Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

It was a smooth installation. etrailer video is super helpful. Just followed the video, that's all you need. Thanks etrailer.

by:

Easy to install and great instructions from etrailer.com.

Unfortunately, the receiver tube is welded on crooked when compared to the hitch itself, resulting in bike racks and luggage racks being tilted when compared to the van and the ground. I’d expect more quality from a company like Draw-Tite.

As you can see in etrailer’s pictures, the receiver tube is set inward from the back edge of the bumper, this may make using this hitch more difficult for some users as it is a bit more difficult to hook up safety chains and the hitch pin.

Installed the product 1 year after acquiring it on my 2018 Odyssey- It was a snap, no need to put the car on a lift and only removed the last muffler hangar. A second hand is helpful when installing and re-hanging the bumper. Otherwise its a one person Job. Fits great- very sleek hidden hitch. Wiring kit also installed just fine for the 4 flat. Instructional videos was super helpful and paper instructions were nearly adequate in themselves after watching video.

Super Hitch on the Odyssey - towing fishing boat perfectly all last summer.

The auto body portion was simple to remove the bumper skin. The instructions recommended lowering the exhaust, I was able to avoid that and actually found it helpful to slide the assembly over the tail pipe to support one side while I started the left side bolts. Torquing the right side bolts was the crux of skipping dropping the exhaust. To dodge that bullet I simply wedged a block of wood between the body and exhaust to make enough clearance for the ratchet head and socket. Overall I'm very happy with the build and fit. It's a much cleaner look than a huge hanging bar. The only thing that broke my heart was cutting a index card size notch in the bumper skin.

Comments
Its been awesome, looks great. Hauled trailer twice from Texas to CA worked out perfectly. Im very impressed with the product and how it offers more ground clearance than a below bumper unit.

2020 Honda Odyssey

After reading all of the reviews I had a high level of confidence that installing this hitch on my 2020 Honda Odyssey would be easy. Install time took about an hour and a half, and was indeed incredibly easy thanks to the video. I used a bungee cord to hold up the exhaust and a utility knife with a new blade to cut all of the plastic including the notch for the hitch. Since there is so much room underneath the car, I used my jack stands to hold the hitch up while putting the first screws in, no second pair of hands needed. It looks fantastic and doing it myself instead of paying the dealership felt great. You really do get what you pay for!

Had a friend come over and it took less than an hour. Most of that time was spent removing and reinstalling all the clips and screws for the bumper cover and rear wheel splash guards. Video made it seem easy. Definitely glad I decided to go with this model hitch as it looks like a factory install. When I purchased the 2020 Odyssey in December I had the dealership give me quote and they wanted right at $1200 to do what etrailer allowed me to for $xx.xx. Thanks for saving me the $1000 and having the satisfaction of doing it with my buddy and the expert help from etrailer.

As Tony the Tiger says, “Grrreat! Still very satisfied with the hitch and wiring harness.

The idea of putting the hitch on was far more daunting than it actually was. The only difficulty was cleaning the attach points of rust to make sure that the bolts threaded correctly.

by:

Haven't used it yet, but the fit is great.
Install took about 1.5 hours taking my time and did it all on the ground. I drove the van up on a couple of 2x6's for a little more room underneath. The installation video is dead on, I only took the rearmost exhaust hangar off though.
Overall very pleased and can't wait to put our cargo carrier on and put it to use.
Also great service from etrailer like always.

The detailed videos made the installation easy. I’m super pleased with my purchases. Looks great.

2018 Honda Odyssey

Great looking trailer. I bought this one because the bars weren't extending off the side of the hitch.

Installation is straightforward and the video is great. Lessons learned:
1) I didn't need to take off the forward gasket for the exhaust pipe; I only took off the rear one; photo attached showing how my ratchet fit between tail pipe and bolt.
2) the HARDEST PART of the installation procedure was REATTACHING THE SPLASH GUARDS/MUD GUARDS. I found that it helps to understand what clips and grommets are there.

