We can make sure that we send that missing bolt out to you if you need it. Customer Service will be in touch.

Parts are great quality I deducted 2 stars because they were just thrown in a cardboard box. The hardware was not in a bag and was all loose. Due to the weight of the box, it was busted open upon delivery and was missing the cotter keys and 2 nuts. If the hardware was put in a bag to keep it contained this would be 5 stars.

by:

  • What Type of Bolt is Used On Slipper End of Slipper Spring Suspensions
The bolt on the slipper end of a slipper spring suspension is a regular shackle bolt. It basically looks like a regular bolt. This can be seen in the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for 2" Slipper Springs # APT6SE. If you're looking for replacement shackle bolts you will need to measure the length and diameter of your current bolts so they match. I have attached a link below to all of our suspension bolts, along with a help article on slipper spring trailer suspension for your reference.

  • Availability of Rear Hanger for 2 inch Wide Slipper Spring and Complete Hanger Kit
For a rear hanger for a 2 inch wide slipper spring we have the part # 721585 which is 5-1/16 inches tall. Then for a complete kit like you mentioned needing you'd want the part # APT6SE which comes with a 12 inch equalizer.

  • How to Determine Hanger Spacing on 5,200 lb Tandem Axle Trailer
For this combination, the distance between the front hanger and the center hanger should be 32 inches on center. The distance between the center hanger and the rear hanger will be 32 inches on center. This will put the axles 36-3/4 inches apart on center and the center of the axle will be 4-1/2 inches below the trailer frame. Take a look at the image I made for you which shows the spacing you will want for your hangers.

  • Slipper Spring Hanger Positioning for 7,000 lb Tandem Axle
The spring hanger placement is going to be determined by your axle spacing. For example, if your axles are spaced 33 inches apart, as shown in the attached diagram, a 7K axle slipper spring, like # e74SR, requires a distance of 28-1/2 inches between the front and center hangers and 29-1/2 inches between the center and rear hangers, when using our Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for 2" Slipper Springs with 12" Long Equalizers, # APT6SE. The slipper spring hook of a slipper spring like part # e67SR attaches to the equalizer and the eye of the spring attaches to the hangers of Tandem-Axle trailer hanger kit part # APT6SE. I have attached a diagram of how slipper springs are setup. I have also attached a very helpful article that explains slipper spring setups.

  • Tandem Axle Hanger Kit for 2 inch Wide Slipper Springs
Yes, you can mount two 6,000 lb capacity axles that use slipper springs in tandem on your trailer. What you'll need is a tandem axle slipper spring hanger kit like the part # APT6SE which is designed for 2 inch wide springs like what you have. What equalizers do is prevents any of your axles from ever carrying the full weight of the trailer at any time like over a bump. The weight is always "equalized" between the two axles.

  • Recommended Triple or Quad Axle Suspension for Trailer Build
Since you are building a trailer I first want to state that using quad axles isn't ideal. It will cause tire scrub as there becomes too broad an axle base for the trailer to track as nicely. That is why most trailers will use tandem or triple axles as needed for load capacity. If you just want to add the 4th axle for overbuild reasons it will bite you as you will need to replace tires more often. Most of the professional semi flat bed trailers that have the quad axles are for transporting...

The highest capacity 1-3/4" wide slipper spring we offer is 3,700 lbs part # SP-040275 which measures 30" long end to end. If you need a higher capacity then you will need to upgrade the hangers and equalizers to accept 2" with a kit like the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for 2" Slipper Springs part # APT6SE so you can use the 6-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Hook End for 8,000-lb part # e46SR.

  • Hanger Spacing Dimensions for Installing E5115 Slipper Springs on Tandem Axle Trailer
I was able to find more info on your slipper spring. Looks like you have a Dexter 5115 slipper spring that is 27-1/2 inches long and has a 4k capacity. I attached a picture that has all of the hanger spacing dimensions needed when installing this spring with a hanger kit that uses 12 inch equalizers. The hanger kit you most likely have is the part # APT6SE.

  • How to Choose Correct Axle Placement for Tandem 7K Axles with Slipper Leaf Springs
Slipper spring setups, like parts # e74SR and # APT6SE for 7K axles, do have different hanger sizes so what you'll want to do is cut off the older hangers and do some mock-ups of your new system before installing the hangers. Start off by mocking up the center hanger setup about 2/3rds of the way back on your trailer. From there you need to measure your tongue weight and shoot for something in the range of 10 - 15% of the weight of the trailer. If you're outside of that range then you...

  • Recommended Hangers for Slipper Spring Suspension
The 4-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Open Eye End for 4,300-lb Trailer Axles - 26-1/4" Long # e33SR is a 1-3/4 inch wide spring, so I recommend using the Single-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for 1-3/4" Slipper Springs # APS3SE for these springs if you have a single axle trailer. If you have a tandem axle trailer, you will want to move to 2 inch wide springs like # SP-231275 and use a kit like # APT6SE.

  • Recommended 8,000 lb Slipper Spring Hanger and Equalizer Kit for 2 Inch Springs
For your Tandem 8K axles with 2 inch slipper springs, I recommend the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit for 2" Slipper Springs - 12" Long Equalizers # APT6SE. The hangers are to be welded to your trailer frame and the holes on the top of the hangers are for spot welds not bolts. This kit comes with the hardware needed.

  • Can Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit APT6SE Replace 11-1/4 inch Equalizer
Are your hangers attached to angle-iron beams that run from side to side on your trailer? That's a pretty unique setup if so. It almost looks like the front one is bent? The equalizer of the kit part # APT6SE that you referenced would work well to replace what you currently have though. This kit does not need bushings provided separately as they are not needed.

You will actually just need kit # APT6SE-36 which is the same thing only the equalizers in it are 13-1/8 inches long. The hardware with each is specific to the kits so some of the other parts are different but for 2 inch slipper springs and 13-1/8 inch equalizers kit # APT6SE-36 is the one for you.

  • Why do Tandem and Triple Axle Trailers Use Equalizer Suspension
This is a really good question but here's why the equalizer setup is needed on non-single axle trailers. Its because when you hit a larger bump or elevation change without an equalizer a single axle at a time is going to have to take on the entire weight of the trailer. Since that will overload that axle in those moments an equalizer is needed to distribute that weight to the other axles. It's a pretty simple but effective design. So in real life what that means is that if you were to get...

The very slight variance between your measurements and the hangers are not going to be problematic; the differences are only 1/4", 1/16", and 1/16", respectively. The distance between the front and center hanger should be 28-1/2 inches, distance between center and rear hanger 29-1/2 inches, and the distance between axle centers 33 inches. This will then put the distance from the trailer frame to the axle center right at 4-1/2 inches.
