Question:
Greetings I have a new TT and tow vehicle. TT specs UVW (lbs.) 9,242, GVWR (lbs.) 11,495 and Hitch (lbs.) 890 I’ll be towing with 2021 F350 (dual rear wheels) with 6.7 power stroke. (Truck has 3” receiver) I see many WD hitches at 12k rating. Should I use one of those or go to 16k? Can you recommend a WD hitch and Sway control? Tim

Greetings Tim; when you choose a WDH you want to go off of the tongue weight of your loaded setup. The best way to find this is to measure with a scale like the # BTBRV44FR. Since you provided the specs for your trailer we can take a guess to help find the right system.
Tongue weight is typically 10-15% of the loaded trailer weight. We know your dry tongue weight is 890 lbs. Factor in batteries and propane and you're already adding about 100 lbs so close to 1,000 lbs unloaded. At the high end you're looking at 1,150 lbs - 1724 lbs. More than likely you won't be loading it to the max, and 15% isn't very common. It will probably be more like 12-13% depending on how you load the trailer.
Based on this information I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37140ET. Equal-i-zer is widely considered the best in the business. Their systems are reliable and effective. This particular WDH has a tongue weight range of 1,000 lbs -1,400 lbs which will likely have you covered when you're loaded and unloaded.
If you plan on keeping your trailer close to the GVWR, and you also carry a lot behind the rear axle of your truck (this counts as tongue weight as well), then you may need the # EQ64FR instead. This has a tongue weight range of 1,200 lbs - 1,600 lbs.
I see you also looked at some 3" shanks for weight distribution. You can get one if you want but a better choice would be the Curt Hitch Receiver Reducer Sleeves # C45408. This will save you some money and allow you to use a 2-1/2" or 2" shank like the one that comes with the Equal-i-zer system. A sleeve like this will not reduce the capacity of your hitch.
