Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee we'll be installing the Draw-Tite hitch, part number 75338. Here's what our hitch will look like once it's installed. Next I'll give you a couple of measurements that will assist your selecting accessories such as a ball mount, bike rack or cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch-pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 2 3/4 inches. From the top of the receiver-tube opening to the ground is 18 1/4 inches. We'll now ahead with installation. To begin our install, we'll first go ahead and take a look at our hitch. Our hitch is going to have a total of 4 attachment points.

This is the weld-nut of the attachment point here on the backside. On the frontside are pre-drilled holes. To secure our hitch, we're using a half-inch bolt, a half-inch conkle-tooth washer. The teeth of the washer will face the hitch. Also a half-inch flat washer that acts as a spacer. To install the hitch, it's easier to go ahead and remove the spare tire before you attempt to put your hitch and hardware in place.

In this application, the spare tire has already been removed, so we'll go ahead and point out the attachment points for our hitch. Here in the vehicle's cross-member, or bumper frame, are 4 pre-drilled holes for our hitch. This is where we'll line up the pre-drilled holes in the hitch and then install our hardware. Before we put the hitch in place, we're going to go ahead and remove 2 pushpin fasteners. There's one on each side. These pushpin fasteners help hold the rear fascia to the steel bumper.

To remove them, we'll take a flat-blade screwdriver and just pry out on the center of the fastener til we can free it up. Once we get the center of the fastener out, we'll just go ahead and remove the fastener completely. Some applications instead of pushpin fasteners will be rivets. For those applications, included in the hardware will be new pushpin fasteners to replace the rivets. Now with our 2 pushpin fasteners out, you can see we have a little more flexibility here with the rear fascia. Next we'll go ahead and put our hitch in place and line it up with the attachment points.

Once in position, I'm just going to take one of my bolts and put it into the frame. That will hold the weight of the hitch. Supplied with the install kit will be enough flat washers to put 2 per attachment point if necessary. For this application, we're only going to need 1 per attachment point. I"ll start by getting the flat washer lined up in place, then put my bolt in position. Once we have the bolt in place, I'll go ahead and tighten it down finger-tight. We'll do that for each of our attachment points until all our hardware is in place. Once all our fasteners are in place, we'll go ahead and tighten them down. Once we have the fasteners tightened down, we can go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now we have our hitch tightened down and torqued to specifications, we'll go ahead and put the plastic pushpin fasteners back in place. With that, in just a few quick steps we've gone ahead and completed the install of our Draw-Tite Class 3 2-inch receiver-tube hitch, part number 75338 on our 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee. .

I installed my new Draw-Tite hitch last weekend. I'm very satisfied with the quality construction. This hitch rated at 750 lb. tongue weight cost less than another brand rated at 500 lb. tongue weight. The installation was a little challenging as it is difficult to get all the holes lined up so the bolts take a thread and tighten. No worries about this one coming loose or breaking. Great hitch and at a great price. 580404

The whole kit was awesome and so was the price. Ordered it on a Thursday and received it the following Wednesday. It is an easy install but not 30 minutes for 1st timers. If you do it all the time then yeah, if not, take your time. Shim the hitch properly and take extra care in routing the wires so you won't be doing it again, i.e. watch for sharp edges on frame and/or body and wires close to exhaust. Another obvious one, but for people doing something like this for the 1st time, don't use the bolts to line up the hitch holes. Use a long screwdriver or something so you don't mess up the threads on the bolts and/or hitch. 196543

After a year, the durable finish has not worn at all and everything functions like the day I installed it. Forgot to mention when I installed it that watching the install video was really helpful and took any guesswork out of the job and made it so much easier.

The Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Hitch receiver is well built, heavy duty, and fits my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee like it was made for it, because it was. The hardest part of the installation was moving the rear (plastic) bumper out of the way because I didn't know how that was attached. After a few minutes of struggling, I decided I didn't care if it ever went back on, and getting the receiver in position then became easy. Everything lined up as designed and I was done in about a half-hour. Miracles of miracles the rear bumper is still intact and perfectly in place. The receiver looks and works very well and I recommend it to anyone looking to put their vehicle to use hauling boats to and from the water. Stay Safe! 717690

It’s been a whole year since I installed this hitch from etrailer and although I don’t use it that often, it still looks and works great! Also saved about [price] by installing this product instead of the dealer hitch. Install was easy due to the great instructions that came with it. Keep up the good work etrailer! 699262

Little difficult to install by your self, much easier with 2 people. Material rusted a little bit but other than that it is holding up very well. Highly recommend over taking it somewhere to get a aftermarket hitch put on. Best bang for your buck . 611093

Comments

For minor scratches and to prevent rusting we generally recommend a high quality spray paint. Just make sure you remove the existing surface rust, and dont seal it in. I have also included a help article for your reference.

