Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack

The Malone AirFlow2 roof rack lets you carry gear and accessories on the roof of your vehicle with raised, factory side rails. This complete roof rack system includes 2 aluminum, aerodynamic crossbars and 4 towers. Rubber strips in the top channels push down for easy loading of T-slot accessories and carriers. The full-length crossbars extend past the towers to give you more mounting space for carriers, and the towers have built-in locks to protect the rack from theft. The rack clamps onto your raised side rails and tightens down with the included tool, so it's easy to remove and install.

Aerodynamic Shape

Malone AirFlow2 Crossbar with Endcap

The AirFlow2's Aerodynamic shape helps control air flow over and under the bar to significantly decrease wind noise and vibration even at highway speeds. This decreases the need to add a fairing to your roof rack. The aero-style bar also reduces drag and helps maintain fuel efficiency.

Lightweight, Aluminum Crossbars

Malone AirFlow2 Crossbar with Endcap

The silver crossbars are made of aluminum, which makes them strong, lightweight, and resistant to corrosion. The bars also have plastic endcaps to protect the interiors from the elements and to give your roof rack a finished look.

Durable Towers with Built-In Security

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Towers

The towers are made of molded nylon that won't fade or wear down when exposed to the elements. Each tower includes a nylon cover with a built-in lock to deter would-be thieves from removing the rack from your roof. The covers also protect the towers' interior and hardware from the elements.

Easy Installation with Rubber-Coated Steel Clamps

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Installed

The towers attach to your vehicle's raised, factory side rails with rubber-coated steel clamps. The rubber coating provides a superior grip on your side rails and protects them from damage during installation and use.

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Installation Tool

To tighten, simply turn the bolt inside the tower assembly with the included installation tool until the clamps are snug. Once assembled, the towers and crossbars stay together as one unit, which makes removing, storing, and reinstalling the system a snap. To remove, simply remove the cover and loosen the bolts inside the towers with the installation tool.

Channel and Clamp-On Accessories

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Rubber Clamps

These crossbars have built-in top channels with strips that allow you to carry channel-mounted accessories on your roof. You can remove, trim, and re-insert the strips around the mounting hardware of your accessories to keep the crossbar channel capped and quiet.

Maximum Cargo Carrying Capacity

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Full-Length Crossbars

The AirFlow2 includes full-length crossbars that extend past the towers. The increased length gives you more space to mount accessories and carriers to your roof rack. The bars are compatible with most universal, clamp-on accessories and carriers.

Okay, etrailer seems to be okay so far. Just installed the Malone airflow 2 and it took way to long. I had trouble getting the boots on the rail system. After trying one side then the other, it still took a while to loosen or tighten, trying both ways till they finally went on. Bottom line, I had to work with it to long to get them on the rail system, but after I did! It seems okay. I honestly am not wanting to go through the hassle of taking them off and putting them on over and over. Cutting the rubber inserts for the bottom for wind noise may make that experience okay if it keeps the boots from moving when taking the rails off. Also thought I had one the book break on me but it’s technically not broke. Here is a picture.

I bought this roof rack for my 2017 Honda Ridgeline with factory installed side rails, and am very pleased. The product has excellent features for the price. Features I wanted: aerodynamic profile for a quieter ride; locking towers for security; and built-in tightening tools for ease of installation. The fit and finish are excellent. Installation is very easy and can be done in a few minutes. I use mine for transporting a canoe and kayak.

Love these Aero Crossbars! I received them on a day where I happened to have a super long day at work. I was so tired but when I saw them at my door, I was like, I need to install these. I did the installation in the dark with little light. They were super easy to install. They are strong, sturdy sharp looking. I was wondering how they were going to be due to the costs. Hundreds of dollars cheaper than other brands I was considering. However, I have say I absolutely love them and they look great on my car. 5 star review hands down! I feel like I got a really great deal. If you are looking from some crossbars, I would absolutely recommend the Melon AirFlow 2.

Fit well and were fairly simple to install. Lots of measuring and remeasuring to make sure everything was balanced and secure. Included tool was awkward to use. It was not long enough to extend beyond the end of the crossbar requiring inserting and removal for each turn.

2012 Ford Explorer

Just returned from a 600 mile trip with my new Malones. Big fan. It took me about 30 minutes to install just perfectly. Very simple installation, everything is preassembled for the most part, I just had to mess with the rubber protectors, which was easy. They are much more secure and stable than the stock cross bars on my 2012 Explorer, and they look great. At freeway speeds, I had just the whisper of a whistle as I was going into the wind, without the supplied lower rubber gasket installed. I figured I'd see how much it whistled without it, and it was very little. Around town, they are silent. So I'll probably not install that gasket. What makes me happiest, is that they are much less expensive than the other brands, but have the same features (locking, fully adjustable, simple installation) It feels like I got a screaming deal, which I like.

