CU9 Pedal and Quick-Release Buttons

Konig's Easy Fit snow chains are supremely simple to use. No more crawling around on the cold ground or getting wet and dirty on the side of the road. Just drape the chain around your tire and step on the pedal on the front, center bar until it clicks in place at the bottom. No need to reach around your tires to connect chain sections. No need to drive forward or back to center chains.

To remove the Easy Fit chains, simply press the red buttons at the middle and at the bottom of the center element to release the tension, and then unwrap the chain from around the tire.

Konig snow chains are handmade in Italy of hardened manganese nickel alloy steel for ultimate durability. The dual-sided, 10-mm-diameter, D-shape links provide superior traction for excellent grip on snow and ice. The center tensioning element on each Easy Fit chain is made of rustproof aluminum for lasting effectiveness. Anti-scratch nylon bumpers on the chain and soft-touch fabric on the center bar protect your vehicle's rims.

Included with each pair of chains is a sturdy, nylon container that unfolds into a kneeling mat. Mounting instructions are printed on the inside of the storage bag, making them easily visible every time you install the chains. Konig's Easy Fit tire snow chains are backed by a 5-year warranty.

How to Install the Easy Fit SUV Snow Chain

CU9 Installation

  1. Open the rigid arch section of the chain and pull the sides apart.
  2. Drape the chain over the top of the tire and tug down to fit it all the way around the bottom.
  3. Swing the pedal out and step on it, pushing it down the track of the center bar until it clicks in place at the bottom.
  4. Flip the pedal up into the travel position to lock in place.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chains, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

185/60-15

  1. (185) - indicates the width
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

I have driven on these chains for a year. Here are my thoughts. They are probably good for someone who just needs to drive on a chain to get from their chalet to the ski lift while looking fly. However we own land in the mountains of Colorado about three miles up a private road that is unmaintained. We routinely face 6-8 inch drifts, steep inclines, and hairpin turns. When you can actually get this chain on, it works fine. However, after the first time, you will basically never get this chain on properly again. The first time I put them on, I was in love. Then I tried to take them off after getting a mix of heavy snow and dirt into the release canal. When you hit the quick release, it goes up about a quarter of the way, and you have to reach behind the wheel and pull to get the wire to release. From there, everything goes downhill. The wire stretches a little from having to pull it off the wheel. Then when you step on the quick tighten, it tightens, unless the snow underneath is too icy/firm, then it only tightens sort of. You can take it off and retry, but that loosens the wire a little bit more. Soon enough, the chain isn't actually tight against the wheel. But it stays on. Which is fine if you don't spin. But if you hit a spot where you spin, then the chain goes shooting off the back like a bola. You can put it back on, but it doesn't ever tighten down well enough again. Last time I went up to our property, I got in fine, losing one chain along the way, but when I tried to get out, got stuck three times because I couldn't keep the chains on my tires. Trying to get them on in deep snow, under tire spun icy snow, don't bother. TL;DR, great if you have to use them once or twice in cute, clean, snow. Anything of actual need, get different chains.

Comments
These chains will be a solid choice for moderate snow and ice. They will not work as well as a heavier chain for heavy snow however they only require 10 mm of clearance to install. They are designed to securely stay on the tire. I recommend viewing our video install on a 2019 Toyota Highlander.

I'm giving these 3 stars because they were difficult to install in deep spring mush, and broke when I tried to get myself unstuck. I give them 1 star for that use. Absolutely did not work. Though I didn't get a chance to try this, I think they'd be fairly convenient to install in a chain up area to get over high mountain passes. So I'll give them a generous and hypothetical 5 stars for that, and average my rating to 3 stars.

Comments
Sorry to hear this. I am wanting to know how these chains broke on you. We actually have an install video of how these fit on a 2019 Toyota Highlander so I am wondering if they fit just as well for you. The actual install starts at the 7:15 mark:

I appreciate the email sierra - I have not had them out since they broke last winter and can’t remember exactly where they broke. But I’ll take a look when I get home after New Years and would be happy to let you know. I did watch the videos but the red cable just would not pull all the way underneath the tire without reinstalling a couple times.
-- comment by: Mark - 12/30/2021
Comments
Yes, it can be tricky keeping the red cable secure under the tire during installation. I would tuck it under the tire as best as possible then connect it to the red hook in the back. Give the chains a pull so that you know that you have secured it well enough.