Bought this model as recommended through etrailer.com for our 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee, to tow our utility "old jeep" trailer for Runs to the dump, or trips to home improvement stores. the installation was easy, just under 60 minutes to install, as the instructions suggested, (4) bolts, washers, threads directly into the Factory threaded bolt holes in the back section in the frame. Made very well, rugged, should last for years! 610845

The process couldn't have been easier. First - the online shopping...I checked a couple of sources and ETrailer had the best selection and best prices so I decided to buy. The check out process was quick & simple and I had the hitch in about 2 days. There were written directions in the box but I found a YouTube video that showed the installation in a few minutes. I took about 30 minutes to install the hitch but I could probably do it in 15 minutes the 2nd time. In my opinion they have been tested and proven so the next time that I need a trailer hitch I will just automatically go to the ETrailer website. 576638

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Hitch That Fits a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo
  • Each of the hitches you mentioned, the Curt # 13251 and Draw-Tite # 75338 will fit a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo; the only models they will not fit are the SRT-8. I recommend going with the Draw-Tite # 75338 because it has a tongue weight capacity of 750 lbs, which is 250 lbs more than the Curt hitch. I've added a photo showing how this hitch looks on a Laredo for you to take a look at. To add a 4-way connector you will need wiring harness # 118425 if your Jeep does not have...

  • Adding a Brake Controller to a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • I'd be happy to help clear up any confusion; because you do not have the factory tow package you are going to need to install a few parts in order to use an electric brake controller. You will need to start by adding the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118425. From there you'll need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7, which will give you the 7-pin connector to allow you to use your trailer's electric brakes. Finally,...

  • Should I Choose a Class II or Class III for my 2008 Jeep Commander Sport 3.7L V6
  • We always recommend choosing a 2 inch hitch, Class III or higher, if one is available. As you pointed out, your Commander will have a lower towing capacity than other models and the hitch will be capable of more than the vehicle. If your vehicle can handle more than 3,500 pounds total trailer weight, you will have already limited yourself with the 1-1/4 inch Class II. Additionally, there are far more accessories available for 2 inch hitches than 1-1/4 inch hitches. This includes hitch covers,...

All of the trailer hitches we offer include the hardware specified by the manufacturer's engineers. This is rarely (if ever) stainless steel. • If you look at the back of your 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee and see a wiring connector that looks like the Tow Ready Wiring harness part # 20135 then you have a 7-way. Another option you could have is a 4-way which would look like part # 18172, or you might not have any connector at all. To add a 4-way you would first want the Tow Ready Wiring harness part # 118394. You will need to check the hitch on your vehicle to make sure it has the correct weight capacity. Also, if you can add weight distribution to your hitch, to tow your 7,000 lb. trailer. The class or weight...

  • Will I need to cut bumper to install hitch 75338 on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd.?
  • You will not need to cut the bumper fascia. You will need to pull the fascia rearward about one inch to raise the hitch into position. The instructions say that on vehicles with the OEM tow hook, the tow hook must be permanently removed for hitch installation. I have included links to the instructions and to a video that shows installation of this hitch on a similar vehicle.

  • Replacing 1-1/4-Inch Factory Hitch With 2-Inch Class III Hitch on 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • There is only one location on any given vehicle's frame to properly attach a hitch receiver. The location on your 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee where the existing 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch is installed is the same place that Class III hitch # 75338 will mount. This 2-inch hitch installs without drilling using the included hardware and will sit in essentially the same spot as the current hitch tube. I have linked an installation video for you. If you need a 4-pole trailer wiring harness for...