2018 Nissan Rogue

Had these on for a while so I wanted to give my 2-cents. I got aero bars expecting that there would be little to no wind noise, but I still get a high pitched whistle when driving. I've looked around to see if there is anything that could be the culprit but haven't yet. I may have to play around a bit and try different positions. Installation was a lot harder than expected. The allen wrench that works with the system did not seem to work well with the socket in the pillars at times. Also with the bar in place it is very hard to tighten or loosen the pillars as the wrench hits it when turning. I was starting to get concerned that the sockets were getting chewed up by the wrench during installation. The instructions are bare minimum and not very helpful. On the plus side, they look fine and are affordable, and should last for a while. We don't load stuff on the roof often so I might just take them off and put them back on when we need them.

Comments
I have attached an installation video for your year, make, and model so you can see the best placement possible for the Aero bars. The whistling noise most likely has something to do with the rubber strips not covering a certain area of the bars. Be sure to install the strips into the underside of the crossbars as well as the tops. Also, you can add a wind fairing to keep wind off the bars, therefore, reducing the noise, with item # RRRF4

I wanted to reach out to you in regards to your review on the roof rack. You mentioned that it was not the correct rack for your vehicle and I wanted to ask you could explain in more detail why it was not a fit for you. I am happy to look for a different rack that would work for you. Do you have a 2019 Subaru Outback Wagon? Does it have factory raised or flush rails?

Comments
My wife took her car to the Subaru dealer yesterday, yes, it is a 2019 outback wagon, it turns out she already has a rack system on the car as shown in the picture I am sending you, which I didn’t know about, so I do not need any rails, but she will be looking at some of the soft and hard cargo carriers on your website hopefully tonight or tomorrow. Thank you for your help.

2011 Toyota RAV4

Installed easily with 2 people, one person can do it, but it just saves time going back and forth taking measurements. It is much more solid than the original cross bars, and there is no curvature, so its a flat surface all the way across. It was needed to haul additional items up top. There just wasnt enough room on the original rack for a cargo haler and anything else. I would agree with previous reviews, the end caps are the weak link. Broke the first one while installing it. The secret is that you have to physically push down the plastic locking tab with a small screwdriver, while pushing it in. Even though it has a beveled tab, it will NOT simply push in place, if you force it, the tab will break. Initial trip will be 3000 plus miles, so I will review after trip.

Volvo XC90

These fit my Volvo XC90 R-Type perfectly. They are very sturdy and secure. The only thing I can say that might bother some people is the wind noise you will hear when driving. Even though I put the rubber strips underneath to reduce the wind noise you can definitely still hear it. However for me that isn’t an issue, when I hit the road I’m blasting my music so it doesn’t bother me.

Comments
Unfortunately, adding anything to the roof of a vehicle will generate wind noise. Its unavoidable. As you mentioned, it can be minimized by ensuring that the rubber strips are in place atop and on the underside of the crossbars.

I received these racks a day early. They were super easy to install and they look great on my 2012 Ford Explorer. I was hesitant to buy these racks because they were so much cheaper than the name brands, but I am completely happy with them. The fit and finish are fantastic, I highly recommend them.

Comments
Still like the racks, but the flip down piece on the plastic end caps came off on 3 of the ends and I had to buy the complete end cap assembly just to get the flip down covers.

2016 Mercedes-Benz Metris

The 58" Malone MPG216 bars replaced a set of 58" Malone Steel bars. The new bars feel sturdier and a definitely quieter. The fit and finish is great, except for one bar end that doesn't fit as tightly as it should. I put my Yakima Skybox 21 on top of them and they did the job. My only complaint is that they already have a slight bend after being loaded with just 140 lbs. I expected a bend to occur later in the year since the top box stays on for 6 months out of the year, but not after just one road trip. But, there was no movement from the bars or the box at all during the 1600 mile trip. So far, so good.

Comments
The Yakima skybox is about 70 lbs on its own. The weight capacity of the roof rack is 165 lbs. If you are putting 140 lbs worth of cargo in the box, plus the weight of the box itself on the bars that is 210 lbs. The bars will bend if they have 210 lbs of weight on them. Please make sure you are taking into account the weight of the box on the bars as well.

