Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack

The Malone AirFlow2 roof rack lets you carry gear and accessories on the roof of your vehicle with raised, factory side rails. This complete roof rack system includes 2 aluminum, aerodynamic crossbars and 4 towers. Rubber strips in the top channels push down for easy loading of T-slot accessories and carriers. The full-length crossbars extend past the towers to give you more mounting space for carriers, and the towers have built-in locks to protect the rack from theft. The rack clamps onto your raised side rails and tightens down with the included tool, so it's easy to remove and install.

Aerodynamic Shape

Malone AirFlow2 Crossbar with Endcap

The AirFlow2's Aerodynamic shape helps control air flow over and under the bar to significantly decrease wind noise and vibration even at highway speeds. This decreases the need to add a fairing to your roof rack. The aero-style bar also reduces drag and helps maintain fuel efficiency.

Lightweight, Aluminum Crossbars

Malone AirFlow2 Crossbar with Endcap

The silver crossbars are made of aluminum, which makes them strong, lightweight, and resistant to corrosion. The bars also have plastic endcaps to protect the interiors from the elements and to give your roof rack a finished look.

Durable Towers with Built-In Security

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Towers

The towers are made of molded nylon that won't fade or wear down when exposed to the elements. Each tower includes a nylon cover with a built-in lock to deter would-be thieves from removing the rack from your roof. The covers also protect the towers' interior and hardware from the elements.

Easy Installation with Rubber-Coated Steel Clamps

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Installed

The towers attach to your vehicle's raised, factory side rails with rubber-coated steel clamps. The rubber coating provides a superior grip on your side rails and protects them from damage during installation and use.

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Installation Tool

To tighten, simply turn the bolt inside the tower assembly with the included installation tool until the clamps are snug. Once assembled, the towers and crossbars stay together as one unit, which makes removing, storing, and reinstalling the system a snap. To remove, simply remove the cover and loosen the bolts inside the towers with the installation tool.

Channel and Clamp-On Accessories

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Rubber Clamps

These crossbars have built-in top channels with strips that allow you to carry channel-mounted accessories on your roof. You can remove, trim, and re-insert the strips around the mounting hardware of your accessories to keep the crossbar channel capped and quiet.

Maximum Cargo Carrying Capacity

Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack Full-Length Crossbars

The AirFlow2 includes full-length crossbars that extend past the towers. The increased length gives you more space to mount accessories and carriers to your roof rack. The bars are compatible with most universal, clamp-on accessories and carriers.

Video Transcript for Malone AirFlow2 Universal Roof Rack Installation - 2015 Subaru Forester

Speaker 1: Today in our 2015 Subaru Forester, we're gonna be taking a look at, and showing you how to install the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack System, part number MPG215.That's gonna be for 50-inch long cross bars. It's also available in 58-inch long cross bars, using part number MGP216, and 65-inch long cross bars, using MGP217.Our Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack System is going to allow us to free up space inside of our Forester, making more room for passengers and pets. Whether it be a bike rack, a kayak carrier, or even a cargo box for some elongated gear, it's gonna free up that space inside, and allow us to mount it up top.Our Malone AirFlow2 is going to be one of the easiest arrow bar roof rack systems to put on out of the box. It's gonna come with those included lock cores and it's going to have a lot of the same features that a lot of the higher-end roof rack systems have. Out of the box, our cross bars and foot packs are already going to be pre-assembled, so all we're going to have to do is set 'em on top of our raised rails, get our measurements down, and tighten everything up.Metal lock cores are included out of the box and it does come with two keys that are keyed alike for all four foot packs. The cross bars themselves are going to be aluminum, so they're going to be lightweight and rust-proof.

