Features to know about

Safer towing, smarter setup

Hand on scale

If your trailer sways, or your truck feels light in the steering, or unsettled over bumps, your tongue weight could be off. This scale helps you dial it in before you hit the road. With a simple squeeze of the lever, you can adjust the height with one hand and lower the trailer with the other. Just set the foot in 2" steps, position it under the coupler, and crank your jack a couple inches. You'll get a clear, accurate reading in seconds. No math. No guesswork. Just a smoother, safer tow.

Stable, secure, and SnapPad ready

Hand holding SnapPad

Ever set up on gravel or grass and felt your rig teeter like it's one gust away from tipping? This scales wide steel foot stays planted, so you get accurate readings even when the ground's working against you. The built-in set screw holds the foot in place, so it doesn't drop out while you're dialing in the right height. If you're using 6" SnapPads, the base fits perfectly to give you extra grip when things get sketchy.

Easy-to-read gauge

Close-up of Gauge

No squinting, no second guessing. The large analog display shows tongue weight in 50-lb increments up to 2,000 lbs. It also shows tongue weight in tons, so you'll know right away if you're creeping up on your vehicle's limits.

Storage that holds up and stands out

Close-up of Bag

This weather-resistant bag proudly sports the BTBRV logo and is built for real towing life. Toss it in your truck bed, trailer, or back seat so it's out of the way. Tough seams hold up to regular use, and the roomy interior gives you space for gloves, adapters, or whatever else you need to keep close.

Tested, trusted, and JD approved

BTBRV Logo

This isn't just some random tool with a logo slapped on it. JD from Big Truck Big RV has spent years hauling, wrenching, and testing gear in the real world, and he only puts his name on the gear he actually uses. All BTBRV products go through the wringer before they make the cut. No BS. No gimmicks. Just reliable gear that does what it's supposed to when it matters most.

This scale takes the guesswork out of tongue weight. Works great and is easy to use and read. My owner's manual listed the tongue weight of my camper at approximately 600 pounds empty. I was estimating the loaded tongue weight at about 700 to 800 pounds. The actual loaded weight turned out to be 1100 pounds. Based on the scale I purchased heaver spring bars for my WD hitch. This made a big difference in towing comfort. I also take this to camping rallies I attend to help my fellow club members understand tongue weight compared to trailer weight and the effect loading camping equipment in the trailer effects the load on the hitch.

by:

great product, takes all the guess work out of trying figure out how to load your trailer for safe travels. proper Tongue weight IS very important I know from experience had an unfortunate jackknife mess years ago will not make that mistake again. Thanks for this great product I highly recommend....

by:

I bought this scale because my 2022 F-150 PowerBoost has an 850 lb hitch-weight limit, and I needed to be absolutely sure any trailer I purchased would be safe to tow. I used it on about a dozen new trailers at various dealers, and it consistently showed that the posted hitch weights were lower than the real numbers. Once you factor in full propane tanks and batteries, the actual hitch weight was usually around 10% higher than the sticker.
This tool ended up being essential. It helped me choose a properly weighted travel trailer for my truck, and it confirmed the final loaded hitch weight—fluids, gear and all—at 860 lbs, compared to the manufacturer’s posted 634 lbs. Because of this scale, I know I'm towing within limits, and the truck handles beautifully.
Highly recommended for anyone buying or loading a travel trailer; it takes the guesswork out of hitch weights and can save you from making an expensive mistake.

by:

etrailer, I don't recommend them, don't waste your money. I bought a 2000 lb tongue weight trailer scale and used it once, and I saw that it wasn't working properly. The second time I used it with a trailer that weighed 1200 lbs, it leaked oil and stopped working. I've been waiting for a response for days and days, but they don't offer a warranty. They keep telling me to wait for a response, but I haven't received one. I've lost my money.

by:

The granularity of the scale is very coarse so the weight is at best an approximation. The measured tongue weight of my trailer when empty far exceeds the manufacturer's spec, so I'm also not sure if I trust the calibration, if it was calibrated at all. I wish I'd never bought it.

by:

Assuming the readings are good within a reasonable margin of error, this is great. No more towing blind about hitch weight and I've been wondering . The closest scale is a 5 hour round trip from where I live. Partially loaded my trailer is 20% more than the advertised hitch weight.