3) I used a file to de-burr the edges after cutting with my Dremel. I like to avoid sharp knives whenever possible.

My hitch came with some paint missing in some parts so I spray painted the surfaces black and gave it a couple hours before handling.

It wasn't clear to me from the video why you need a new cable for the Hands Free Tailgate Assist. The manual that comes with the cable makes it very clear: you will not be able to kick under the hitch anymore to open the trunk/hatch. Pic of manual attached.

Lastly, maybe stretch before installing this. I was sore for a couple days afterwards and took some Advil.

2020 Honda Odyssey

Nice trailer hitch for the 2020 Honda Odyssey. That said build quality could be better, there were some minor defects on the bumper, there were some super sharp edges that cut me. I had to file it down and paint it.

Installation wasn't too bad, the hardest part was unhitching the exhaust so that you get more room to work with. Installation videos on etrailer.com website made the install a breeze.

Note for the plastic retaining clips you need to remove under the bumper, you only need to remove 7 of them (don't remove all of them, as there are there to actually keep the handsfree tailgate antenna inside the bumper)

2019 Honda Odyssey

Installed myself on a 2019 Honda Odyssey - took about 2.5 hrs. I'm relatively handy with tools and working on cars (you will have to remove your bumper and measure & cut a slot in the bottom center of it for the hitch receiver to poke through). However, once installed, its almost not noticeable, and my wife appreciates the hidden aspect of it. We use it primarily for bike rack, but there are cargo racks, pods, steps to access roof racks, and obviously trailers could be attached to it. Very handy.

Before I order this hitch, I ordered the Honda hands free power tail gate adapter from online Honda dealer and the part number is# 08L91-THR-100A. The adapter included the shipping is about $90. For the hitch, I ordered by phone with Kim and she was very nice to help me to place the order. The hitch arrived on time and fast shipping. Luckily, I received the hitch and the adapter on the same day. When I opened the hitch box. I didn't find the screws or instruction. It ends up all were inside of the hitch opening hole, well and compact packed.

I installed this hitch by myself. I was using two boxes to hold the hitch when I install. I didn't use the floor jack and stand. Because I am a small body build guy. So I can sneak under the van to work on it.

Overall, it took me about 3 hours. Maybe it was my first time to install this hitch by myself. During the installation, there are few things wanted to share:
1) the hard part was separating the exhaust mounting rubber brackets. Before I separate the brackets, I used a long rubber twist tie to tie the pipe to the frame then separate the rubber brackets.
2) because I don't have the Torx screwdriver to remove the new hand free tail gate adapter box. So I used a small pointed plier to remove the Trox screw. After putting the new box back, I put the regular screw back instead of the Trox screw. So I can make sure I screwed it tight.
3) just after took out the bumper, there are two electric sensor wires on both sides (I have a Touring model), it was hard to detach the wire connectors. Because I cannnot see the clips. So I detached the whole connection union and off from the car frame and easily to detach the wire connectors.

Other than these things, I followed the installation video and it was very smooth.

I attached a photo what tools I used and some installation photos. Hope you all had a smooth installation.

Thank to the etrailer sales, Kim and the installation video.

This hitch is great aesthetically! The only issue I had with it was it was a very tight clearance to the bumper beam, and somehow when driving over some slightly bumpy roads it sounded like it was contacting…. Had to take off the bumper and add thick felt foam between the hitch and this aluminum bumper to prevent the noise from occurring. Other than that I like it alot

by:
2020 Honda Odyssey

Great hitch is barely visible looks much better than typical bar below the bumper style hitches. Much easier to instal than I expected took me a little over an hour with 3 video conferences breaks along the way, if I had free time it would have been less than 45 min. Granted I watched the install video a few times before i started. I was shocked at the price on etrailer but they price matched it to a competitor plus a bit. Arrived in 2 business days. This is the third hitch Ive purchased from etrailer and i wont even shop anywhere else they are the Zappos of hitches.

by:
2022 Honda Odyssey

The hitch is built well. The only reason that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the powder coating was already flaking off in a few spots. The install isn't really that difficult. The only tip I guess I would say is make sure you measure well before you cut.

