Double-Eye Leaf Spring Basics

Leaf springs, as you probably know, make up an important part of your trailer's suspension. Their main purpose is to absorb road shock as you travel, as well as allow your axle(s) to move independently of the rest of the trailer.

Double-Eye Spring Parts

To mount this leaf spring, you'll need hangers welded onto your trailer frame - which you probably already have in place - as well as shackle straps and a suspension bolt. It's a good idea to replace your existing straps and bolt while you're under there working on things because they tend to wear out quickly. One thing that could help keep them from wearing out too fast would be upgrading to galvanized or zinc-plated hardware. Doing so will boost the corrosion resistance and, therefore, the longevity of your trailer.

We also always recommend replacing both of your springs at the same time because it's not unusual for leaf springs to sag and elongate over time. If you replace just the one, there's a good chance that it won't match your existing spring on the opposite side of your trailer, and that can mess up your alignment.

The exact match to replace a leaf spring that had broken on my raft trailer due to getting weighed down w/an incredible amount of snow 2 seasons ago. Considering the customer service I've received from etrailer.com as well, I won't shop anywhere else for products related to my various trailers, vehicles and boats. Thanks etrailer and thanks George J!

by:

I wasn’t sure that is what my trailer needed until I installed them. It raised my trailer 3/4” so I knew that’s what was needed.

by:

Would have rated higher as shipping was quick and all was right , except the nuts that were sent for the spring bolts were half inch not nine sixteenth, so had to make a trip to the hardware for the proper nuts.

by:

Springs were exactly what I needed. Fit perfect. Had 1 issue with shipping but Customer Service was great!! Quick email to them and they had a new set of spring out for shipping the same day. Had springs 2 days later! Would def do business again.

by:

Right size and delivered on time.

It has been 1 year since installing these springs and EVERYTHING is absolutely just fine. My Pontoon trailer rides super nice now! Thanks etrailer!

by:

Service was outstanding! Cannot rate products until they get some use. Curious to see how they stand up to the salt water here on the coast.

by:

The springs seem fine, beefy and solid. I am disappointed in the bushings. They seem somewhat thin and may wear out soon.

by:

Excellent product, perfect fit for my older trailer. Great customer support via phone to confirm all measurements before buying. Very happy customer!

by:

Using the on line chat we figured out what trailer spring to use. Using measurements from my old saggy broken springs, the Chat tech recommended this spring and Nailed It! RV is back on the road and riding at the correct height. Thanks so much!

by:

These leaf springs were just what I needed to fix my trailer and were at a reasonable price.

by:

They had exactly what I needed at a good price and the hardware to install was presented for me making it easy to decide what I needed. Communication was great and they even improved on the shipping date. Everything lines right up and installed perfectly.

by:

These new springs are sooo much better than the original springs. My trailer finally has the fender clearance it needs!1

by:

Amazing service the paper and accuracy of your company sets it apart from all others. I order parts for my boat and trailer throughout the year and etrailer surpassed them all by a landslide. Y’all have a customer for life.

by:

Order took longer than expected to be delivered, but springs fit great. My trailer is back on the road. Price was good. Help on the phone with my order was great.

by:

Finally! Service over the phone with people that know what they’re talking about. Do you know what a gym that is to find these days? I’ll say no more.

  • Availability of 20 Inch Long 3-Leaf Leaf Spring for Small Performance Utility Trailer
Thank you for providing that information. In addition to the length you will also want to know the capacity of your axle so you can choose the correct leaf spring replacement. Assuming this is an older leaf spring, you will also need to account for it sagging over time which will elongate the spring. For a replacement we have 2 possible options for you. The first is the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # SP-072275. This is designed for 3,300 lb axles and measures 18-5/16" long. A leaf spring...

  • Replacement Leaf Spring Options for a 2,000 lb Trailer Axle
Hey Estaban, thanks for reaching out! It sounds like you're needing either the 20-3/8" Long # e84SR or the 26" Long # e77SR which are both double eye springs rated for a 2,000 lb trailer axle. You'll need to measure the center eye to center eye distance of your current leaf spring when it's unloaded (the weight of the trailer lifted off of it as well) to make sure you get the correct length. I'm not seeing an order from you with us here at etrailer.com, but if you can get me your order...

  • Replacement Leaf Springs, Shackles and Equalizers for 2012 Koala 21CS
For a replacement leaf spring the part # e84SR would work great as this is a 2,000 lb axle leaf spring with exact dimension you have of 2-3/8 inches. For replacement shackles we have the part # TRSL313 which is the size you need of 3-1/8 inches. For wet bolts you'd want the part # 126B2 and then for cushioned equalizers you could use the part # LC279687.

  • Replacement Double Eye Leaf Spring For a Trailer with 21-3/4" Eye To Eye Measurement
I see you were looking at the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e84SR for 2,000lb trailer axles. This spring has an eye to eye measurement of 20-3/8" when fully relaxed and will extend all the way to 22" when the spring flattens out due to weight. If you are measuring worn out springs that are nearly flat this may be the correct spring for your trailer. Our next largest spring is currently the 23-1/8" Spring # e59SR which is rated for a 3,500lb trailer axle.

  • Leaf Spring Replacement for 21-1/2 Spring on 2001 StarCraft Camper
Is the 21-1/2" measurement with the trailer still loaded or is that with the frame of the trailer jacked up so the spring is in a natural position? The 3-leaf spring # e84SR might work as it measures 20-3/8" center eye to center eye and it's rated for 2,000 lbs. If the weight rating and length works out for you then this being 3-leaf springs as opposed to 4-leaf springs will still work out since you're supposed to change out leaf springs in pairs (for each side of the axle). For example, if your rear leaf spring hangers are 7/8" tall or shorter than you would want to use part # APS1 but if they are taller then this you would want to use part # APS2 or part # APS3. • Leaf Spring Replacement and How to Find the Correct Measurements
I'll be glad to help you find the correct set of leaf springs for your trailer but I am going to need some more information. This is a common problem because springs like to flatten out as they wear. The best way to get an accurate measurement is to jack the trailer up so that the axles hang free. Then measure straight across the springs from the center of one eye to the center of the other eye on each spring. This will give you a close enough measurement, within 1-2 inches, that you will...