Pontiac Montana

For such a large chain, this is so easy to fit and remove. I used it only Subaru Ascent on a winter trip to Montana driving on packed snow, unplowed backcountry roads and some ice. Worked perfectly every time

These chains are truly magical! On our first trip up to the mountains, the snow started suddenly coming down on us before the CHP could even get out there to set up chain controls. Traffic slowed unexpectedly to a stop, and our tires began to spin. We were stuck in the middle of the road. Out we popped, put on our chains, and about 3 minutes later we were (easily) moving past all the other people putting on their chains. We were literally alone on the road while everyone else got their chains on. They were that fast! Because of the weather conditions, we actually had to take them off and then put them back on two additional times on that drive, which would have been really miserable with any other chains.

I do have a couple things to be aware of:
1) You need to line the tires up perfectly in order to get them off, so it helps to have a second person to tell you when to stop.
2) During one of our installations, as we started to drive off we heard an odd sound. I got out to check and one of the tensioners had come undone, because a clip had come off of it. I was able to find the clip and get it back on, and we didn't have any further trouble - however we later inspected all the clips and saw that that one (as well as one other) did not look quite right. Worried that we would run into trouble on another trip, I called etrailer.com first - they directed me to call the company. I did, and the company was so helpful! I had taken photos of the broken chain and they quickly approved my warranty claim based on those photos and sent me a new set, in time for our next trip! We are now always careful to put the chains on, drive a few feet (so that they tighten) and then make sure they are on securely.

I still give them 5 stars - they are fantastic chains.

Comments
Due to the lack of snow in our area, I have only used them one other time so far. But I’m still really glad we have them and everything in my review I still agree with.

We honestly haven't used them yet but are so happy to have them. You never know when you will need them. We did try them on and they were easy to assemble and fit well.

Review from a similar Easy Fit in Tire Chains

They broke the first time I used them. I hadn't had to use them until almost a year after purchasing them and when I did the cable snapped after about 20 miles. I was almost left stranded on a mountain at 1:30am with no cell phone service in the snow. Thankfully I was able to make it slowly and safely off the mountain without chains the rest of the way, but just barely.

I feel confident that I applied them correctly based on the instructions and website videos, so I believe they were defective.

I'm still trying to contact Konig to have them replaced, but the responses I'm getting are half in English and half something else even though I chose English. So I'm pretty frustrated with the customer service on Konig's end at this point.

Review from a similar Easy Fit in Tire Chains

We live at 8400ft in Colorado and have a 22% driveway. In deep snow (regularly 12"+) the chains allow us to climb out with no problem. Easy on/off, just minutes and less messy in work clothes than ladder style chains. Have not used them for long duration on the road, only to extract vehicles or to climb in/out of our steep driveway.

Review from a similar Easy Fit in Tire Chains

Extraordinarily simple to install. Right out of the box, without reading instructions I tried a test fit-up. Less than a minute to fasten to my SUV, I'm almost looking forward to "chains required" on an upcoming trip.
Fast service, shipped out and delivered in 1-1/2 days, and finally... this product is well worth the price unless you savor kneeling in the snow and sleet for 30 minutes wrestling with less expensive conventional chains.

I've tried them on as soon as I got them. Very easy installation. However I was having trouble getting them off. I had to call customer support. We eventually figured it out, but it would be helpful to have your videos demonstrate taking them off, too.

I must say I was skeptical about easy installation. I am pleased to say these chains were EASY AND FAST to put on. Not disappointed at all. It’s worth the extra money and this chain will work on my pickup truck and Jeep Grand Cherokee, so not that costly after all. Highly recommended

Easy to install. I taught my wife and daughter how to install the snow chains in less than 1 minute. They were able to install and remove the snow chains by themselves easily. Point to note: the removal process requires some hand strength to pinch the two red tabs down and not get hit by the tension shuttle springing up. Also, the snow chains tension had to be released when I opened the box. Other than these two relatively minor issues, I'm a satisfied customer.

My order was received on time and in perfect condition. In preparation for our trip to Tahoe, we did a practice installation. However, by the time we got to the mountain passes the Chain restrictions were lifted, but we felt confident the whole trip knowing how easy the on-off would be.

They worked as expected. Quick to install, quick to take off. They have a bigger footprint in storage bag due to the self tensioning mechanism, but its worth it to be able to take them on/off so easily.

Review from a similar Easy Fit in Tire Chains

Outstanding product and price. I was able to put these on the tires in what was likely about 1.5 minutes per tire! My wife and daughter can install these without any trouble, which was a main point in purchasing the Konig easy fit, self tensioning system. Not as heavy as the chains on my 4wd vehicles, but for my Mazda CX9 with not a lot of room in the fender well, these are among the few options out there that are made of real chain, and not a cable. These chains are available elsewhere online at about $120 more than I paid at etrailer, and they showed up within a few days of ordering. I added my own kneeling pad and leather gloves to the bag that contains the chains.