The elliptical shape to 'em is going to cut down on that wind noise and drag that's commonly associated with roof racks. Now, depending on what kind of accessories you have, there is a T-track slot accessory on the top. Now, unlike a lot of other ones where you have to take out the rubber strip, cut it to length, and figure out all of that, this one, we're able to flip down to the cap and we can actually just push down on that rubber weather stripping and slide our accessory in, making it a lot easier and less of a hassle trying to cut everything. We have the 50-inch long crossbars on our Subaru here and on the front, we have about two inches of overhang on each side. Then if we move to the back, it's a little bit more. It's about two-and-a-half inches of overhang. Now, if you want a little bit more room to mount some more accessories, there are those longer bars available.

You want to make sure you don't exceed the weight capacity of the crossbar or of your roof.As far as our Malone AirFlow2, the 50-inch, 58-inch, and 65-inch crossbars are all going to have 165-pound weight capacity. One thing to keep in mind whenever you are mounting accessories to your roof rack is the amount of clearance that you have between your roof and the bar itself. From the top of the roof to the bottom of our crossbar is going to be about three-and-a-half inches. We've got plenty of room here for most accessories and our sunroof even isn't going to interfere at all.You just want to be mindful of your sunroof when you do have accessories mounted, but with nothing on there, it's not going to interfere at all. The overall height of our crossbar from the top of our roof to the top of the bar is going to be right at four-and-a-half inches.

If you're looking for a roof rack system for your Forester, a Malone AirFlow2 is going to be a really good option. It's going to have a lot of those nice features that some of the high-end ones do while still being a user-friendly entry level product. We already have our front bar installed. Let's go ahead and put the second one on together. Now, fortunately, they already come preassembled, so all we're going to have to do is loosely put it on our roof, making sure that we get around the crossbar. Now, there's no exact measurement of where you want your bar to be, but you want a minimum crossbar spread of 27-and-a-half inches.I'm just going to take a tape measure and go from the center of my front foot pack to the center of the rear foot pack and 27-and-a-half is actually going to land right here at this upright support, so we're going to come right behind it, which is going to make it 32 inches between our two crossbars. We'll go to the other side and make sure that it's nice and even so our bars will be nice and square.

Now, on the end of our foot pack, we are going to have a locking core. We can take the included key and unlock it. Each bar is going to have an included tightening tool inside the foot pack. Before we tighten everything down, we want to make sure we get our overhang even on each side. The easiest way to do that, just go ahead and pull your bar all the way to one side. We're going to take a tape measure and we're going to measure the overhang. Then we can divide it by two and then we can check the other side to make sure it is even.If look on the inside of our foot pack, we're going to have a little Allen bolt in there and our tightening tool's going to fit. We're just going to tighten it up until it's snug and it's grabbing the bar evenly. You may want to push down just slightly, start tightening it until it gets a little snug, and then we can move to the other side. Make sure it tightens even and the bar doesn't shift on us.Once we have our bar snug, we can come back and tighten it up all the way. You just want to make sure that the bar's nice and secure on there, but you don't need to go crazy cranking down to where you feel like you're going to snap something. Then our tightening tool, if we go right above that Allen bolt, you can slide it in and it'll store inside our foot pack. Now, you might notice that that channel at the bottom there is open and that's so that our crossbar can slide back and forth and we can get an even overhang on each side. In our kit, it does come with some weather stripping that we can cut to length and put it in there, which will reduce the wind noise and whistling sounds, but for demonstration purposes, we're not going to be putting them in.That'll finish up your look at the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack System, part number MPG215 on our 2015 Subaru Forester.

