Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2022 Ram 3500 Behind a Motorhome

I am needing everything to tow a 2022 Ram 3500 behind my motorhome. Can you provide me with what all is needed. Thank you.

To flat tow your 2022 Ram 3500 behind your motorhome you will need at least 5 main parts. Those would be a base plate kit, tow bar, safety chains, tow bar wiring, and supplemental braking system There may be additional parts needed, you will want to consult the owners manual for your Ram to ensure you are following all requirements/recommendations for flat towing your Ram 3500. I have included each needed part below, along with a brief descriptions and recommendation.

Base Plate Kit: This is what the tow bar coming from your motorhome is going to connect to. I recommend the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-522204-5. This kit is confirmed to fit your Ram 3500, is made in the USA and has a limited lifetime warranty.

Tow Bar: This is what will attach to the hitch on your motor home and then connect to the base plate kit to tow your Ram. I recommend the etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate # e84ZR. You will also need the Base Pins with Chains and Clips # RM-910029 to attach the tow bar to the base plate kit. This tow bar is the highest weight rated tow bar we have for a 2" hitch, with a weight capacity of 10,500 lbs. It is made in the USA and has a limited lifetime warranty. This tow bar also includes the safety chains, so you will not need to get them separately.

Tow Bar Wiring: This allows you to use your Ram 3500's tail lights and wiring system while preventing feedback from your RV. I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This kit is made in the USA and has a limited lifetime warranty.

Supplemental Braking System: This is what is going to allow you to safely travel with and stop your Ram 3500 while flat towing. I recommend the Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # DM86VR. This is made in the USA and gives you automatic, proportional braking with a system that never has to be removed, replaced, or reset.

You may also need a high-low adapter to make your tow set up level. I have included a help article that goes over how to determine if an adapter is needed and what size adapter you need if on is needed. I have a 20 year old Blackhawk 10k tow bar that I’ve used to to my 1500 ram. I just bought a new 3500 ram that I’m thinking of towing also. Does the tow bar have a life expectancy where you suggest rebuilding or replacement. It’s only going to be used sporadically but I know it’s heavier and the bar is older. Any info please.

@Gerard Honestly there is not a set life expectancy for a tow bar. If they are well taken care of they could be kept in working order for 20+ years. That said, we do offer a repair kit for the Blackhawk tow bar part # RM-910003-60. This replaces all of the hardware and Autowlok buttons. You can use that with the Roadmaster Base Plate # RM65DQ which is for the 2025 Ram 3500. Are you needing the rest of the parts for your flat tow setup? Let me know