Glad you could get some clarity in way less time than a 5 hour drive! Good to know what you're actually at, weight wise. Rearranging things on the trailer can help with TW, too. Sometimes, scooting things back and putting more weight back towards the axle of the trailer a bit can make a world of difference.

by:

Great concept for ease of use but inaccurate - showed c. 525lbs tongue weight on trailer when it was actually 625-650lbs per Sherline scale and CAT scale.

by:

Arrived well packaged. Looks like we are on target for our hitch weight.

by:

My new travel trailer was expected to have a loaded tongue weigh about 1,200 lbs., but to ensure the exact weight I purchased the BTBRV Tongue Weight Scale and I’m glad I did. The tongue weight came in at 1,700 lbs., and I was still well belt the GWVR of the trailer, but I exceeded the capacity of the weight distribution hitch requiring me to purchase the highest rated Blue Ox Sway Pro. The same thing happened when I asked my brother in law about his RV tongue weight and he too was about 400 lbs. higher in actual weight. A perfect device to ensure the safety of my family and other road users.

by:

The weight scale performed as advertised. It's easy to set up so I'll be using it frequently to ensure I have the proper tongue weight before traveling with the RV.

by:

Love the product, but the gauge is hard to read. Need a larger gauge for the 2k model. My setup is 1100 to 1200 pounds

by:

Works great but could be better. The shaft, even when fully extended, is still too short for my travel trailer if I want to keep the tongue level. I have to add at least a 2x6 under it. Would be nice if it was longer. The gauge is easy to read, and the unit seems to be quite accurate. Just wish it could handle a taller trailer more easily. Storage bag is nice touch that keeps it clean when not in use.

by:

This scale appears to be well made and it lets me dial in my trailer tongue without the guess work. Quick and easy set up. A small price to pay for a lot of peace of mind. Well with the price.

The trailer tongue scale continues to do its job and remains accurate. This was a good purchase because without it, was just guess work.

@Steve that's good to hear, I'm glad you like it. I need to get one since I'm always guessing on my car hauler when loading golfcarts for my side business haha.

etrailer service is awesome, I purchased a tongue trailer scale and when I open the package found the glass on the dial of the scale broken. I called service and they emailed me a prepaid return label and shipped me a replacement scale on Friday and I received it on the following Tuesday.
Thank you for the quick response.

by:

Nice tongue weight measure, quality, will last, very accurate

by:

This is a great device to ensure you are comfortably within the limits of your vehicles towing capacity. I have a dump trailer that I tow with my f150. At max load the trailer would be unsafe for me to tow, so I use this scale to monitor the load as I’m filling up the trailer. In the next year or so I will be upgrading to a 3/4 ton Pickup, in the mean time this was a much cheaper solution.

Worked once. Leaked after that. Thru it away.

I am shocked to hear this Eugene. This is our most used tongue scale here at the shop, and we don't have issues with it. I really wish you would have contacted us instead of throwing it away as it has a limited lifetime warranty.

Great product and excellent customer se rvice

by:

First time I ordered on etrailer, not my last for sure. Love the site as it finds the right equipment for the right vehicle. Delivery was right on time. Thanks to your team!

by:

Nothing to compare against, so I will have to trust its accuracy. Seems to work well, I was expecting around 750 lbs for my trailer tongue weight and that's exactly what it showed me. Build quality and finish are very nice.

by:

Tounge weight scale- Haven't used it yet, but it looks like it will do the intended job. I have a hitch extension under a slide-in truck camper that has a limited tounge weight. Packaging was excellent and delivery was timely.

by:

Easy to use. Took 2 minutes to set up.

by:

Very nice and easy to use.

by:

Glade I made the purchase. On past trailers I did the guessing game which usually worked out. My newest trailer is a toy hauler which the factory has placed holding tanks to adjust approx weights for one’s toys I’m suppressed at how well they’ve arranged the placements of storage tanks. Tho things will change when fresh water turn to gray and black. This tongue weight scale will now help with determining placement of my side by side.
Also helps figuring tongue weight when leaving the side by side home with out that added weight.
Again, glade I made the purchase great product
Gene

  • Is It Safe To Use A Weight Distribution Hitch That's Overrated For Your Trailer
Hi Stephen, If your weight distribution hitch is overrated for the tongue weight of the trailer then it will over-distribute the weight and start lifting both the trailer tongue and rear of the tow vehicle up. You'll notice handling issues while towing and the stiffer spring bars will be harder to get mounted to the frame brackets. To size your weight distribution hitch you'll want to first fully load your trailer like you would if you were going camping and then measure the tongue...

  • Will A 6,000 lb Weight Distribution Hitch Work For A 2,000 lb Trailer?
Hey John. The answer to your question really depends on what specific weight distribution (WD) system you are using. Many WD systems specify a tongue weight range that the hitch will work with. For example, the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BXW0750 will work on trailers with a tongue weight between 550 and 750 lbs. You will need to determine the tongue weight of your trailer and make sure it is within the specified range for your WD hitch. If you do not know your...

Hello Craig, I am sorry to hear that your first time pulling your 2023 Cougar 26RBS was not enjoyable. With any WDH is making sure you are using the correct spring bars. You can figure out which ones you need by determining your loaded tongue weight. To get an accurate measurement, I recommend using the Big Truck Big RV Tongue Weight Scale w/ Storage Bag for Trailers - 2,000 lbs # BTBRV44FR. Hey Steve! You're already on the right track with the Pole-Tongue Adapter for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems # EQ95-01-5950. This is exactly what you need to install a WDH on your boat trailer. Go ahead and measure 27" - 32" back from the hitch ball to make sure you have room to install the adapter.
