I have a 2008 Avalanche that I bought new right off the showroom floor. I’ve been told several times and at least once by Chevrolet that the Avalanche Cannot be flat towed or it will cause transmission issues. In fact Chevrolet told me it should Only be towed on a flatbed truck. ??

Hey Will. I checked with our vendors and your 2008 Chevy Avalanche can indeed be flat towed so long as it is a 4WD model equipped with a 2-speed transfer case that has a Neutral position. You'll want to verify your Avalanche is equipped properly and check the flat towing setup steps in your owner's manual to confirm.
Here are the parts you'll need to flat tow your 2008 Chevy Avalanche:
Tow Bar and Safety Chains - etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate item # e84ZR
Base Plate Kit - Roadmaster Direct-Connect - Removable Arms item # 3154-3
Wiring Harness - Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit item # RM-15267
Supplemental Braking System - Blue Ox Patriot Portable item # BLU37TR
High Low Adapter - The tow bar needs to be within 3" of level. If you measure the height of the inside top of the hitch receiver tube on your RV, and the height difference is more than 3 inches above/below the base plate tab height, you'll need a high/low adapter.