  • Draw-Tite Class III vs OEM Class IV Hitch for a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • The biggest and realistically the most important difference between a Class III and IV hitch would be the capacities. They both have 2 inch openings and the same accessories can be used between the two. Typically Class IV hitches will have higher capacities than a Class III hitch. I attached an FAQ on hitch classifications for you to check out also. For your situation the only actual difference between the Draw-Tite part # 75338 you referenced and the OEM hitch you are also considering...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch, Brake Controller And Wiring For 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • To install a brake controller on your 2010 Grand Cherokee, I first recommend installing a 4-way wiring harness like part # 118425. This simply plugs into the connection points behind the tail lights on your Jeep. The brake controller I recommend is part # 90195. This is one of our most popular because it is easy to install and operate. You will also need additional wiring to complete the trailer wiring and brake installation. I recommend part # ETBC7. This attaches to the 4-way...

  • Weight Distribution For 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • A weight distribution system is not a vehicle specific item. As long as the hitch included with the tow package on your Grand Cherokee is compatible with weight distribution, and Jeep makes no prohibitions about using weight distribution, you can certainly use the properly rated system. In order to recommend the correct system for you, I will need to know the fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer, plus the weight of anything stowed in the cargo area behind the rear...

  • 2006 Jeep Commander Trailer Hitch, Brake Controller, and Weight Distribution Recommendation
  • On your 2006 Jeep Commander you will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 118408. From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well. For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885....

  • What Do I need to Prepare a 2007 Jeep Commander for Towing.
  • I would use a Class III receiver hitch with a 2 inch opening. The Class III hitches will have more capacity and available accessories than the Class II hitches available for the 2007 Jeep Commander. We have 5 different hitches that will fit your Commander. I have linked to a page that has all of them. None of the hitches we have for your Commander require drilling. A lot of Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler SUVs have started using hitches that are designed to bolt to the integrated frame bumper like...

  • Does a Ball Mount and Hitch Pin Come with Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch 75338, 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • For Class III trailer hitches like the Draw-Tite, # 75338, the ball mount, pin and clips is not included because a Class III hitch does not require a specific ball mount. Lower Class hitches do require a specific ball mount so for many of them we will include it. There is always a recommended ball mount for a Class III hitch but in order to determine the right one for your needs you will want to measure for the rise or drop required to tow the trailer level. What you will do is measure...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • The bumper beam is one of the strongest structural components of a vehicle so a hitch that attaches to it, such as # 75338 for your 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee, will be very sturdy and secure as well. The hitch will provide you the ability to use the full towing capacity of your Jeep up to the capacity of the trailer hitch. Consult the owner's manual for the towing capacities of the Jeep. I have linked a video showing an example installation for you. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend...

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring and Hitch for 2007 Jeep Commander Sport Rocky Mountain Edition
  • The Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118408 referenced in your question is confirmed to fit your 2007 Jeep Commander Sport Rocky Mountain Edition. There is not a fit exclusion with this particular trim package. The harness will work perfectly. It will install by plugging into factory ports behind the driver and passenger side tail lights to provide you with a 4-Way connector to power a trailer's basic signal lights. I have attached an installation video that you can use for reference. If...

  • Trailer Types that Can be Used with Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75338 for the 2005 Grand Cherokee
  • The Curt 2-Inch Class III trailer hitch that you referenced, part # 75338 for the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, can be used with any type of trailer that falls within the hitch's (and the Cherokee's) towing capacities. The different versions of the Grand Cherokee have varying towing capacities so you will want to check your owner's manual to verify what trailer weight your particular Grand Cherokee can tow. The 3.7L V6 Laredo, for example, can pull 6500-lbs when properly equipped. If you cannot...

  • Parts Needed to Tow Trailer with 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo
  • The best hitch for towing a trailer with your 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo is the Draw Tite part # 75338 because it has the highest towing capacities at 5,000 lb trailer weight and 750 lb tongue weight. It also installs very easily too. Check out the install video I attached for this hitch on a 2006 Grand Cherokee similar to yours. If you need a trailer wiring connector the 4-way kit part # 118381 is very easy to install on your vehicle. Since you plan on doing some towing you...

  • Availabillity of a Hitch for the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Rocky Mountain Edition
  • The Curt instructions do say that their hitch will not fit on the Rocky Mountain Edition vehicles. I spoke to my contact and was told that there is a bumper bracket that interferes with their hitch on that model. I checked with my contact at Reese, Draw-Tite and Hidden hitch and was told that their hitches will fit the Rocky Mountain edition. You can choose from any of their hitches on the page linked below. I would recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch, item # 75338, which we...
