Video Transcript for TruRyde Trailer Suspension TRSS175 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at a spring seat for typical 2,000 pound, round trailer axles, with a 1-3/4 inch diameter. The spring seat is a necessary component of your trailer's suspension system. When mounted with a 1-3/4 inch wide leaf spring, it adds extra support and provides proper positioning for the axle. This unit's made from a durable steel construction. It welds on to a round 1-3/4 inch diameter axle, which is a typical 2,000 axle. It sits on top of a 1-3/4 inch wide spring. The cut out on the flat side of the seat surrounds the raised knob on the leaf spring to prevent turning or shifting.

It's going to provide extra support and secure positioning for the trailer axle. Please note that two spring seats are required for each axle. A few measurements to go over with you real quick. Start with the overall length, measuring edge to edge. It's going to measure about 2-1/4 of an inch long. Overall width, measures about 1-7/8 of an inch.

The height, is just shy of 1 inch, about 15/16 of an inch tall. Then this opening, right here, the rounded point, at the widest spot, that's going to give us an opening measurement of really close to an 1-1/2, maybe 1-7/16 of an inch, right in that area. That's going to do it for today's look at the spring seat for typical 2,000 pound, round trailer axles, with a 1-3/4 inch diameter.

  • Recommended Parts for Rebuild/Upgrade of Harbor Freight Trailer
The Dexter Trailer Idler Axle w/ Hubs - EZ-Lube - 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 60" Long - 2,200 lbs # 20545I-EZ-60-15 is a great starting point to upgrade your trailer. This will give you a standard size axle with good bearings, hubs, and EZ-lube spindles. This is far nicer than the weird sized stuff that comes on Harbor Freight trailers. The Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # AM31994 will be a great addition to these hubs and...

  • How To Get Additional Clearance To Run Larger Tires On Karavan 5 x 8 Utility Trailer
To change the 4.80x12 tires on your Karavan 5' x 8' utility trailer to ST175/80D13 tires you will need need to have 5-6" clearance between the top of the tire to the bottom of the fender, and 2-3" between the inside of the tire to the frame. The ST175/80D13 is going to be about 3-1/2" taller than your current tires, and about 2" wider than your current tires. Based on the pictures you provided you will likely not have enough clearance without lifting the trailer. Not to worry this is...

  • Recommended 2,000 lbs Axle w/ a 72" Hub-Face-to-Hub-Face Measurement
You can but it's going to stick out an extra 1-1/2" wide on either side and you'll need to move the spring seats and replace them with a pair of item # TRSS175. I checked our inventory and the etrailer Axle item # e37YR you were looking at is going to be the closest we have to your 69" hub-face-to-hub-face dimension. If you have any additional questions feel free to throw them into the comment box below.

  • What is Needed to Lift Camper With Round 2k Axle
Hi Sean, You mentioned you have a higher GVWR but it looks to be just about 2,200 lbs for your Starcraft pop-up, so I'm guessing you have a 2,000 lb axle still. You'll want to verify you do and that it is round and 1-3/4" in diameter, and if so you can use the same things you had previously seen, a pair of the Spring Seat for Typical 2,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles with 1-3/4" Diameter # TRSS175 and U-Bolt Kit for Mounting 2,000-lb, Round Trailer Axles # APUBR-10. As for the bolt pattern...

  • Can etrailer 2,000 lb Axle be Flipped
The etrailer axle part # e82GR can only be installed in an underslung orientation. Since the axle has a bow to it if you were to flip it the alignment would be way off. You'd have to weld spring seats on the opposite side of the axle with the part # TRSS175 to install the axle as an overslung setup.

  • Axle Flip Kit for a 1,000 Lb to 2,000 Lb Trailer Axle 1-3/4 Inch Diameter
I have a solution that will allow you to flip your axle but there is not an all-inclusive kit for your axle size so we will need to piece together one. I assume you have a 1-3/4" diameter axle (1,000 lb - 2,000 lb) so that means you will need the U-Bolt Kit part # APUBR-10 and the Spring Seat part # TRSS175 (2). These u-bolts are 4-1/4" which is the longest we have for this width. However, I would highly doubt that you will require a 6" long u-bolt as most leaf springs are only 3/8" thick....

  • Selecting a New Axle, Wheels and Tires for a 4 x 8-Foot Utility Trailer
An easy way to replace your axle is to use a complete kit such as Dexter # 20545I-EZ-60-15. This kit consists of the 60-inch axle, idler hubs, bearings, seals, lug nuts and grease caps - and even grease. This axle is rated for 2200-lbs and its spring centers are at 48-inches. Its hubs have the same 5-on-4-1/2-inch bolt pattern as the wheel/tire you referenced, part # AM31985 from Kenda. This kit will work with 13-inch wheels. Note that you will need to weld on new spring seats on top of...