I got the Malone Roof Rack Crossbars last night and just put them on. First of all, thank you etrailer for such great service. They must have been shipped an hour after I ordered them. They are great and beautiful. They far exceeded my expectations in quality and looks. They look like they belong on the jeep. They were very reasonably priced in my opinion, and I don't know how you could improve them for more money. Definitely 5 stars. 518163

Easy to install-thank-goodness because we were ready to add our kayaks and go (97 heat index) Nick from etrailer said the rails would work on our ‘99 Tahoe and they fit perfectly and have adjustable spacing. We did have three black rubber pieces that look like protectors of some kind- couldn’t find anything in the directions on how/where to use them. Not worried about it for our ‘99 Tahoe - it has been well used! If it ever dies tho I guess I’ll have to figure out how to use the rubber protectors on a newer car. 522193

I recently purchased the Malone Airflow2 Aerobar Roof Rack For Raised Rails- 65 in and extremely impressed with it. Pros: I wanted to lengthen my bars so that I could place my Thule Motion XL Cargo Box on and my Thule Universal Pull Top ski rack on top of it. It was a perfect fit. It was absolutely quiet on my 700+ mile drive up to Mammoth, CA and back. It handled the severe cross winds on HWY 395 while campers, big rigs, and motorhomes had to pull over on the side of the road until the winds died down by Cal Trans. This cross bar gives me more options for my gear. I can put surf boards side by side as well. I can place 2 kayaks on top. For the price compared to Thule and Yakima, it is score. I highly recommend it. Customer Service was great to help answer my questions regarding the set up. Cons: It took some time putting it on my roof rails. The bars did not slide onto the mounting device (clamping device) well. There is a metal T shape that has a groove to slide the bar through. If it is not aligned properly then the bar will not slide through and across. As I tried to fix this problem the bolt came out of the housing from the clamping device and I spent 1hr trying to put it back through because there is a spring and bolt inside the clamping device. Super frustrating when the manual does not discuss this problem. It also does not describe which direction the bars face. Important to know for best aerodynamics during travel. The instructions were not very clear. The bar ends caps were not very secure so I glued them on the bar ends and wrapped electrical tape on them as well to secure them. Enjoy the photos and hope that it demonstrates how well this system works. If you have lots of gear, this is your perfect choice. 728681

The Malone roof rack (MPG 217) I purchased works great and looks good. I ordered the 65 inch rack to get some extra overhang on my 2019 Subaru Ascent so that when loading kayaks my wife and I can lift straight up.The racks make a slight hum when driving at speeds of 60+ mph but it is not noticeable if the radio is on or if the AC is running. The end caps seem to fit loosely. Afraid that they might fall out, I used some HVAC aluminum tape to hold them on tightly. Hardly notice the tape. The people at etrailer were very helpful when ordering and when tracking the order. I ordered the rack on Friday, Sept. 20. I arrived on Thursday, Sept. 26. I am very happy with the way the rack is attached and the price I paid at etrailer 716873

A few hiccups with missing parts in the sealed box from Malone however etrailer made it all better. I haven't had a chance to haul anything yet but structurally and cosmetically this rack seems to be an awesome value considering it is less than half of what a Yakima or Thule costs and this rack includes the locks which are an option for the top two just mentioned. I'm very happy so far and I'm not easy to please. 505782

The roof rack is solid and still going strong...in my garage. Unfortunately the 2010 Ford Edge was not as solid and the roof racks are awaiting the next vehicle. Thanks for the follow-up and have a great day! [Thumbs up] 719514

1ST time user of etrailer. Extreamly happy with the product that I ordered. The reason you were chosen by me was word of mouth through my son-in-law, and then ease of use of your site. 705343

My SUV now has Utility!! Added the racks so I could transport purchases from my local home improvement stores. Not using any carriers (bike, kayak). The kit was easy to install, looks great! Is quiet (unlike comparably priced square tubbing), and includes rubber that should keep my rails from getting scratched. I prefer a straight across profile over the curved versions that cost 2-3x more. Highly recommend. . 693723

Our objective is to carry a 16' canoe. etrailer was quite helpful in advising on cross-bar options for our 2015 Toyota Sienna minivan. The Malone cross bars were a good value and fit onto our factory installed roof rails. Also, their measurement was sufficiently accurate that the minivan is able to clear entry into our garage. We will be going back to etrailer for advice on which support system to use with the Malone cross bars. 544461

