Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.
Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.
In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Install time took about an hour and a half, and was indeed incredibly easy thanks to the video. I used a bungee cord to hold up the exhaust and a utility knife with a new blade to cut all of the plastic including the notch for the hitch. Since there is so much room underneath the car, I used my jack stands to hold the hitch up while putting the first screws in, no second pair of hands needed. It looks fantastic and doing it myself instead of paying the dealership felt great. You really do get what you pay for!
Had a friend come over and it took less than an hour. Most of that time was spent removing and reinstalling all the clips and screws for the bumper cover and rear wheel splash guards. Video made it seem easy. Definitely glad I decided to go with this model hitch as it looks like a factory install. When I purchased the 2020 Odyssey in December I had the dealership give me quote and they wanted right at $1200 to do what etrailer allowed me to for $xx.xx. Thanks for saving me the $1000 and having the satisfaction of doing it with my buddy and the expert help from etrailer.
Installed the product 1 year after acquiring it on my 2018 Odyssey- It was a snap, no need to put the car on a lift and only removed the last muffler hangar. A second hand is helpful when installing and re-hanging the bumper. Otherwise its a one person Job. Fits great- very sleek hidden hitch. Wiring kit also installed just fine for the 4 flat. Instructional videos was super helpful and paper instructions were nearly adequate in themselves after watching video.
The box was delivered and had some damage on the exterior, but the receiver was not damaged too badly. The paint was chipped off of parts of the receiver. Since I needed to have this on the van as quickly as possible, I did not try and return this. The installation went pretty smoothly regardless of the fact that I could not even make out the pictures on the instructions. The instructions look like they were a copy from a copy from a copy from a copy. The pictures were indistinguishable. Since I don’t tend to rely on procedures and instructions solely, I made measurements to cut the bumper and it worked out really well. The quality of the receiver is excellent and the fact that it is mostly hidden is fantastic. I really like this hitch, just wish it had been shipped with more protection. Tried the bike rack on the back and it fit extremely good!
The idea of putting the hitch on was far more daunting than it actually was. The only difficulty was cleaning the attach points of rust to make sure that the bolts threaded correctly.
Nice trailer hitch for the 2020 Honda Odyssey. That said build quality could be better, there were some minor defects on the bumper, there were some super sharp edges that cut me. I had to file it down and paint it. Installation wasn't too bad, the hardest part was unhitching the exhaust so that you get more room to work with. Installation videos on etrailer.com website made the install a breeze. Note for the plastic retaining clips you need to remove under the bumper, you only need to remove 7 of them (don't remove all of them, as there are there to actually keep the handsfree tailgate antenna inside the bumper)
Thanks to your instructional video the install was a easy. I have back issues and I was recovering from a neck surgery and I was still able to install the trailer receiver all by myself. Between the great price and excellent support it’s a no brainer.
The hitch is built well. The only reason that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the powder coating was already flaking off in a few spots. The install isn't really that difficult. The only tip I guess I would say is make sure you measure well before you cut.
The auto body portion was simple to remove the bumper skin. The instructions recommended lowering the exhaust, I was able to avoid that and actually found it helpful to slide the assembly over the tail pipe to support one side while I started the left side bolts. Torquing the right side bolts was the crux of skipping dropping the exhaust. To dodge that bullet I simply wedged a block of wood between the body and exhaust to make enough clearance for the ratchet head and socket. Overall I'm very happy with the build and fit. It's a much cleaner look than a huge hanging bar. The only thing that broke my heart was cutting a index card size notch in the bumper skin.
Arrived quickly. Directions to remove the bumper were adequate. The fit was great. The directions to trim the bumper were spot on, didn't remove any more than necessary. It looks very professional, almost factory.
Nice low-profile hitch. My only complaint- the installation video showed the hitch with 2 holes for a J pin to reduce vibrations, but the hitch only has one hole for a straight pin. Perhaps the video shows an older version…
Simple and clean install. One hour start to finish. I actually used tin snips for the cutout in the bumper cover which worked very well.
Fairly easy install. Great video to help you along! Really like the hidden cross bar idea!
I’m sure this would have been a good product, had I actually installed it. When I unboxed, which was a terrible shipping container to boot, the part was clearly used, returned and resold (never indicated as used on the listing of course). There was chipped paint from dragging and the previous purchaser’s terrible install job. I’m waiting to hear back from etrailer on an exchange for an actual new part, perhaps my review will be higher afterward.
Great looking trailer. I bought this one because the bars weren't extending off the side of the hitch. Installation is straightforward and the video is great. Lessons learned: 1) I didn't need to take off the forward gasket for the exhaust pipe; I only took off the rear one; photo attached showing how my ratchet fit between tail pipe and bolt. 2) the HARDEST PART of the installation procedure was REATTACHING THE SPLASH GUARDS/MUD GUARDS. I found that it helps to understand what clips and grommets are there. 3) I used a file to de-burr the edges after cutting with my Dremel. I like to avoid sharp knives whenever possible. My hitch came with some paint missing in some parts so I spray painted the surfaces black and gave it a couple hours before handling. It wasn't clear to me from the video why you need a new cable for the Hands Free Tailgate Assist. The manual that comes with the cable makes it very clear: you will not be able to kick under the hitch anymore to open the trunk/hatch. Pic of manual attached. Lastly, maybe stretch before installing this. I was sore for a couple days afterwards and took some Advil.
