Features to know about

Safer towing, smarter setup

Hand on scale

If your trailer sways, or your truck feels light in the steering, or unsettled over bumps, your tongue weight could be off. This scale helps you dial it in before you hit the road. With a simple squeeze of the lever, you can adjust the height with one hand and lower the trailer with the other. Just set the foot in 2" steps, position it under the coupler, and crank your jack a couple inches. You'll get a clear, accurate reading in seconds. No math. No guesswork. Just a smoother, safer tow.

Stable, secure, and SnapPad ready

Hand holding SnapPad

Ever set up on gravel or grass and felt your rig teeter like it's one gust away from tipping? This scales wide steel foot stays planted, so you get accurate readings even when the ground's working against you. The built-in set screw holds the foot in place, so it doesn't drop out while you're dialing in the right height. If you're using 6" SnapPads, the base fits perfectly to give you extra grip when things get sketchy.

Easy-to-read gauge

Close-up of Gauge

No squinting, no second guessing. The large analog display shows tongue weight in 50-lb increments up to 2,000 lbs. It also shows tongue weight in tons, so you'll know right away if you're creeping up on your vehicle's limits.

Storage that holds up and stands out

Close-up of Bag

This weather-resistant bag proudly sports the BTBRV logo and is built for real towing life. Toss it in your truck bed, trailer, or back seat so it's out of the way. Tough seams hold up to regular use, and the roomy interior gives you space for gloves, adapters, or whatever else you need to keep close.

Tested, trusted, and JD approved

BTBRV Logo

This isn't just some random tool with a logo slapped on it. JD from Big Truck Big RV has spent years hauling, wrenching, and testing gear in the real world, and he only puts his name on the gear he actually uses. All BTBRV products go through the wringer before they make the cut. No BS. No gimmicks. Just reliable gear that does what it's supposed to when it matters most.

Nothing to compare against, so I will have to trust its accuracy. Seems to work well, I was expecting around 750 lbs for my trailer tongue weight and that's exactly what it showed me. Build quality and finish are very nice.

by:

Assuming the readings are good within a reasonable margin of error, this is great. No more towing blind about hitch weight and I've been wondering . The closest scale is a 5 hour round trip from where I live. Partially loaded my trailer is 20% more than the advertised hitch weight.

Glad you could get some clarity in way less time than a 5 hour drive! Good to know what you're actually at, weight wise. Rearranging things on the trailer can help with TW, too. Sometimes, scooting things back and putting more weight back towards the axle of the trailer a bit can make a world of difference.

Tounge weight scale- Haven't used it yet, but it looks like it will do the intended job. I have a hitch extension under a slide-in truck camper that has a limited tounge weight. Packaging was excellent and delivery was timely.

by:

Glade I made the purchase. On past trailers I did the guessing game which usually worked out. My newest trailer is a toy hauler which the factory has placed holding tanks to adjust approx weights for one’s toys I’m suppressed at how well they’ve arranged the placements of storage tanks. Tho things will change when fresh water turn to gray and black. This tongue weight scale will now help with determining placement of my side by side.
Also helps figuring tongue weight when leaving the side by side home with out that added weight.
Again, glade I made the purchase great product
Gene

This is a really nice tongue weight scale and make towing a lot safer especially when you are getting close to your payload! Know before you tow! Thanks BTBRV and etrailer for developing this.

by:

I've used this scale once and do not plan to use it again, so please understand I can't speak to the longevity or durability. This scale worked perfectly for my needs. It took less than a minute to find out my "910lb dry" tongue weight was real world 1,200lbs with equipment, propane, etc. I wish I had bought this immediately after I bought my new travel trailer.

by:

Seems to work well. I was surprised by the tongue weight it registered first time I used it. Requires a level area so had to wait to use it until I was on a campground pad because my driveway is on a slope.

by:

Worked as advertised. I received this tongue weight scale in a few days. It is easy to use and provides me with the exact tongue weight when I want to check it.

by:

The scale works well. The only reason I don't give it 5 starts is because the background of the gauge is black and it is difficult to read. I white background would be much better. Another point is the position of the gauge. It is vertical and it is inconvenient. It should be either in a 45 degree angle facing upward or horizontal facing upward, so it can be easily read. Otherwise, it is a well built product that worth the money.

by:

Works great! Never knew what my trailer tongues weighed.

by:

I have used the scale a couple of times and it functions as advertised. It is easy to use, easy to read, and stable when used as instructed. ETrailer's service was excellent, as usual.

by:

This has taken a lot of weight off my mind knowing I can get my tongue weight anytime I want to…

by:

Looking forward to finding out what the tongue weight is on my RV and boat trailer. I believe checking with the BTBRV will help me distribute the loads correctly and get the correct amount of weight on the tongue.

by:

It's nice to know hitch weight every trip out. Shows consistently 970lbs +- a few based on each load out so I'm never over per trailer limitations

by:

Lots of great features. Easily adjustable height makes it easy to engage with the trailer. It is so important to know your tongue weight for safe towing, most people don't.

by:

Very practical and easy to use! Storage bag is a plus.

by:

It took longer to deliver due to the manufacturer, but should be good product for my customer.

by:

A better way to weigh the tongue weight since it is adjustable. It is still just a bit short in full extension for my trailer, so I had to put a block under it to be long enough. It is still much better than using the short 6" style I have and trying to find enough blocks to make it tall enough to weigh my unit.
Very happy with this purchase and glad it included a storage bag.

by:

