I've had the new suspension on my trailer (20' flat bed) for about a year now with no problems, I tow a race car to about 20 to 25 events a year. All the parts fit perfect and are holding up well. Next on the list to do is a complete brake upgrade I will definitely get the parts from etrailer.com.  706958

I ordered several things from etrailer 2Axle hanging kit + u bolts and 4 pro grip retractable anchors. Every single thing inside of the box was well packed delivery was outstanding and the parts are solid. The anchor points fits perfectly on the pocket holes on my 2013 F-150, super easy to install and they are more convenient than the anchor points that came with the truck and sits at the bottom of the bed. I will recommend any of you to buy from etrailer they have great customer service, if you need to buy parts for a trailer I would say that this is the place to go! 713206

Ask the Experts about this etrailer Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension

  • How to Find the Correct Replacement Equalizer
The Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double Eye Springs # APT5 may have the correct equalizer but you will need to measure the current equalizer to find out. The length from the center of the left-most eye to the center of the right-most eye of your equalizer needs to be the same as the 7-3/4 inch measurement in this kit. Since you said the shackles are hitting the frame I recommend using a kit with a center hanger that is longer than the 3-3/4 inch hanger that comes with Kit # APT5....

  • Replacement Suspension for Tandem Square Axle Venture Boat Trailer
I reached out to the manufacturer but they are not currently able to look up VIN numbers for part assistance. I was able to find on their website that the square tube axles are either 2000 lbs capacity each or the more common 3,500 lbs capacity each. Most of their trailers utilize the 3,500 lb axles and I believe that is the case for all their tandem axle trailers. For your trailer you can use the following: -Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double Eye Springs - 3-3/4" Tall Front/Center/Rear...

  • Replacement Suspension Parts for 18 Utility Trailer
If you have a serial number on your trailer axle or a plate or sticker on it that will list the VIN number, you can completely confirm your axle capacity but a 3" axle measurement would usually indicate a 5,200lbs or 6,000lbs axle. The Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double Eye Springs # APT5 would be a sufficient capacity kit this application. For leaf springs, #PR4 is for a 4,000lb axle and maybe underrated. The 5-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 6,000-lb Trailer Axles is also...

  • How to Determine Where to Put Axles on Trailer
I have added a link to a help article for you which has the formula you need that allows you to determine exactly where to position your axles on a trailer. Using this formula, based on measurements you'll need to take and the weight of the trailer, will determine where you position the axles. As for the hanger kit that depends on the size of your axle and your leaf springs. For example, the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double Eye Springs # APT5 is for 2,000-lb to 7,000-lb tandem-axle...

  • Why do Some Trailer Suspension Kits Have Longer Equalizer Hangers
The reality is that not every manufacturer makes their suspension kits to the same standard sizes. Some use taller hangers with wider equalizers and some might use a taller equalizer with a shorter center hanger. It really just comes down to the preference of the manufacturer and what gives them the ride height and distance between tires that works the best for them. Also the fact that some trailer leaf springs happen to be longer or shorter plays into what is best solution as well. Ideally...

The Dexter Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for Double-Eye Springs # APT5 does include the spring hanger components for a tandem axle trailer like yours. You'll need to determine how much height increase you need. This will tell you if the height gain from over-under kit # K71-384-00 or from the taller hangers will be enough for you. Typically an over-under kit provides a height increase of roughly the diameter of the axle. But a 3-inch taller hanger will not give you 3-inches of height...

When you follow the attached photo, this will give you the 33-1/2 inch axle spread. • What Causes Shackle Straps To Flip Below the Equalizer
It is not uncommon for the shackle straps to flip once weight is lifted off the suspension but if they do so when you have a load bearing then this will not allow for proper load distribution or suspension travel. The cause of this issue is that the leaf springs are too long, the shack straps are too long, or a combination of both. The best option for you to make sure you get the proper spacing would be to change these parts out. If you can let me know the distance between your leaf spring...

The 60/40 axle placement formula is a great starting point for where to place the axle. That means putting 60 percent of the trailer in front of the axle center and 40 percent behind it. Basically the goal is to have 10 percent of the total weight of the trailer end up as tongue weight as this will allow your trailer to track the best behind your tow vehicle without swaying. When setting up a new trailer suspension it is best to do a mock-up (by clamping or tack welding the parts in place) to allow you to see how the system functions. There are so many variables that is best to test. Typical spacing dimensions for 25-1/8-inch springs are shown in the chart on the page for # APT5. Since the springs you intend to use, 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # SP-051275, are 7/8-inch longer than those listed in the chart, you will want to increase the hanger spacing approximately...

  • Will Trailer Suspension Hanger Kit # APT5 Fit a Trailer with 2-3/8 Inch Diameter Axle
You can use the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit # APT5 for your trailer with the 2-3/8 inch axle. A 2-3/8 inch diameter axle is typically found on 3,500 pound axles which is within the range of this kit (2,000 to 7,000 pound axles). The measurements in the chart on the page can be used as a guide. A better option for a 2-3/8 inch axle is kit # APT3, # AP233-H248, or # APT1. It all depends on the axle spacing, spring measurements, and equalizer length.

  • How to Determine Hanger Spacing for Tandem Axle Trailer Suspension with 26 Inch Springs
Thank you for providing the specs for the suspension components that you already have. Correct hanger spacing really depends on the components being used such as springs, hangers and equalizers. Most of the hanger spacing dimensions that we have are based on our preassembled kits, so we will use that as a foundation for your setup. • Recommendation For Lifting A Tandem Axle Boat Trailer For More Clearance
You can use a longer center hanger for the springs, but you will need to add as much height as possible because the spring deflection won't just mean one inch additional hanger length equals one inch of height lifted. Only changing out the center will not give you the additional height of 1 inch you are seeking. My recommendation is that you use a hanger like the Redline Center Hanger for Double-Eye Springs - 5-7/16" Tall - 3/4" Bolt Hole, # 115919, for all your front and rear mounts...

As a general rule of thumb the minimum safe distance between front and rear tires on the same side of a tandem axle trailer is 4 inches. Thank you for the measurements you provided and for the photo of your trailer suspension mockup showing the spring components' spacing. Another way to lift your trailer would be an over-under conversion kit. This would add way more height to your trailer...probably closer to 4 inches more. • Should Trailer Suspension Equalizers be Level
If the trailer is not loaded then you will often see equalizers that are tilted like yours. It does not necessarily mean that there is a problem with the suspension. If the springs are worn out then the trailer would easily bottom out. If that is not happening then the springs are likely fine. It is possible that some component is not the right size as well. If the springs are too short or the equalizers are not long enough that can affect the geometry of the suspension.