Comments
I will have customer service reach out to you about the paint flaking. I do recommend to cover those spots in a rust-oleum type of paint to prevent rust in the future. I have attached a helpful article for your reference.

Hitch came on time and well packaged to protect it from scratches / damage. After watching etrailer’s video, I set aside a few hours to take my time to install. Everything went as planned. Was able to install without jacking up the van. I did use a floor jack and two car stands to position the hitch under the van so I could thread the first couple bolts. A little nervous to cut the bumper but use of my dremel with cutting disk worked great. Overall very happy with the finished look.

by:
2019 Honda Odyssey

Excellent hitch, excellent installation instructions. They Hitch that we purchased was not the exact model that was installed in the video, so the steps were not exactly the same but the video detailed the correct mounting holes. We had to cut a 6x6 notch out of the bottom of the bumper to get the hitch to sit flush without bending the plastic; very simple, not visible.

by:
2018 Honda Odyssey

Very impressed with the look of this trailer hitch on my 2018 Honda oddesy elite.
Followed the instructional video, and it went without a hitch.

Anyway, if you are looking for a great hitch that does not have the big bulky bar showing, this is the one to go for.

I purchased this 76170 trailer hitch from Etrailer and received fast shipping and excellent service. Their communications were excellent so there was never any apprehensions on my part.

The 76170 hitch is a perfect fit on our 2019 Odyssey EX. I installed it by myself in about 7 hours, taking several breaks. The installation video on the Etrailer website for the Odyssey made installing the hitch straight forward.

I jacked up the rear of the van and set it on safety stands. When removing the bumper cover, I removed one side and set it on a short stool with some 3/4x7x7 inch pieces of wood. Then removed the other side. The bumper cover is light so was easy to manage by myself. The Ody EX does not have sensors on the bumper cover so there was no need to disconnect any cables.

To install the "heavy" hitch by myself, I made a wooden jig to support the underside of the hitch at the balance point. Then lifted the hitch behind the van using a floor jack. Then rolled the floor jack forward and slid the hitch over the exhaust pipe. Used bar clamps on both sides to finish lifting the hitch enough to start one bolt on each side. Then installed the remaining bolts. Tightened the bolts to the recommended 76 ft lbs.

I found that there is no need to cut the plastic shield on the driver's side for installation on an Ody EX. I don't know if it's necessary for higher trim levels. When cutting the middle portion of the bumper cover, the directions say to cut a 5.5" x 3.5" slot in the middle of the bumper cover. When reinstalling the bumper cover, the 3.5" slot hits the hitch. Seems like the bumper cover was installed all the way forward but if I were to do it again, I would cut the slot 5.5" x 3-5/8" to insure 100% that the bumper cover can be reinstalled all the way forward as necessary.

In summary, Etrailer's shipping and service were excellent and I would not hesitate to purchase items from them again in the future.

2023 Honda Odyssey

Product came wrapped in plastic. Not in a box, nothing protecting the ends, and of course, the edges were scuffed, scratching the paint off in several areas. Took an hour to sand the deep scratches and re-paint to prevent rust. Sending it in a box with just a little foam protecting the edges would really have stopped a lot of damage.

Comments
I wanted to say that I am sorry that hitch arrived in this condition. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you about it. You have already done what we could have recommended by touching up the hitch with a rust resistant paint prior to installation.

I finally got around to installing this with my cousin who has the necessary tools. I'm probably not game to pull bumper fascia's off my car normally and i don't own a torque wrench. Doing the work with him was a breeze though. No need to drop the exhaust as long as you can pull it down enough to get your wrench in to one of the 6 bolts that is a challenge. Part fit perfectly and finish is super clean and looks OEM for a fraction of the cost of the dealer doing it.

Comments
A year in, and my hitch is still great! Its so integrated into the bumper that I dont even think about it - that is until I need to use my bike rack, and its right there ready to use. Thanks, etrailer!
