Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Shipping was lightning fast. Only issue was one of the tires was compressed and not flat in the box. Made it a little difficult to install on rim. But besides that, awesome experience. Tires were replacing 20yr old tires on pontoon trailer

by:

Super service. Fast delivery of trailer tires and rim. E trailer carried size and product item I had difficulty finding elsewhere.

by:

Received the order today and I must say the ordering, shipping and customer service is outstanding. Now about the product. The galvanized finish on both wheels leaves a lot to be desired. The single tire appears to be slightly deformed but I think that is just from packaging. One of the rims also has a slight bend near the tire bead. The dot code shows that all three tires are at least a year old. I will mount the tires on my trailer next weekend and attempt to have the single tire mounted on my spare wheel. I will give a rating after I see how they work. I'm not trying to be picky but I expected a little better considering they are new.

by:

These tires are exactly what I needed. I appreciate the way Etrailer kept me informed, every step of the way, on my order. I just had them mounted and installed them on my pontoon trailer today. Winter in MN so it's going into storage till spring! All looks good and will let you know how it all works out in the spring. Great service and fast delivery!

by:

Better price than my local shops and fast free shipping.

Tires are still doing well. Didnt get too many miles last year but they are holding air.

by:

Order went smooth and product came on time. Thank you for your good service.
For your account records I made the order in my Wife's name and you sent it to Daniel. My name is Will. Assume my son Daniel must have ordered from you in the past and you picked up his name from your records. Our son, Daniel, died four years ago and we miss him very very much. Please update your records. Thank you.

by:

Have not utiilized them yet just put them into use this week . They will be stronger and perform better than the smaller tires with lower high way rating speed

by:

by:

great tires

by:

As ordered and pretty fast! But it did take me 1/2 and hour to bend the tires back into shape! lol...maybe a box that is 2" wider?

by:

Good tires. Valves stems where to big for the holes in the rims

by:

These were the exact fit, style, and brand that I was looking for to replace the dry rotted tires on my 2 place Sea-doo Triton trailer. Shipped the same day I placed the order!

by:

Really nice tires! They were tougher to mount than the B load rating I was replacing, but I am happy with them. I have been a customer of etrailer in the past and they have been great to work with.

by:

Very good service, fast delivery,Not the first time I bought Thur you and will be buying again THANKS

by:

Appear to be good value for 8 ply tire

by:

I think you guys are great. Product description was key to my decision to purchase this item.

by:

Good product and quick shipment. I would buy tires through etrailer again.

by:

Excellent support and excellent people. I Wasn't sure what tire I needed and they helped me pick the best one and explained everything about the tires.

by:

I am very pleased with the product I received from etrailer. I received a courtesy call from Kelly at etrailer to inform me that the tires I ordered would be about a week late because the item was "out of stock". True to her word the tires shipped on or before her committed date. They arrived and I've already got them mounted waiting to leave for Colorado. Thanks so much.
I will definitely be ordering future items from etrailer.

Patrick I am just now getting to use them up here in Colorado. I pulled frm Texas up here with no problems. I am very pleased. As we speak I am in Ridgeway, Co with the camper. Thanks for the follow up. There are few vendors that follow up on their products after a year. Hats off to you and your company. Etrailer has always served me well. God bless you and Im praying you have a wonderful day.

by:

First they were back-ordered for many months. Winter now in Pa. so boat is in storage & tires won't be installed for months. Concerned about their condition - they are very mis-shapen and crushed somehow. Maybe packaging from manufacturer. They are NOT nice round tires that will go right onto a wheel. We'll see if the tire installer has any issues with that seating the beads and inflating the tires. Looks potentially like an issue to me. They are the correct size.

The wheels should take shape fine after they are seated on a wheel.

by:

The tires have just been installed on our 'SnowBear' trailer, as a result I do not know how they will hold up over time. The 8 ply Kendas (load range D) are replacing Carlisle (load range C). They appear well made, the price was excellent, the shipment arrived very quickly and the customer service was outstanding.

is st145r12 wider than a 5-30-12

Patrick B.

9/25/2013

An ST145/XX-R12 measure about 5.71 inches wide. As the name implies, a 5.30-12 is 5.3 inches wide. The difference in width is less than half an inch, but there is a difference you should be aware of.

by:

Received the two trailer tires that I ordered, tires look good, mounted them, and replaced the worn out ones on my trailer, Haven't had time to use the trailer as yet, but the price is good and the free shipping was relatively fast. So far I'm very pleased with the merchandise.

Joe E.

4/7/2015

Tires still just fine.

by:

The tires were delivered a day of the projected delivery date. That was great. I also ordered a bearing kit which was delivered as well. Unfortunately for me I only ordered one bearing kit, I have two wheels, duh. I will be putting the tires on in the spring, too cold now but I am ready. Great service from a great company. Thanks!!!!

1/18/2017

I had the tires mounted last year before any camping was done. My first trip was about 250 miles each way and they held up well. The second trip was about 400 miles each way and they still did well. I was pleased with my purchase. Even the date of manufacture on the tire was only a couple of months old, so I knew they were fresh tires.

by:

Shipping was quick. Packaging was great. I have only used these tires once so far, so dont know about how they will wear, but the load range D runs a lot cooler than the C that I used to buy for the same trailer.

Jim M.

I use these tires on a trailer gathering firewood. I have hauled heavy loads over rough ground and ran at highway speeds on the road This tire WORKS.

by:

They had the tires I was looking for and I received them fast. Thanks for the great service!

