Weight Distribution Hitch for 2024 Cherokee Grey Wolf

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/01/2024

Question:

We are first time owners of a 2024 Cherokee Grey Wolf Hitch weight: 450 lb. UVW is 4053 lb. GVWR 7450 lb. CCC 3397 pounds. We will be towing it with a 2015 Toyota Tundra. We hoped to get one with no chains so its not a pain to put on, and we get it fitted correctly. Thank you for any help you can give us.

Hello Dita; it sounds like you have the 2024 Cherokee Grey Wolf 20RDSE and you're looking for a weight distribution hitch. When you choose a WDH you want to base it off of the tongue weight of your loaded setup. The best way to find this is with a tongue weight scale like the # BTBRV44FR. However, since we have the specs of your trailer we can make a pretty good guess.

Tongue weight is typically 10-15% of the loaded trailer weight. This means if you're sitting at the GVWR it will be 745-1,117 lbs of tongue weight. Realistically, I don't think it will be over 1,000 and you probably won't be maxing out the weight of the travel trailer. On the low end, you have a dry hitch weight of 450 lbs. This does not include batteries or propane so once you add those in you're probably pushing 600 lbs unloaded.

Based on these numbers I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37100ET. Equal-i-zer makes a great, reliable system considered by many to be the best. The tongue weight range for this WDH is 600-1,000 lbs so you're going to be covered at the high and low end with the trailer.

The only reason I see you needing a different rating is if you're carrying a lot in your truck bed. The weight of anything behind your rear axle also counts as tongue weight. If you plan to carry a lot of additional cargo in the Tundra whenever you tow the trailer you may need the # EQ37120ET instead with an 800-1,200 lb range. Then again, if you make sure any significant weight is in front of the rear axle you won't have to worry about it.

Hey Dita, how did the Equal-i-zer weight distribution hitch work out with your Cherokee Grey Wolf and Tundra? Did it give you the smoother towing experience you were hoping for without the hassle of chains? Your update could make it easier for other first-time owners setting up a similar rig.