2015 Nissan Pathfinder

-2015 Nissan Pathfinder. -Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack - Aero Crossbars - Raised, Factory Side Rails - Aluminum - 58" Long. This is my first ever roof rack so I am by far no expert. I researched many roof racks and I just couldn't see spending 500, 600, or over $700 on an accessory. The installation is not nearly as easy as some would think, in my opinion. However, I am anal and meticulous about every detail. I put the roof rack rail on and got everything into place with measurements (width between them, how much they stick out, etc). Then I mark the underneath of the racks for the rubber to go so I could cut it precisely (you slide in the rubber...although I think some cramped the rails down and then stuffed the rubber in). Pros: -Look at my vehicle...I think they look amazing...especially for the price. -Everything is very firm and doesn't move after proper installation. -Matches chrome on car and current cross bars Cons: -End caps are cheaply made, but I didn't have any problem getting them to snap in. Get a higher grade plastic or something -Directions that were provided were sparse and you kind of have to figure it out on your own, which wasn't too difficult. -THE NOISE is my biggest complaint. It's not terrible but enough to annoy me. These are advertised as "Airflow2" so come on. And I'm no aerodynamics professor but shouldn't the more narrow end be pointed toward the wind, not the fat end? Maybe a moonroof visor would help the noise...I don't know. 3.5 - 4 out of 5 because of the noise and because of the cutting and cheap end caps. But for the money, I think they're worth it. Good luck to your purchase and installation...it's not too bad. :)

Comments
Unfortunately, any time a piece of equipment is installed on a vehicle roof, there is going to be wind noise, its unavoidable. Airfoil-shaped crossbars like those on the Malone rack you purchased are actually much more quiet than the older square or round-profiled crossbars. The crossbars are indeed meant to be installed so that the thicker end is pointed forward to the wind, just like an aircraft wing. To keep the wind noise to a minimum, its important that the entire length of the slots in the underside of the crossbar are filled with the provided rubber strips .

Great cross bar gripping on bars are really well, just the watch out for the bar end clip locking it broke easy maybe they can send me another one for free since I gave 5 star. If not just put tape just like the others so bar end clips don’t start missing on road trips. Overall great product so far for me the best cross bar I ever had.

Toyota RAV4

The rails look great, very easy to install (although I wish the hex key tool had a ball tip, I used my own wrench). I read other reviews about wind noise, I have none with or without the stripping underneath. My only recommendation to others is to measure your width, the Rav4 is a little more narrow than my other vehicles. I went with the 58" so it would extend out past the vehicle. I'm often by myself loading the top, so it gives more rail to work with, making it less awkward trying to avoid contact to the vehicle.

Comments
After a year, this product still gets a 5 star. Easy install and good price. I did notice some wind noise with the sun roof open, otherwise quiet.

This roof rack is great. I also bought the canoe/boat attachment for this roof rack. I traveled in my GMC Yukon with a 16' canoe on this roof rack from Oregon to PA last Nov. It was windy through WY and the canoe was very stable. No problems during the entire trip. I would recommend this rack and the canoe attachment. The rack also has a locking feature that is nice.

Really glad I went with these cross rails over one of the fancy well known brands! These have been on my car since I installed them and they are just as tight on the runners as they were when I installed them. Haven’t experienced any noise while driving on the highway. Well worth the purchase, 12/10, would recommend.

We have mounted canoes, 4x8 sheets of plywood, lumber and ladders on these racks. I mounted them on a Forester. All went extremely well. They are well locked onto the car's cargo rails. I do not worry about folks walking off with them. Getting them on and off takes some time. But I am getting more efficient with the process. I am glad I bought them and for my uses, I would buy them again.

One year after for my Malone roof racks, still loving them. I have used them mostly with some Rhino Rack ski/snowboard racks all winter in the harsh Canadian cold. One I realized that I could use my cordless drill with a long allen wrench tip to speed up the process of installing and uninstalling these racks, they from a 5 star rating to, well couldn’t go any higher than it already was, but if I could, I would. [Just don’t overtighten.]. I have installed some gorilla tape over the black plastic end caps so they don’t fall out. Because I install and uninstall them often (about 12 times total in the year I’ve had them, they were a bit loose, but to be expected. With a little tape, they’re not going anywhere.

2020 Subaru Forester

I installed these 58" Malone Airflow2's on my 2020 subaru forester and they look and fit great on the vehicle. The Malone Airflow 2 are an amazing deal and seem to be everything I need. The only difficulty I ran into is when I went to install the something into the T-track of the Bars they state in the description and the videos that you can press down on the top seal and slide the T-track attachments in. In theory that's great but that wasn't my experience. I have the Hullavator pro. The nut for the hullavator to connect the attachment too the bars are too thick to sit on top of the seal that seals the top of the bar gap. I measured and cut the seal out where I wanted the attachments placed on the bars and have had no problems. It all works as needed.

Just got my Malone Racks yesterday and I immediately installed it. First one was a little tricky, since I had to center the rack and cut rubber strips Exactly to the length on outside gaps. But the second one was easy. Then I took them for a test drive, no Whistles but a little wing noise but not too bad. They look great. Next test will be to strap on Paddle boards, I’ll let you know after I get that on.