  • 5.30-12 Trailer Tire Recommendation for Pop Up Camper
We sell trailer tires individually and premounted on trailer rims. If all you need is a tire in the 5.30-12 tire size that you referenced you would want the # AM10068. This is a Load Range D with 1,205 lbs of capacity when the tire is inflated to 105 psi. Trailer tires should always be inflated to their max psi. If a trailer tire is inflated to a lower air pressure than the maximum, the amount of weight that the tire can carry will be reduced. If a heavier load is put on the trailer tire...

  • Recommended Tire Pressure for Kenda # AM30670 Tire
I would strongly recommend you keep your tires inflated to their maximum psi which is 90 psi. If a trailer tire is inflated to a lower air pressure than the maximum, the amount of weight that the tire can carry will be reduced. I attached an FAQ article on trailer tires for you to check out as well.

  • Are Kenda K353 Tires A Good Replacement For Loadstar 5.30-12 Tires
Yes, the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10068 you referenced has the same dimensions, ply rating, and capacity as your Loadstar tires, making them a perfect replacement option for your trailer.

  • Replacement Tires for 4x6 Trailer With 5.30-12 Tires
What you have there is a 5.30-12 tire on a 12" wheel with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. When replacing tires on your trailer it is best to stick with the same size unless it is no longer available. For a replacement I recommend the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 5.30-12 # AM10068. This tire has a maximum load of 1,250 lbs at 105 psi. It also comes with a 5 year warranty and 1 year worry-free guarantee. If within the first 12 months the tire is damaged in any way, it will be replaced at no charge.

  • Availability of 12 Inch Tires and Wheels For a Dual Axle Travel Trailer
A 5.30-12 size tire with a 6-ply rating (load range C) has a maximum load capacity of 1,045 lbs at 80 psi. So four of those tires on your travel trailer will have a combined load capacity of 4,180 lbs. If you go to a 8-ply rated tire ( load range D) in the 5.30-12 size the maximum load capacity is 1,250 lbs at 105 psi. Four of the 8-ply rated tires would have a combined load capacity of 5,000 lbs. This does not mean you can carry more weight, because you will still be limited by other parts...

  • Can a 5.30-12 Trailer Tire Replace a 4.80-12 Trailer Tire Using the Same Rim
Yes, the 4.80-12 tire size and the 5.30-12 tire size are both designed to fit the same rim width of 4 inches. So the tire you would want would be the part # AM10068 to fit your current trailer rim. This tire is a Load Range D tire with a capacity of 1,250 lbs at 105 psi. I attached an FAQ on trailer tires as well as a chart with trailer tire sizing information.

  • Tire Size that is Taller than 4.80-12 that Fits Same Wheel Size
For a replacement tire for the 4.80-12 tire size that will be larger in diameter the 5.30-12 size will be 1-1/2 inches taller. It will fit the same rim and would be the tallest option. For that you could go with the # AM10068 which I attached a review video for.

  • Tire Pressure for Load Range D 5.30-12 Kenda Bias Trailer Tire
The 105 psi is correct for the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10068. With trailer tires, you always want to inflate them to the maximum cold psi, which on this tire is the aforementioned 105. Doing this will give you the best performance, allowing the tire to wear slower and more evenly.

  • How Much Should Trailer Tires be Inflated on a 2000 Coleman Pop-up Camper
Trailer tires should be inflated to the maximum psi indicated on the tire. If your tires read 50 psi then that is what you will want to inflate them to. The trailer tires cannot reach their capacity rating unless inflated to the maximum. Trailer tires have a thick sidewall so if they are under inflated that thick sidewall can generate excessive heat and lead to tire failure. I have linked our help article on trailer tires for you.

  • Can a 155r13 Tire Fit in Place Of a 155r12 To Get The Trailer Home?
The correct replacement size for your 155r12 trailer tires is a 5.30-12 # AM10068. You will not be able to mount the 155r13 on the wheel as it fits on a larger wheel and will not seal properly. If your tire is already on a wheel which can bolt on you will need to measure to ensure you will still have enough clearance for the larger tire to not rub on any part of the trailer. This could cause a blowout if the tire does not have enough clearance. I also do not recommend driving fast or far...

  • 5.30-12 Tire Recommendation for a Livin Lite Quicksilver Pop Up
If you have a 5.30-12 tire size on your trailer currently I can safely recommend any of the 5.30-12 trailer tires we offer knowing that they will fit your rims. The part # AM10068 would be a great tire for you to use as it has a Load Range of D and will fit your rim. Generally speaking all 5.30-12 tire will fit either a 4 inch or 4-1/4 inch wide rim. Nearly all of these tires are mounted on 4 inch wide rims so I would be surprised if yours was a 4-1/4 inch wide rim.

  • Troubleshooting One Tire Wearing Out on a Tandem Axle Trailer
Typically when only one tire on a trailer wears out on a tandem axle trailer the problem is axle alignment. That would be the first place I would start. Other possible issues are damaged rim, damaged or worn suspension components, bent axle, bad wheel bearings, one brake assembly locking up when stopping and/or axle overloading.

  • Replacement Tire Recommendation for Pop Sized 5.30-12
The highest capacity trailer tire we offer in the size of 5.30-12 that you mentioned is the part # AM10068 which has a capacity of 1,250 lbs at 105 psi. This would be more than enough capacity for your trailer as the combined capacity of two of these tires is 2,500 lbs. You should note that you have to keep the tire inflated to it's max psi at all times to ensure that you get the full capacity.

These are bias ply tires, which are ideal for the load bearing required of a trailer since they have stronger sidewalls and will do just fine on your trip from NY to FL as long as you keep the tires properly inflated on your trip. The trailer tire part # AM10068 that you referenced has a capacity of 1,250 lbs per tire so if you have a trailer that weighs 1,500 lbs this would fit and work well since two of these tires (one per side of the axle) would give you a capacity of 2,500 lb as long as you kept the tire inflated to it's max psi rating.
