Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

  • Availability of Kenda K353 Tire Without Wheel And Higher Rated Valve Stem
Hey Bill! The tire that comes with the # AM30861 is the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 5.30-12 - Load Range D # AM10068. Valve stems do have pressure ratings but I don't have a way of knowing what your current valve stem can handle. 105 psi is on the high side so I'm glad you recognized this, and I do recommend swapping them to be safe. You can replace what you have now with the Americana Metal, Bolt-In Valve Stem # AM20906 which can handle up to 200 psi. If you need anything else feel...

  • Replacement Trailer Tire Recommendation for a 2004 Bass Tracker Panfish Boat Trailer
It sounds like you are overloading your current trailer tires or are pretty close to and should upgrade to a 5.30x12 tire with enough capacity. For that you would want the # AM10068 which has a capacity of 1,250 lbs at 105 psi per tire. Special trailer tires should be inflated to their maximum air pressure. If a trailer tire is inflated to a lower air pressure than the maximum, the amount of weight that the tire can carry will be reduced. If a heavier load is put on the trailer tire than...

  • Recommended Wheel/Tire Combo W/ a 4 on 4 Bolt Pattern
Dave, we do have a tire/wheel setup similar to the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10068 with the Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" Galvanized Wheel # AM30790. This wheel measures 12" diameter x 4" wide, has a 4 on 4 bolt pattern, and come with the Kenda bias ply tire that has a C load range.

  • Can a 5.30-12 Size Tire be Replaced with a ST145/R12 Size Tire
Since both a ST145/R12 size tire, like the Kenda Karrier S-Trail # AM10130, and a 5.30-12 size tire, like the Kenda K353 # AM10068, fit a 12 inch wheel, a ST145/R12 size tire can replace a 5.30-12 size tire. Keep in mind that these tires do have slightly different diameters and widths though, so you will want to do some measuring to make sure that the ST145/R12 tire will fit on your trailer. The 5.30-12 tire that you currently have has a section width of 5.3 inches and has a diameter...

  • Wider Replacement Option for a 4.80-12 Tire on a Jet Ski Trailer
The 4.80-12 tires you have on your jet ski trailer are 20.7" diameter x 4.9" wide. The best option we have to go with a larger width is a 5.30-12 tire which measures 21.9" diameter x 5.5" wide. For a 5.30x12 tire the highest rated option we have is the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM10068 which is rated for 1,250 lbs per tire. This particular tire has a 65 mph speed rating and it comes with a two year warranty.

  • How to Determine Correct Replacement Wheel/Tire Combo for 1995 Jayco Pop-Up Camper
The modern tire size for the 20.5 x 8.0-10 tire is 205/65-10. The exact wheel and tire combo you need will depend on the wheel bolt pattern used by your pop-up (4 lug on 4 inch bolt circle, 5 lug on 4-1/2 inch bolt circle or 5 lug on 5-1/2 inch bolt circle) as well as the load rating needed. You'll want to choose a two wheel/tires with a combined between the two load rating greater than the GVWR of the pop-up. The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating represents the maximum the pop-up can weigh...

Yes, the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10068 you referenced has the same dimensions, ply rating, and capacity as your Loadstar tires, making them a perfect replacement option for your trailer.

  • Will Switching 5.30-12 Bias Ply Tires for Radials Help Prevent Blowouts
A 5.30-12 Load Range C tire has a load capacity of 1045 lbs each or 2090 lbs per axle which is more than sufficient for a trailer/boat combination that weighs 1850 lbs. Excessive heat build up is the number one cause of premature tire wear and failure. Exceeding the weight capacity, not correctly inflating the tires and exceeding the tires speed rating can all cause the temperatures of a tire to spike to unsafe levels. First, I'd recommend you confirm the fully loaded and ready to tow...

  • Can a Trailer Tire with a Load Range B be Replaced with a Load Range C
The Load Ranges for trailer tires basically dictate the weight capacity range of the tire. I don't know what size you have, but there would be no reason you couldn't go from a Load Range B tire up to a Load Range C. I attached a couple help articles on trailer tires for you to check out as well.