Review from a similar Malone AirFlow2 in Roof Rack

I am overall happy with this product and the aero design is quiet on the road. I do not like the large feet that get attached to the factory roof racks and their large size does not allow my Yakima kayak carriers to straddle over the feet. The locking mechanism is also giving me problems as the key gets stuck trying to get past the security cover piece on the lock. I attempted to lubricate it but will still get stuck occasionally. The allen wrench device is a pain for installing the bars since you cannot turn it 360 degrees without hitting the bottom side of the bar and mandates removing the wrench and starting back at the other side. I would recommend getting same brand products to avoid the issues I'm having and not try to mix one brand bars with another brand rack/carrier. 567558

Comments
I have been satisfied so far but have removed the locking mechanism since it gave me trouble and the key would get stuck. The blade style gives a slight whistle at higher speeds but was expected.

Review from a similar Malone AirFlow2 in Roof Rack

Pretty slick looking, and fairly easy to install on a 2018 Subaru Forester. No problems inserting the rubber trim into the slot on the underside of the crossbars. I haven't yet driven it above 50 mph (just installed them this afternoon) but so far no noise issues. I also haven't mounted any kind of equipment rack to the crossbars, so I can't speak to the T-slot functionality yet. One tip - be sure the plastic end cap is pushed onto the rail far enough for the release tab to click into the square hole inside the rail end. It can feel like it's pushed on all the way, but the tab must engage or it's not secure. Give it a solid tug to test it - sure would suck for it to come flying off on the highway somewhere. 529106

Have Malone Airflow 2 crossbars. Fit well and hold everything in place. Can’t complain. Bought them for the price, nothing fancy. Take them off in winter. Takes forever to manually screw them on tight. Expected that. If you don’t get the rubber gasket things in place perfectly under the crossbars as instructed they whistle as you drive. Don’t lose the keys! 690759

I am reluctant to leave a review before I actually use them, but I wanted to go ahead and leave a review on ease of setup. It took me less than 10 minutes to install the bars and they appear to be well made. We'll see once I start hauling my kayak around this spring. 493800

Easy to assemble and look good. Happy with the price. As other reviewers said, watch the end caps, there is extra plastic on the odd locking tab that needs to be trimmed so they will stay on. The manufacturer should look at fixing the mold for this. Etrailer experience was excellent. 553440

Rack working well. Only minor issue is that the small plastic covers on the ends of the racks that cover up the securing bolts tend to pop open when I pull my kayak off the rack. Would be better if those covers were hinged at the top versus the bottom and opened in the upward direction. Probably a matter of time before they get ripped off. 565877

After owning the product for a year, it has been great. We have moved across the country with it and the rack has been fantastic! We put a rooftop box on the rails and it did wonderfully. I now have a bike rack on it and again, fantastic. The rails are super sturdy and there is hardly any flex. There havent been any tears in the rubber strips or any other damage I have seen. They have been removed and reinstalled a few times with no issues. Bugs clean off of it pretty easily also. I would easily make this purchase again if this set ever needs to be replaced.

Previous owner and heavy user of roof racks including Yakima round bars on 3 vehicles, Thule aero bars (2) and factory roof racks on Toyota 4Runner and Highlander. First Malone product. Took about 45 minutes to place on a Rav4. Construction materials are solid but just a hair below Thule and Yakima. Ease of installation was as good or better than previous racks. Value was by far the greatest asset that Malone offers. Once installed, the racks feel solid, only a hint of additional road noise on the way to work this morning. Full test with two sup boards on a 200 mile round trip this weekend. 551807

Quick service product built very well haven’t driven with the kayaks on it yet but feels very secure. The only thing I would change is once you get everything aligned I wish the brackets would stay where they are at on the bars but as soon as you loosen to remove them the brackets move. 529492

The Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack part # MPG216 will look better while installed on your 2018 Volvo XC90 when compared to the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack part # MPG217 because the crossbars will be 7" shorter overall and 3.5" shorter on each side. They will both however work just fine with a rooftop cargo box like the Malone Profile18B Rooftop Cargo Box part # MPG911. The only time you would want to go with the longer option is if you were using the roof rack to transport multiple water-sport...

The Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack - Aero Crossbars - Raised, Factory Side Rails - Aluminum - 65" Long # MPG217 you asked about will absolutely fit rails that are 1-1/4 inches thick. I went out to the warehouse and the clamps will be compatible down to 3/4 inch diameter bars.

  • Recommended Roof Rack and Cargo Basket to Fit a 2005 Honda Pilot with Raised Rails
What you have right now on your 2005 Honda Pilot's roof are raised side rails. You need to add crossbars for a complete roof rack. I recommend the Malone AirFlow2 racks. You can use either the 58 inch bars, part # MPG216 or the 65 inch bars, part # MPG217. Then for a roof basket I like the RockyMounts 14'er, part # RKY1054, because it includes a fairing and a cargo net. I've linked videos of both the rack and basket for you to take a look at as well.

  • Will the Thule Hullavator Fit a 2017 Jeep Cherokee
The Thule Hullavator # TH898 requires roof rack crossbars that extend out past the mounting feet or side rails by 4 to 8 inches. The factory roof rack on your 2017 Jeep Cherokee, if equipped, will not have bars that extend out past the feet. If your Cherokee does not have the factory roof rack then you can add one that will be compatible with the Hullavator. For a Cherokee with a naked roof (no bars or rails) you can use Rhino-Rack bars # RRVA150B-2, feet # RRRLKVA, and fit kit # DK398....

  • Roof Rack for 2018 Nissan Rogue With Raised Roof Rails
We can help you with an aftermarket roof rack that can be fitted to your 2018 Nissan Rogue that has raised roof rails. All compatible rack systems for your Rogue are shown on the page I linked for you but I can offer some specific recommendations too. Among the most popular options is the Thule AeroBlade Edge roof rack # TH7502B-TH7502B. The reason this rack is so popular is that is offers an appearance much like a very expensive OEM roof rack from the dealerships, but at a fraction...

  • Recommended Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier System for 3 Kayaks on Mini Van With Raised Side Rails
For your mini van with standard roof rack, I assume you are referencing that you have the raised side rails and no crossbars since you were wondering what you need. You will need to have crossbars for your kayaks, so I recommend the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack # MPG217 which has bars 65 inches long, the 58 inch long # MPG216, or the 50 inch long # MPG215 depending on your roof width. Without knowing your mini van year/make/model, you will need to determine the best fit and remember the...

  • Roof Rack for 2003 Honda Pilot that Allows Two Thule Hullavator Pros to Fit
Two Hullavator Pros part # TH898 could fit on your 2003 Honda Pilot and it would be a matter of picking out a longer set of crossbars. For that the best option is the Malone Roof Rack part # MPG217 which has 65 inch long crossbars that are confirmed to fit your Pilot and work great with the Hullavator. Each Hullavator will take up 31 inches of bars space so a 65 inch long bar would easily have room for two. Be sure to check roof rack capacity of your vehicle as well!

  • Malone Roof Rack Recommendation for 2018 Nissan Rogue with Raised Side Rails
Malone does offer a roof rack similar to the one you referenced as a confirmed fit for your 2018 Nissan Rogue if it had side rails. The only way to get those rails added to your vehicle though would be through a Nissan dealer. For a rack to attach to the rails that you'd want the part # MPG216 for 58 inch crossbars or # MPG217 for 65 inch. The kit you mentioned is shorter at 50 inch and is not recommended. The install is pretty simple actually and I think you'd have no problem with it....

The Rhino Rack RS 2500, part # RRRS519B is a confirmed fit for the 2013 Chevy Silverado 1500 crew cab without any existing rails or a factory roof rack. This part is an all-in-one kit, so you will only need the specified part number to install this rack. This kit is also available in silver as part # RRRS519.