Have had this for awhile now, so I'll review it. This hitch receiver is as advertised: Hidden. Only the receiver part is visible. Worth the extra cost vs a non-hidden hitch, in my opinion. Item is well made and fit is excellent. The paper instructions combined with the etrailer video instructions made installation straightforward and relatively easy. If you have done any car work yourself like brake pad replacement or even an oil change, you can tackle this job with confidence. Removing the rear bumper on the Odyssey is not as difficult as it may appear. Only disappointment was how this arrived after shipping. It was wrapped in plastic, which did little to protect it. I understand this item once installed will be subjected to weather, various road conditions, dips, speed bumps, etc, but initial presentation matters. I had to spray paint the worn off paint that occurred during shipping. Not a big deal, just slightly annoying.
Purchased the Draw-Tite 76170 trailer hitch receiver for a new 2019 Honda Odyssey, mainly for pulling my utility trailer. The installation video on-line was easy to follow, and the installation went great. I did test each frame hole with a bolt before putting the hitch in place - it was new enough that I didn't need to clean them with a wire brush. The alignment was perfect. As the 76170 fits behind the bumper, it's virtually hidden - only the receiver arm is exposed. Couldn't be more pleased with the purchase.
I have a 2021 Honda Odyssey touring. The Draw-Tite Max Frame Trailer hitch receiver was mounted easily following existing tutorials online. The hitch fits nicely under the bumper panel. My only complaint: The item took several months to arrive after the order was made.
Great hitch is barely visible looks much better than typical bar below the bumper style hitches. Much easier to instal than I expected took me a little over an hour with 3 video conferences breaks along the way, if I had free time it would have been less than 45 min. Granted I watched the install video a few times before i started. I was shocked at the price on etrailer but they price matched it to a competitor plus a bit. Arrived in 2 business days. This is the third hitch Ive purchased from etrailer and i wont even shop anywhere else they are the Zappos of hitches.
I bought this hitch last year and installed it on my 2020 Odyssey. The installation was super easy. The video provided excellent detail to walk through every step. We’ve used it to haul our bikes and a carrier for extra packing space for vacation. The hidden design makes it almost un-noticeable. I highly recommend the product and etrailer.com
Straight forward instructions, simple and easy to install. Will purchase from www.etrailer.com again for any towing needs.
Before I order this hitch, I ordered the Honda hands free power tail gate adapter from online Honda dealer and the part number is# 08L91-THR-100A. The adapter included the shipping is about $90. For the hitch, I ordered by phone with Kim and she was very nice to help me to place the order. The hitch arrived on time and fast shipping. Luckily, I received the hitch and the adapter on the same day. When I opened the hitch box. I didn't find the screws or instruction. It ends up all were inside of the hitch opening hole, well and compact packed. I installed this hitch by myself. I was using two boxes to hold the hitch when I install. I didn't use the floor jack and stand. Because I am a small body build guy. So I can sneak under the van to work on it. Overall, it took me about 3 hours. Maybe it was my first time to install this hitch by myself. During the installation, there are few things wanted to share: 1) the hard part was separating the exhaust mounting rubber brackets. Before I separate the brackets, I used a long rubber twist tie to tie the pipe to the frame then separate the rubber brackets. 2) because I don't have the Torx screwdriver to remove the new hand free tail gate adapter box. So I used a small pointed plier to remove the Trox screw. After putting the new box back, I put the regular screw back instead of the Trox screw. So I can make sure I screwed it tight. 3) just after took out the bumper, there are two electric sensor wires on both sides (I have a Touring model), it was hard to detach the wire connectors. Because I cannnot see the clips. So I detached the whole connection union and off from the car frame and easily to detach the wire connectors. Other than these things, I followed the installation video and it was very smooth. I attached a photo what tools I used and some installation photos. Hope you all had a smooth installation. Thank to the etrailer sales, Kim and the installation video.
Hitch came on time and well packaged to protect it from scratches / damage. After watching etrailer’s video, I set aside a few hours to take my time to install. Everything went as planned. Was able to install without jacking up the van. I did use a floor jack and two car stands to position the hitch under the van so I could thread the first couple bolts. A little nervous to cut the bumper but use of my dremel with cutting disk worked great. Overall very happy with the finished look.
Package was beyond demolished upon delivery. Was not home to refuse delivery from UPS. Figure whatever, it’s going to be hidden behind the bumper anyways so I’m not going to worry about scratches. Little did I know that it would be worse than scratches. The paint has flakes off in large patches. Guess I’m buying some spray paint now. Not for aesthetics but for rust protection. Installation was easy. During install I noticed that the hitch was welded on crooked. Figures I could offset it by angling it some before tightening the bolts. The amount of lay for that was not enough. I have a focused eye on details and it bugs me o no end that it’s off center. Wasn’t going to bother with an exchange. I’ve purchased other hitches before. All have been lower price tier. This is mid price and it wasn’t worth it. Got it to not have a large steel beam peering out from the bottom of the bumper but in retrospect I may have been better off with that than a crooked one.
Great fit on 2019 Odyssey. Immediately attached a bike rack with 4 bikes and drove for nearly 1000 miles on vacation. Zero issues. Hands free tailgate works as good as before hitch install. Written instructions were good...instructional video on website was spot on.