FANTASTIC!
I'm an "old guy" with arthritis
so when I got my Ford F-150 stuck (for the first time in 20 years) I was concerned. I have two sets of heavy duty "ladder" chains, which I only used once and am no longer agile or flexible (or young enough) to wrestle with. So after sliding off an icy road and getting stuck for several hours; I researched various different chains that I could easily manage and could save me a day of trouble. etrailer.com was great, discussed my options with me, understood my concerns, made a range of recommendations and offered a great price.
These are certainly not the cheapest chains out there but I think they are the best, especially if you are somewhat physically challenged. Sure the price caused me to hesitate but when I consider what I just went through and my needs these were the best choice. As one reviewer said, "hope I never have to use them". I agree AND I now have something I can use to help me if I ever get stuck again. They are magnificent, engineered to work well and last. They have the best chain pattern and materials on the market, are lightweight and above all else incredibly easy to put on / take off.
I did as suggested and put them on for a trial run, they work as promised, amazingly well.
I am delighted with my decision and hope I never have to use them but living in the Rocky Mountains one has to be prepared and now I feel confident I can manage just about anything that happens.

Exceptional product. Use same set on 2015 Land River and 2016 Toyota Tacoma. We drive from Portland to Timberline on most weekends to ski during winter season. Easy to put on and take off. Provides excellent traction; have experienced no issues. We put them on so quickly that others around us are clearly wondering how we do so. LOL....worth the investment would not do it any other way.

Mad Props to Caleb H for saving the day! He made sure my EZ-install Thule chains arrived in time to get me and my boo safely to a romantic, snowbound location this Valentine's Day. Chains are key in the Redwoods because Winter means twisty roads, slippy conditions, and CHP Chain Checkpoints. Snow chains = snow love!

  • Comparing Tire Chains and Cables for 2016 Jeep Cherokee with Tire Size 245/65-17
Tire chains are the best for deep snow. Snow tires do a great job but there's nothing that works better in super deep snow than chains. Cables are basically a one-time use chain that's bargain priced. For your tire size of 245/65-17 the cable set part # PW3010C will work great to get you out of an emergency situation but if you plan to use chains more than a few times these won't hold up long enough to be a worthy investment. These are best for potentially one time use but mainly to get...

  • Will the Glacier Cable Chains # PW2029C Give me Enough Clearance on My 2016 Lincoln MKX?
I have a really good tire chain solution for you. Unfortunately, I confirmed with Pewag (the makers of the tires) that the cables in # PW2029C have a thickness of 12.33mm. This will not give you the 10mm or less that you need for your 2016 Lincoln MKX's front 245/60-18 tires. However, the best option for a 10mm clearance requirement is the Konig Self-Tension, Low-Pro Snow Chains - Diamond Pattern - D Link - Easy Fit SUV # TH04115250. These particular chains only require 10mm of internal...

  • Do Tire Chains for 2018 Toyota Highlander Include Rim Protection Feature
The 2018 Highlander can come with a 19-inch stock tire size, 245/55-19. For this tire size we offer many chains but none with the rim protection feature. For the smaller available tire size 245/60-18 we do offer two chain options that have rim protection to avoid scratches, Konig Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains # TH01594250 and their Low-Pro chains # TH04115250. But these do not fit your 19-inch rims. I checked the online owner's manual for the 2018 Highlander and it indicates on page...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 245/45R/20 Tires on a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E
The correct Konig Easy Fit tires chains for the 245/45R/20 tires on your 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is 250 # TH04115250. Please note that it's always a good idea to look up any chain instructions in your owner's manual. When I looked up your owner's manual online it said to avoid using chains on the 245/45R/20 tire size. Generally this is due to clearance issues on the inside of the tire. If this is the case and you are still determined to use chains then you might consider going with...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2018 Audi Q5 that Wont Damage Rims Size 235/55-19
The yellow links on the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC2317 are not plastic coated. The coloring is to help you install the chains. It makes it easier to know which portion of the chains is the inside and outside when draping them over the tire. The ultimate in rim protection for your tire size of 235/55-19 is the Konig tire chains part # TH02230K66. These don't touch the rim at all so you'd not have to worry about damage at all. The easiest to install set of chains we offer that...

  • Snow Chain Recommendations for Tire Size 245/60-18
Since I don't know what year Honda CR-V you have I can't look up the owners manual to see what is recommended for tire chains. So what you can do is grab the manual and check out the snow chains section and if there are any restrictions they will be listed. I like to flip to the end of the manual and use the index at the end to find what page that will be on as that seems to be the easiest way. For your tire size of 245/60-18 the option I recommend the highest is the Konig Easy Fit Chains...
