Hi LaMar,

To add a 7-way plug to your 2024 Toyota Highlander SLE you'll need to use the etrailer Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controllers part # ETBC7. This kit will give you a functioning 4-way flat and 7-way for towing and includes the 10-gauge wire to connect to the brake line and power, pre-wired 7 and 4-ways, circuit breakers, and a circuit tester to help you find the stoplight switch above the brake pedal. This kit only works if you have a 4-way already installed on your vehicle though. Please be advised, that with a hybrid you should not disconnect the brake light switch unless the battery is disconnected or ignition is in the off position or it may set off a code in the vehicle's computer system. This is important to keep in mind when splicing into the cold side of the brake light switch wire during install.

If your Highlander has a tow package (Has the wiring pre-wired to tow but no 4-way plug) you'll need to use the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56RV. This harness is designed to plug directly into your vehicle's wiring, no splicing needed, to give you a 4-way flat for lighting functions while towing.

If your 2024 Toyota Highlander SLE doesn't have a tow package you'll need to install the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter w/4-way Flat part # C59496, which is a universal kit that will splice into your vehicle's wiring and is powered directly from the battery to protect from overload and ensuring the trailer lights work perfectly each time you tow. Once your 4-way flat is established, you can use it to add the ETBC7 to wire in a brake controller.

Do you have a brake controller already? I'd be happy to make a suggestion if you still need one!

Thanks for the reply. So if I found a little white connector box underneath the bumper does that mean it's wired and I don't need the C59495? I would add a photo if I knew how. Do I only need the ETBC7and C59496? Yes I would need a brake controller sometime. We have a TAB with surge brakes but will be getting a newer camper with trailer brakes.

@LamarW Hey LaMar! I was able to find a video of them installing the Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness part # C56RV on a 2022 Toyota Highlander with the factory tow package and in the video, it has the same plug under the bumper as the photo you sent in. Therefore, I'm inclined to say that you do have a tow package, but it's not active because there's no harness. So, you can use the # C56RV to add a 4-way flat, but if you're needing to tow a trailer with brakes you will still need to use the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controllers part # ETBC7 to have a 7-way and 4-way flat. If you don't plan on towing a trailer with brakes, then you can use just the C56RV as you'll only need the 4-way flat for the trailer lights. The factory plugs to plug the module and other wires into is located behind the rear driver's side panel and will require the panel to be removed to access them. If you don't feel comfortable removing the panel or don't have certain tools, I would recommend taking it to a shop so they can assist you. I've included the link to the video as well so you can watch the install to see what'll be required for it.
