style to the vehicle and means that you will not need to find space inside your home or garage to store the rack between trips. A recommended setup for a cargo basket on a 2016 Jeep Renegade is the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack, part # MPG216 combined with the Curt Roof Mounted Basket, part # C18115. This provides additional cargo space and is expandable with the Cargo Basket Extender, part #...

  • Installation of Malone Roof Rails # MPG216 for Maximum Crossbar Spread
The Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack - Aero Crossbars - Raised, Factory Side Rails - Aluminum - 58" Long # MPG216 are able to be positioned anywhere along your factory side rails. They do have a recommended minimum of 27-1/2 inches spread to help disperse the weight, but there is not a maximum crossbar spread restriction. You can absolutely move them farther apart to carry something larger on your roof, you will just want to stay within the rated capacity of 165 lbs. As long as you are on the...

  • Will Yakima Rooftop Cargo Box Fit on Malone AirFlow2 on a 2011 Subaru Forester
The Malone AirFlow2 is a good choice for your 2011 Subaru Forester. I recommend the 58 inch bar version, part # MPG216. A Yakima roof box, like the SkyBox 21 # Y07337, will fit just fine on the AirFlow2. The bars on the AirFlow2 should be spaced about 27-1/2 inches apart and the SkyBox fits a crossbar spread of 24 to 42 inches.

  • Roof Rack Recommendation for 2019 Volvo XC90 with Flush Roof Rails
For your 2019 Volvo XC90 with flush mounted roof rails the roof rack I recommend is the Rhino Rack roof rack part numbers # RRVA126B-2 and # RRSX040 because this rack gives you aero bars which means minimal wind noise, is very easy to install, and overall you get a higher quality roof rack at a better price than the more expensive brands. The Malone roof rack part # MPG216 that you referenced would fit your vehicle only if it had raised roof side rails instead.

  • Roof Rack Recommendation for 2019 Toyota RAV4 with Raised Roof Rails
While we do have roof racks that are a confirmed fit for your 2019 Toyota RAV4 hybrid with raised roof rails the Yakima Railgrab racks were discontinued a while back so they were never tested on your vehicle. There's a chance it could work but we can't say for certain. We do have the Malone AirFlow2 rack part # MPG216 which is a confirmed fit and will work great. This is a very easy to install roof rack that gives you aero shaped bars which will minimize wind noise. Also the price is...
