Availability of Lift Kit for Escape 17B Travel Trailer

Updated 12/10/2024 | Published 11/13/2024

Question:

I have an Escape 17 B 2 travel trailer. Single axle with 14 inch rims and a dexter suspension. Do you sell a lift kit for this trailer. I understand it will help lift the tanks level with the axle and helps with towing

Hi Michael; the Escape 17B uses a Dexter Torflex axle but you will have to identify which one. This can be found on the axle tag. Once you have identified the axle you can choose from the following:

-Torflex Lift Kit # K71-723-01 (#9 Torflex with 7-3/4" bolt hole spacing)

-Torflex Lift Kit # K71-707-01 (#10 Torflex with 8" bolt hole spacing)

-Torflex Lift Kit # DX56CR (#11 Torflex with 9-1/2" bolt hole spacing)

If I had to guess it is a #10 Torflex but the only way to know for sure is to look at the axle tag.

Hi Robin Thanks for responding. What am I looking for on the axle tag...a model #. Should I just take a photo and sent it to you?

@MichaelI you can take a picture and send it by responding to the email that brought you to the answer page but I expect it will be really obvious when you take a look. #9, #10, #11 will be printed on the tag. If it isn't then Dexter can always identify it with the serial number.

@RobinH Hi Robin Its me again. I do think it's a #10. I am going to spell out what is on the tag on the cause I can't figure out how to attach the photos I took this morning. From the top of the tag on the axle to the bottom it reads as follows: Dexter (CN215): Swift Current Swift Current , SK S9H 5J8 Dexter 50717707 Plant 62 PO:10287 DEX# 50717704 #10 Capacity 3500LBS Due : 2024-06-27 ORD:491425-8 HF =68.00 OB=53.00 10DT 6 27 24 S1 L4 S/N 625519646007 Nev-R-ADJUST 7 of 10 After that there is a barcode Ok that should give you enough info to recommend the lift kit. Another question. This trailer has 14" rims. By putting on the lift kit could I go to 15" rims? Does the torsion axle model determine the size of the wheel? This trailer rides low and I am trying to improve clearance and basically bring it up closer to the level of the frame on the tow vehicle which is a Toyota Tacoma. I just towed this trailer from Canada to Oregon. It feels funny. I've driven a few trailers before but don't recall one feeling this loose, bouncy and noisey other than a U-haul I rented in college. I'm going to adjust the knuckle on the trailer that attaches to the hitch ball. That could be a bit loose. I am also going to use one of those hitch clamps that takes the slack out of where the hitch assembly fits into the two inch receiver at the back of the truck. But the porpoising of the trailer-bouncy- is kinda weird. I will check the tongue weight also, I am aware of the 10-15% rule. Hopping to avoid a weight distribution hitch. The truck has the trailering package and a computerized anti sway system Thanks for your help and advice Michael

@MichaelI yes it is a #10 so you need the K71-707-01 listed above. You might be able to get bigger wheels and tires on there with the lift, you just need to make sure you have enough clearance. You should have 2" on the inside and 3" on top at a minimum so you will have to compare the larger tires to what you have now to be sure. Axle model doesn't really determine wheel and tire size, but the available hubs can restrict your options based on bolt pattern. You probably have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern now so there are a lot of 15" options available. I would do what you said and adjust the coupler and use an anti-rattle like # RM-061. Measuring your tongue weight with a scale like # BTBRV44FR is also a good idea just to be sure it is loaded properly. I really don't think a weight distribution hitch will be necessary with a smaller trailer like yours.