This tool works as expected, is easy to use, and is well built.
Carry bag is OK but I suggest making some padding for the inside to protect the gauge from getting banged up and damaged.

by:

This gauge is great - it comes with an adjustable support. I don't have to find a block or stool to support it - like my old gauge.

by:

Nice product. Arrived in good shape as expected. YouTube videos are pretty accurate. I'm going to weigh my trailers soon.

by:

So simple to use and gives you valuable information as to how you are setup for towing.

by:

Made obtaining our tongue weight on our travel trailer very easy.

by:

I got a chance to use this, and am a big fan of the lever allowing you to very quickly adjust the height of the scale to match your trailer. Other tongue weight scales I've used required finding blocks/wood scraps to build up to try and keep the trailer level when getting the reading. The tongue weight I got seemed about what I expected it to be, though I did not double check with a CAT scale or anything to verify the accuracy. Checking it multiple times on the same trailer did result in the same measurement, so that's a good sign on the gauge used!

by:

Well made, easy to use. I appreciate being able to measure tongue weight at the working height of the coupler, and not need to block up the scale to get there.

  • Is It Safe To Use A Weight Distribution Hitch That's Overrated For Your Trailer
Hi Stephen, If your weight distribution hitch is overrated for the tongue weight of the trailer then it will over-distribute the weight and start lifting both the trailer tongue and rear of the tow vehicle up. You'll notice handling issues while towing and the stiffer spring bars will be harder to get mounted to the frame brackets. To size your weight distribution hitch you'll want to first fully load your trailer like you would if you were going camping and then measure the tongue...

Hi Michael; the Escape 17B uses a Dexter Torflex axle but you will have to identify which one. This can be found on the axle tag. Once you have identified the axle you can choose from the following: -Torflex Lift Kit # K71-723-01 (#9 Torflex with 7-3/4" bolt hole spacing) -Torflex Lift Kit # K71-707-01 (#10 Torflex with 8" bolt hole spacing) -Torflex Lift Kit # DX56CR (#11 Torflex with 9-1/2" bolt hole spacing) If I had to guess it is a #10 Torflex but the only way to know for sure...

  • Will A 6,000 lb Weight Distribution Hitch Work For A 2,000 lb Trailer?
Hey John. The answer to your question really depends on what specific weight distribution (WD) system you are using. Many WD systems specify a tongue weight range that the hitch will work with. For example, the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BXW0750 will work on trailers with a tongue weight between 550 and 750 lbs. You will need to determine the tongue weight of your trailer and make sure it is within the specified range for your WD hitch. If you do not know your...

Hello Craig, I am sorry to hear that your first time pulling your 2023 Cougar 26RBS was not enjoyable. With any WDH is making sure you are using the correct spring bars. You can figure out which ones you need by determining your loaded tongue weight. To get an accurate measurement, I recommend using the Big Truck Big RV Tongue Weight Scale w/ Storage Bag for Trailers - 2,000 lbs # BTBRV44FR. Hey Steve! You're already on the right track with the Pole-Tongue Adapter for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems # EQ95-01-5950. This is exactly what you need to install a WDH on your boat trailer. Go ahead and measure 27" - 32" back from the hitch ball to make sure you have room to install the adapter. Also, if this is an aluminum trailer I recommend checking with the manufacturer to make sure it can handle using a weight distribution hitch. Equal-i-zer makes one of the best systems...

  • How Level Should the Ground be When Using the Big Truck Big RV Tongue Weight Scale?
Hello Dan, To get an accurate reading I would be no more than 2 degrees while using the Big Truck Big RV Tongue Weight Scale w/ Storage Bag for Trailers - 2,000 lbs # BTBRV44FR. The main reason you don't want to go over 2 degrees is because of weight distribution; If the ground is uneven, the trailer may shift slightly which will result in you not getting an accurate. What are you trying to get an accurate reading on, and what for?

Greetings Tim; when you choose a WDH you want to go off of the tongue weight of your loaded setup. The best way to find this is to measure with a scale like the # BTBRV44FR. Since you provided the specs for your trailer we can take a guess to help find the right system. Tongue weight is typically 10-15% of the loaded trailer weight. We know your dry tongue weight is 890 lbs. Factor in batteries and propane and you're already adding about 100 lbs so close to 1,000 lbs unloaded. At the high...

There is so much that goes into pricing that I won't be able to answer as to why it doesn't cost as much as the Big Truck Big RV Tongue Weight Scale # BTBRV44FR, but I can say I really like the idea of a digital scale because it just makes reading the numbers easier.

You can do this with a tongue weight scale # BTBRV44FR or you can measure using a highway weigh station. Next you'll need to measure to see what size drop shank you need. To do this you'll measure down to the ground from the top of the inside of the trailer hitch receiver tube. On the trailer you'll...

Hi Jason; it looks like your 2022 Yukon towing capacity is 7,500-7,900 lbs so I'm not surprised you're getting that rear sag. The best solution is going to be a weight distribution hitch. This will keep you level and also help reduce trailer sway for a much improved towing experience. • Is Vehicle Curb Weight or GVWR Added to Car Hauler When the Vehicle is Loaded up
Hey Michael, great question! The weight you will add to the car hauler is what the vehicle weighs at that point in time. So, if the car is cleaned out and has a half tank of gas or less then you can go with the curb weight, but if you have the vehicle loaded down to the max GVWR then you'll go by that weight. The GVWR is the max that the vehicle can safely weigh and this number includes things like a full tank of gas, a full load of passengers, and some cargo so any weight that you're...
