Video Transcript for Redline U-Bolt Kit for Trailer Axles Installation

Today on our small utility trailer we're going to be doing an installation of the Redline U Bolt kit for mounting of a 2000 lb round trailer axle, part number APUBR-10. To make things a little bit easier for you to see, we've already raised our trailer up in the air. While this is not necessary, you will need to put it on a set of jack stands if you're working on it at home. We've also gone ahead and removed the tires, again so you can see things a little bit easier. On this particular trailer, one side already had the original U bolts and mounting plate had broken off so it wasn't even connected on the trailer. This other side, we've gone ahead and already removed the old U bolts and mounting plate here on the bottom. To cut them off, we simply used a cut off wheel here on our grinder.

You can cut them off with a reciprocating saw blade or other means but you will need to remove the U bolts as well as the mounting plate. You can try to back off the nuts off of the U bolts but usually they tend to get stuck and don't like to back off. It's much easier as well as quicker to just cut the U bolt. Now we have both U bolts and plates removed from both sides of the axles and now we're ready to re-install the new U bolts. You'll notice here on the underside of our axle, we have like an alignment hole here. Now we'll take the alignment hole here on the axle and line it up with the pin here on the spring.

We'll do that for both sides to make sure it's in the proper location. We'll then take one of the new U bolts, slide it over the axle. Take another one, do the same thing. We'll then take one of the mounting plates, you'll notice that there's a hole in the center that lines up here with the nut on the spring as well as four additional holes that will line up with the U bolts. Once we have the plate in place we can go ahead and start each of the nuts. Go ahead and run each of them hand tight down first.

Now that we're sure we have everything in place we'll make sure that the U bolts are lined up properly. They're tight against each side here. We have the center hole lined up, the nut holding the spring together. You can go ahead and tighten each of the nuts down. Just doing a little bit of time on each one.

Now that we have all of our hardware tightened down over here on the passenger side, we'll go ahead and move over to the driver's side of the trailer and repeat the same process. Keep in mind, when tightening down the nuts on the U bolt, you do need to go tight but you don't need to crank them down so tight that everything is all bent up. You want to tighten them down and just when the plate starts to pull in a little or bend upward, that's plenty tight. Now that we have our U bolts tightened down, we can go ahead and re-install each of the wheels. Make sure that if you did remove your wheels you get the lugs nice and tight and torque them down to the manufacturers specification. With that, that'll conclude the installation of the Redline U Bolt kit for mounting a 2000 lb round trailer axle, part number APUBR-10 as installed on our small utility trailer. .

Great product! Plain and simple. Put about 2200 miles on my personal trailer. Periodically check for tightness and they have loosened at all. 590019

Did not end up using, as the previous U-Bolts were still in good shape and had nylock nuts. Be aware that these have 24 TPI threads, not the expected 16 TPI. This is published in the description on the web, I did not read all of the words that were so carefully written. etrailer did everything right on their end. 139666

No problems with this or the other parts I used to convert to spring over configuration. I recommend etrailer and will use them next time I change my rig.

Just what I needed to re-mount a 2000 lb. trailer axle. I bought a used boat trailer, and the previous owner had rigged it with some oversize U-bolts. The trailer has a standard 2000 lb. axle and leaf springs. The plates mated with the stud on the leaf springs perfectly and the bolts fit fine. Shipping was fast and I had the parts a few days after I ordered them. 54264

Mounting plates holes were not spaced far enough apart and did not fit around the leaf spring on my HF 48x96 utility trailer. I used the U bolts and had to re-use the old plates. 574000

Kit fit perfectly. Buyers should note that the original set up had lock washers, so if yours were rusty like mine, you may want to pick up 8 new ones. Otherwise, shipping was quick, was exactly as depicted and I think it was a smart buy. 655727

this ujoint kit appears to be complete however the spring seat is not a kit and only comes with just the one. So you need to know to order 2. this is has cause me a delay since I had to order another. The info should be there to warn the buyer they need a quantity of two or come with two if it's sold as a kit like item APUBR-10 ---the ubolts. 633208

As stated in the product description, the spring seats are sold separately.

This worked great for putting a tandem axle under the pontoon trailer. no more sway, as before, with a single torsion axle. I don't have a picture cause the trailer is still in storage, because of 10' of snow this year. 612639

Ask the Experts about this Redline Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension
Do you have a question about this Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension?

  • Recommended 26 Inch Leaf Springs for 1,500 or 2,000 Pound Trailer Axle
  • When measuring your existing leaf springs, you will want to measure the length from the center of spring eye to the center of spring eye. If you measured a length of 26 inches, then the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # SP-124275 should be a perfect replacement if you have a 2,000 pound axle. To confirm your axle rating, I recommend checking for a plate somewhere on the axle itself that lists its capacity. Even if you do find that your axle has a 1,500 pound capacity, this leaf spring set...

Keep in mind, if your current springs are not 26 inch springs, like the # SP-124275 you referenced, your hangers, # APS4, will not be in the exact same position as your current ones. When repositioning everything the most important factor is keeping the axle in the same location it currently is. The U-Bolt Kit # APUBR-10 is correct for a 2,000 pound axle and the Shackle Bolt # 166081 will work too. It's hard to tell by the...

  • What is the Difference Between Double Eye Leaf Springs and Slipper Leaf Springs
  • The difference is found in the application. The Slipper Spring styles, like part # SP-179275, are intended for use with more heavy duty applications, while the Double Eye styles, like part # SP-124275 are used to provide a more comfortable ride. The part # SP-124275 that you referenced will be the correct fit if your current leaf springs are 26 inches long from the center of the attachments points (usually known as eye-center-to-eye-center). You might also still be needing a U-Bolt...

  • I can help you piece together an over under kit that will fit a 1-3/4 inch axle, but the part # K71-384-00 is not a fit for you as it is designed for thicker axles. You would instead want the spring seat part # TRSS175 and then the U-bolt kit part # APUBR-10 and you would have everything you would need.

We don't have an axle over under kit for your axle size, but we could piece together one if you like. All you would need for an over-under kit for a 1-3/4 inch round axle would be the U-bolt kit part # APUBR-10 and the spring seat part # TRSS175. You would need two of the spring seats. I assume you have a 1-3/4" diameter axle (1,000 lb - 2,000 lb) so that means you will need the U-Bolt Kit part # APUBR-10 and the Spring Seat part # TRSS175 (2). If you have a cross brace at the axle location, this bar (not included) is not needed. This will give you the perfect fit on your frame and will extend the wheels to the outside of the frame....

  • Availability of 60 inch Long Trailer Axle for a Jon Boat
  • Trailer axles normally have a slight bow to them to help with the tire alignment when loaded. It would take quite a bit of force to flatten the axle out to give it an additional inch of length.
