Video Transcript for A Closer Look at the Yakima HitchLock for Yakima Hitch Mounted Bike Racks

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today, we're gonna take a look at this Yakima HitchLock for the Yakima hitch mounted bike racks. This HitchLock is going to lock and secure your Yakima hitch mounted bike carrier to your vehicle's hitch receiver, ensuring the safety of your gear. Now, this is going to work with any Yakima hitch mounted bike carrier. And this will simply attach to the end of your existing Yakima hitch pin.

And I happen to have a Yakima hitch pin right here. So, this is gonna be very simple to use. You're just going to push the lock over the end of the pin until it clicks as you just heard there and then it is in place. And then to remove, you're just going to take one of the included keys and you are gonna get two keys. And just insert the key into the lock, give it a quarter of a turn, and it will slide right off.

Now, this lock includes Yakima's Same Key System or SKS locking core and as I mentioned, two keys. And what's nice about these SKS cores is they can be changed out and keyed alike with your other Yakima locks. This also has, as you can see, an attached dust cap and that is going to help keep the dirt and debris out of your lock. And this does have a lifetime warranty. Well, that's gonna conclude our brief look today.

I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me..

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2014 Toyota Tacoma
Both the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch # 13323 and the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch # 75236 would work well for you. These Class III trailer hitches have a 2 inch receiver, 5,000 pound max towing weight and 500 pound max tongue weight. For installation, both hitches require the bumper brackets to be loosed or removed. I would go with the Curt trailer hitch, as it is more economically friendly than Draw-Tite. The trailer hitch will bolt into existing weld nuts on your truck's frame....

  • Longer, Locking Hitch Pin Needed For A Yakima HookUp Bike Rack
Hey Eric, I spoke with Yakima and they unfortunately no longer offer a compatible hitch pin for the HookUp bike rack. Back when this was available there weren't double-walled trailer hitch receiver tubes so the pin length wasn't an issue. The only solution I can recommend would be to have a lock machine shop measure the thread pitch of your current hitch pin and cut you a new, longer hitch pin that would be compatible with their hitch lock # Y07235.

  • Locking Trailer Hitch Pin for Bike Rack on 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
The Curt hitch you purchased is part # C13272 which is a 2 inch receiver so the pin hole is 5/8 inches. A good standard lock to fit is part # e98880. With that being said, a lot of bike racks have threaded hitch pins so you can't use just a standard locking pin. Their threads are usually specific to their own locks so you might need to purchase a specific lock for your specific bike rack. If you let me know which bike rack you have I can help you with a specific locking pin.

  • Lost Keys for Lock on Yakima Doubledown and Need Replacements
Worst case scenario, I am going to assume that the hitch lock is the only Yakima lock that you have that used that key. If this is the case you will either need to have a locksmith pick the lock or you can try drilling it out. In this case you would then have to replace the lock with part # Y07235. If by chance you have another lock which used the same key and it is in the unlocked position, you could use Control Key, # Y8007835, to remove the lock core and obtain the number listed on...

  • What Bike Rack do You Recommend for My 60-Pound E-Bike on My 2013 Ford Focus?
I have a great solution for you for a bike rack with a ramp. Unfortunately, Saris does not make a ramp for the Saris MTY Bike Rack SA4031. We also do not have a bike rack that has a ramp for a single bike. With that being said, we do have a 2-bike option that comes with a ramp. For that route, I recommend the Yakima OnRamp # Y96FR (for 1-1/4" hitches) or the # Y88DJ (for 2-inch hitches). The great thing about the OnRamp in addition to the included ramp is that you will not have to purchase...

  • Availability Of Replacement Hitch Lock For Yakima BuckHorn Bike Rack
I have another option for you, but the Replacement Cable Lock # 8880572 you were looking at is only confirmed to fit the Yakima Fullback bike racks. Instead I recommend the Yakima HitchLock for Yakima Hitch Mounted Bike Racks # Y07235 which is confirmed to fit the Yakima BuckHorn Elite Bike Racks. This is the only version of the BuckHorn bike racks that has a replacement lock available. For the other component it sounds like you are asking about a replacement cradle. If that is the case...

