Plan your install with care—some locks protrude out the back, so make sure you have enough clearance behind the panel.

Use butyl tape or seal-putty during install and check that the lock holds the top of the door closed to help prevent water getting thrown into the compartment. If the door feels tight at first, a brief break-in period may help.
Installation is typically straightforward. Plan 30 minutes to an hour or so, depending on your setup. Some doors include hardware and seal-putty, and the packaging can work as a cutout template. Use butyl tape to seal and test-close the door before final tightening. If the included cam lock seems loose, upgrading to a lock secured with a nut can help it latch more securely.
These use simple cam locks, so some people swap to a more secure lock or one that matches other doors. Key codes can be standard, and there isn't a way to guarantee a specific key code. If you prefer no key, some doors come with a thumb lock while others only come with a key lock. Also check rear clearance—the lock can protrude out the back a considerable amount.
Measure the cutout and check rear clearance for the lock body since it can stick out quite a bit. If you're passing a heavy-duty cord through, look for a more rigid door to better handle repeated use. Before mounting, check that the door is aligned in the frame so it closes smoothly and latches tight.
