Weight Distribution Hitch For Boat Trailer With Pole Tongue

Question:

Hi, i need a weight distribution hitch made for boat trailers. My boat weights around 5,300lbs and it has surge brakes. My trailer only has one beam that extends to the truck, meaning it does not Y like most camper trailer frames. The Y is very far back from the hitch. Do you have any products that would work for me? I would also be backing up when I use this hitch. Do I need a Pole-Toughe Adapter? Thank you

Hey Steve! You're already on the right track with the Pole-Tongue Adapter for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems # EQ95-01-5950. This is exactly what you need to install a WDH on your boat trailer. Go ahead and measure 27" - 32" back from the hitch ball to make sure you have room to install the adapter. Also, if this is an aluminum trailer I recommend checking with the manufacturer to make sure it can handle using a weight distribution hitch.

Equal-i-zer makes one of the best systems available and you can back up with it installed. Choosing the correct WDH will depend on your tongue weight. I don't know the weight of your trailer but I'm guessing it is something like 1,000 - 1,500 lbs. Tongue weight is typically 10-15% of your loaded trailer weight. Adding in the 5,300 lb boat the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37100ET is likely the right fit.

This system is designed for a setup with 600 lbs - 1,000 lbs of tongue weight. Based on the weights above you should be somewhere in that range. To be sure, I recommend measuring your tongue weight with a scale like the # BTBRV44FR. You will also need the 1-7/8" 12pt Thin Walled Socket # ALL643216 for hitch ball installation.

If you have any additional questions, or if I'm way off with your trailer weight, let me know in the comments below.

@Steve the # FA94-00-0600 does allow backing up. However, the tongue weight range is significantly lower at 400 lbs - 600 lbs. If your tongue weight falls into that range then this would work. Also, these are made by Equal-i-zer so the quality is there just less sway control. The # FA94-00-0800 is the next size up at 400 lbs - 800 lbs of tongue weight so that may be a better fit.