  • What Bike Rack do You Recommend for a 2010 Lexus GS 350 SUV?
For a heavier (50 pound) electric bike that is easy to load on your vehicle, I recommend a hitch rack. For the rack itself, a great option is the Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 1-1/4" Hitches - Frame Mount # Y96FR. The OnRamp has a maximum per-bike weight capacity of 66-pounds per bike and includes an integrated ramp that allows for you to roll the bike onto the securing platform without lifting the bike off the ground. Another great feature of the OnRamp is the securing...

  • Hitch Pin and Hitch Lock Recommendation for Yakima Holdup
It sounds like you are looking for a locking hitch pin lock for a Yakima hitch bike rack. If you can let me know what bike rack you have I can give you the exact hitch lock for your bike rack as recommended by Yakima. I can't recommend the use of the Kuat with a Yakima rack.

  • What Kayak Rack and Bed Extender do You Recommend When Using the Access Lorado # A53VR?
Yes! You can use both a kayak rack and a truck bed extender on your 2021 Jeep Gladiator with the Trail Rail system. Since the Access Lorado Soft, Roll-Up Tonneau Cover # A53VR leaves the stake pockets completely open, you will be able to install a way to install a kayak rack like a stake-pocket mounted ladder rack. As long as the rack uses only the stake pockets without any clamps onto the bed rails, the rack is compatible with the cover. Since the Access Lorado rack is a roll-up style,...

  • What Hitch Pin Lock Fits the Yakima LongArm Truck Bed Load Extender?
Yes! If you have either the Yakima LongArm # Y01149-1150 or the # Y01149, the locking hitch pin you need is the Yakima HitchLock for Yakima Hitch Mounted Bike Racks - Same Key System # Y07235. This hitch lock attaches to the hitch bolt that comes with the LongArm. If you need the replacement hitch bolt itself, that is the # Y8890200.

  • Can Yakima LongArm Truck Bed Extender Handle Carrying Drywall
One sheet of 4-1/2 foot x 10 foot drywall that is 1/2 inch thick weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 75 lbs (give or take), and the Yakima extender has a 300 lb capacity so it can absolutely handle at least a few sheets at a time. So you can definitely use the LongArm, which is the following part number: - Yakima LongArm Truck Bed Load Extender # Y01149 The LongArm # Y01149 does not have load stops, but does have integrated tie down points at the edge of the crossbars. The MaxxTow Hitch Receiver Lock for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - 2-3/4" Span - Black # MT38FR is a great option for ball mounts and other accessories that do not have a threaded anti-rattle. Your Yakima bike rack will have a threaded hitch pin that will accept the Yakima HitchLock for Yakima Hitch Mounted Bike Racks - Same Key System (SKS) # Y07235. If you need a replacement hitch pin as well for your Yakima Rack, let me know what rack you have and I'd be happy to assist.

  • Should Cable Lock be Added to Yakima BackRoad if Only Carrying 2 Bike
That's a good catch, and when only carrying a pair of bikes, if you want to keep them secure it is definitely a good idea to add a separate cable lock to go with the Yakima BackRoad 4-Bike Rack # YA44FR. The cable lock that comes integrated with the # YA44FR is for the fourth bike (furthest from the vehicle) so to secure just two bikes you can use a standard cable lock with a key, the etrailer Cable Lock # e98891, or if you don't want an extra key then go with a combination cable lock,...

  • What to Do if You Lose a Key for a Yakima Rack or Lock Set
If you wrote down the key number somewhere you could order a set of replacement keys for your Yakima DeadLock. Or if the cylinder is in the unlocked position you could use a control key part # Y8007835 to remove the lock core and install a new set like part # Y07202. If the key is locked and you do not have the original key number you will need to find a locksmith who will pick the lock for you.

  • Will etrailer e99047 Hitch Lock Work with Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack
The threads of the etrailer # e99047 aren't compatible with Yakima bike racks. You'd need to use the Yakima HitchLock, part # Y07235 which would lock to the threaded # Y8890200 hitch pin included with the bike rack.

  • What Hitch do You Recommend to Use the Yakima OnRamp # Y36FR on My 2015 Subaru Outback?
For a wider range of compatibility of accessories and greater overall stability, I recommend going with a 2" Class III hitch on your 2015 Subaru Outback. If you want a hitch with an easier installation, I recommend Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13206. Though there will be no drilling involved, you will need to lower the exhaust and spare tire for the install. As long as your spare is under 18", it will be able to fit right back into place as well.