This was the perfect size for my 2019 Nissan Pathfinder. It works well with the Thule Air Screen (44") and the Thule Pulse M Cargo Box. I drove on the freeway with no issues and with the help of the air screen; NO WIND NOISE! The only thing if you get these bars is realize you will need some zip-ties for the air screen to be secure. The aero clips work for the Malone Aero Crossbars but just the hook point for the TOP Thule air screen clip does not hook to the bar. Only the bottom will fit perfectly. However, I drove on the freeway (65-75mph) for 15 miles with no issues. Just a heads up...

  • Will the Yakima SUPDawg work with the Malone Roof Rack Systems
If your Lexus RX450h has the raised factory side rails the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack part # MPG216 is a great easy to use roof rack. That will fit perfectly. If it does not have the raised factory side rails but has a bare or naked roof instead a kit consisting of the Inno Aero Crossbars part # INXB138-2, Inno Through Feet for Aero Crossbars part # INXS250 and the Custom Fit Kit part # INK868 will do the trick. Both of these will work out great with the Yakima SUPDawg Stand-Up Paddleboard...

For the value and quality you get it's hard to beat the Malone Air Flow roof rack that fits your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon with the part # MPG216. With this rack you get a higher quality aero bar roof rack at a much better price than similar quality options.

  • Crossbars Compatible With My 2016 Toyota 4Runner & The Thule Hullavator
All you need to be able to use the Thule Hullavator # TH898 is between 4-8 inches of overhang from the foot to the end of the crossbar. That being said, the 50 inch bars leave only an inch of space beyond the mounting feet. So a rail that's 54 to 60 inches is what you're needing. This Malone AirFlow 2 # MPG216 will fall within that range and will work with the Hullavator. Any aero bar will work!

  • Rhino-Rack or Malone Roof Rack for 2017 Nissan Pathfinder With Raised Rails
Hands down the better option for your 2017 Nissan Pathfinder with raised rails is the Rhino-Rack over the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack # MPG216. The Malone is really a more universal type of fit that is an all-in-one with bars that are smaller in diameter and height than the Rhino-Rack and not at the overall level of quality. If you were looking for a rack that you'd just use occasionally it would be fine, but since you are using things like a rooftop tent and awning, it seems like you're...

  • Recommended Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier for a 2020 Subaru Crosstrek
In order to carry kayaks on a 2020 Subaru Crosstrek you'll need a roof rack, the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack part # MPG216 is what I recommend as it's super cost effective and it comes with most of the same features as other top tier options. In order to secure the kayaks you'll need to do so on their side, the etrailer J-Style Kayak Carrier part # e98878 is what I recommend and it comes with everything you need.

  • Load Stop and Straps to Carry Ladder on Malone AirFlow2 Aero Crossbars
The Rhino Rack Load Stops part # RRRLH2 fit the Malone AirFlow2 crossbars like the part # MPG216 that you referenced. Using these with some straps like the Rhino-Rack Cam Buckle Cinch Straps # RRRTD35P would be a really solid choice to carry the ladder.

  • Roof Rack Recommended for 2020 Subaru Outback with Retractable Crossbar Roof Rack
There are lots of options available, and the right choice will depend mainly on your budget and how often you're planning on using them. As luck would have it, the most popular choice for your vehicle, the Malone AirFlow2, part # MPG216 also happens to be the least expensive. The AirFlow2 rack is very highly rated by our customers. The rack has a 165 lb capacity, and also includes channels in the top of the crossbar for any channel/slot mounted accessories you might have. The crossbars...

The Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack part # MPG216 is an excellent option for a 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon and will work on models with the swing-out crossbars. • Roof Rack for 2017 Nissan Rogue with Bare Roof
We can help you with a roof rack for your 2017 Rogue that has a bare roof but the specific Malone rack # MPG216 that you referenced is for the Rogue that has raised front-to-back rails on the roof. For a quiet aero bar rack like the Malone I suggest the Rhino-Rack Vortex system, parts # RRVA126B-2, # RRRLKVA and # DK396, which is a complete roof rack system made for your Rogue's bare roof. This rack version has black crossbars which many find to have a cleaner appearance, but if you...

Yes, you can use your 165 lbs roof top tent with the Malone Airflow2 Roof Rack # MPG216 for use on your 2019 Volkswagen Atlas. You will be right at the weight capacity of the roof rack and your vehicle's roof weight rating (both are 165 lbs), however, so you won't be able to store any additional gear on the roof rack. • Wind Fairing for Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack With 58 Inch Crossbars
The clamps for the old Thule XT fairings have been discontinued, and there are no adapters that are designed to work with your Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack # MPG216 with 58" crossbars, so the best option really is a new wind fairing. I recommend measuring the distance between the feet of your Malone AirFlow2 roof rack to ensure a fit, and so long as they are 43" or less apart the wind fairing I recommend is the 50" Rhino-Rack Fairing for Roof Racks # RRRF4. I have added links to a video...