  • How to Determine the Correct Over-Under Conversion Kit
In order to determine whether you need the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00 (2-3/8") or # K71-385-00 (3") you will need to measure the diameter of your axle. If you get 2-3/8" then you need # K71-384-00 and if you get 3" then you need # K71-385-00. As far as tires/rims are concerned you will want to ensure you have a 4 on 4 bolt pattern (which is the most common 4 bolt pattern) I have included a link to an article that can help you with determining this. • Installing Dexter Trailer Axle T20BTR-7258 In Application Where Spring Seats Need to be Opposite
Since you need the spring seat on the opposite side of the trailer axle part # T20BTR-7258 that you referenced you'd need to either have the spring seat that's on it removed and attached on the other side of it or have new ones like the part # TRSS175 welded to the opposite side. The bow in the axle allows it to flatten out once the weight of the trailer is put on it. This is why you can't just flip the axle over.

  • Replacement Trailer Axle For 5' X 8' Ironton Trailer With 15" Diameter Wheels and Tires
Based on the Dimensions of the 5'x8' Ironton trailer you are most likely to need the Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs # e37YR. This axle places the hub faces at 72" which is 6 inches wider than the bed size of your utility trailer. The spring center to spring center is 58" and if this does not exactly match your trailer you can weld 2 new Seats # TRSS175 on the axle. The axle being 72" across measured from hub-face to hub-face. This axle comes with 5 on 4-1/2" idler hubs, which will allow for a ton of tire/wheel combos. In order to use our axle you would likely need to relocate the spring seats. We sell them individually with part # TRSS175. From the looks of things, you would need a new u-bolt kit # CE23000 as...

  • Is a 2,000LB Axle With Hub Face Measurement of 70.5" a Commonly Found Size?
This is not a common axle size. The Axle # e32GR is going to be our closest to your current axle. This axle has a 72" hub face with spring center of 58". You may be able to use this axle if you have the clearance for your tires to be moved out 3/4" on each side of your trailer. The current spring seats can be cut off and 2 new Seats # TRSS175 can be welded on at the 59" spring center you have. A U-Bolt Kit # CE23000 will allow you to attach this axle to your current leaf springs.

  • Is There An Axle Flip Kit for a 2,000 Lb 1-3/4 Inch Diameter Axle
I do have all of the components you will need to flip the axle on your tent trailer but there is not an all inclusive kit per se to do so. However, the kits are pretty basic as all they include are u-bolts, tie plates, and spring seats. For your 1-3/4" diameter axle, I recommend using the U-Bolt Kit part # APUBR-10 with the Spring Seat part # TRSS175 (2). The only difference between these two parts and a kit like the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit is that the spring seats...

If you are okay with removing the fenders or going to a larger one that would probably be your simplest route and the way I would go if I were you. We don't have an axle over under kit for your axle size, but we could piece together one if you like. All you would need for an over-under kit for a 1-3/4 inch round axle would be the U-bolt kit part # APUBR-10 and the spring seat part # TRSS175. You would need two of the spring seats. These two 2K-rated axle kits include 5-on-4-1/2 hubs, bearings, races, seals, lug nuts and bearing grease. For a standard axle we have the Trailer Axle with Idler Hubs - 4 on 4 Bolt Pattern # e25GR which is rated for 2,000 lbs but the spring seats are 48" apart on center so for this to fit you'll have to cut off the current sets and have new ones, part # TRSS175, welded on. I wish we had something we could offer you, but none of the spring seats we offer are designed to fit a 1.9 inch diameter axle. The closest we have is the 1.75 inch spring seat like part # TRSS175 which wouldn't work unless you happened to incorrectly measure your axle diameter and you do have 1-3/4 inch axles. The rest of the parts you would need would come in the kit part # APUBR-10.

  • Can Spring Seats be Removed and Welded On in Different Spots on Dexter Trailer Axle 20440I-ST-60
Yes! You can weld the springs seats to a different location on Dexter trailer axle # 20440I-ST-60. But instead of cutting off the ones on the axle and welding them back on I recommend getting new springs seats, # TRSS175 (sold in quantities of 1), and welding them on in the proper position. This will ensure that the springs seats are in good shape.

  • Can Spring Seats On Trailer Axle Be Moved To Match Trailer Frame?
They sure can! What you will need to do is replace the spring seats that are currently welded on the axle in question, and have a qualified welder weld them in the correct location to match your trailer. Now the correct spring seats will be dependent on the diameter of your axle tube. The most common sizes are the 1-3/4" # TRSS175 which is common for 2000lb axles, the 2-3/8" # TRSS238 which is common for 3500lb axles, or the 3" # TRSS300 which are common for 5200-7000lb axles. • Can Trailer Leaf Springs be Moved from Below the Axle to the Top of the Axle
Some trailers have the leaf spring stack above the axle and some have it underneath. You can move the stack to the top of the axle but you will have to weld on new spring seats to the top of the axle. Use # TRSS175 for a 1-3/4 inch round axle. It will raise the height of the trailer some but you need to be aware that it also raises the center of gravity. That makes the trailer more susceptible to sway.