  • Should I Upgrade From a 12 inch Tire to a 13 inch Tire on a Rockwood Freedom 2290 Trailer
I would recommend staying with the 12 inch 5.30-12 tire, like the Kenda K353 Trailer Tire, item # AM10068, for a couple of reasons. First, going with the larger, higher capacity tire will provide a stiffer ride for your trailer suspension and trailer. This will cause wear on the suspension parts. Next, going with a higher capacity larger wheel and tire than recommended by the manufacturer or axle capacity makes the trailer suspension the weakest link in the system. If a failure occurs...

  • Can 4.80-12 Trailer Tires be Upgraded to Larger Tires
So the rule of thumb with trailer tires is you want at least 3" of clearance from the top of the tire to your fender and at least 1" of clearance between the inside of the tire and your trailer's frame rail. Your current size 4.80-12 tires measure 4.8" wide and 20.5" in diameter, which you'll want to keep in mind. You can go to a larger tire, but it will need to be a 12" tire, with the biggest upgrade being a 5.30-12 tire: - Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire - 5.30-12 # AM10066 This tire measures...

  • Recommended Upgrade for Pop Up Camper with 5.30x12 Tires
The Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM10066 for load range c or part # AM10068 for load range d is what I recommend for a 5.30x12 trailer tire. These are excellent options backed by a five year warranty. They are rated for 1,045 lbs and 1,250 lbs respectively so make sure you choose the one that matches what you have now. These will be a much better option than the Hi-Run's you have now.

  • Can a 5.30-12 Trailer Tire Replace a 4.80-12 Trailer Tire Using the Same Rim
Yes, the 4.80-12 tire size and the 5.30-12 tire size are both designed to fit the same rim width of 4 inches. So the tire you would want would be the part # AM10068 to fit your current trailer rim. This tire is a Load Range D tire with a capacity of 1,250 lbs at 105 psi. I attached an FAQ on trailer tires as well as a chart with trailer tire sizing information.

  • Recommendation to Upgrade 5.30-12 Tires on Trailer
Sticking with the 5.30-12 tires size you could move to a load range D with the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10068. This would give you a maximum load of 1,250 lbs at 105 psi. However, the best upgrade you could make would be moving to a radial tire with the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 # AM10140. This tire will still fit your 12" x 4" rims and has a 21.3" outer diameter and 5.7" section width. This will likely give you a little extra clearance on the top while losing about 0.1"...

  • Can a 4.80-12 Tire Be Upgraded to a Larger and Higher Capacity Tire
There's no reason you couldn't upgrade your 4.80-12 Load Range B tires with Load Range C's like the part # AM10062. These would fit the exact same as your current tire with the only difference being that they have a higher Load Range. You could also go with a 5.30-12 like the part # AM10068 as long as you have room for a tire that is just a tiny bit taller and wider. This tire is 5.5 inches wide and 21.9 inches tall, whereas the 4.8-12s are 4.9 inches wide and 20.7 inches tall.

  • Will the 5.30-12 Trailer Size fit Same Rim as a 4.8-12 Tire
5.7.12 isn't a common trailer tire size. The closest size to that is the 5.3-12 which fits the same size rim as the 4.8-12. These two sizes fit 4 inch wide rims. For a trailer tire sized 5.30-12 that would fit your current rims you would want the part # AM10068.

  • Is Load Range Important When Replacing Trailer Tires on a Popup Camper
The load range tire used is going to depend on the gross trailer weight capacity, which should be on a sticker or plate near the front of the trailer frame or in the trailer's literature. It probably also indicates the load range, or at least the capacity, on your existing tires. For a 5.30-12 we have 3 different load ranges: B, C, and D. For a load range B use # AM10064. It is rated for 840 pounds at 55 psi. For a load range C we have # AM10066 rated for 1,045 pounds at 80 psi. And for...

  • Recommended Replacement Tires for Jayco Pop-Up Camper Trailer That Weighs 2000-lbs
We can help you select new 5.30-12 tires or this size tire pre-mounted on a 4-lug wheel if you prefer. All the 5.30-12 tires we offer are bias ply types; no radial tires are offered in this size. I suggest you use a Load Range D tire, part # AM10068 rated for 1,250-lbs at 105-psi pressure, since this will give you some safety margin. Tires that are operated conservatively - below their maximum capacity - will tend to run cooler and last longer. Heat is the enemy for any trailer tire. Radials...

This is a Load Range D with 1,205 lbs of capacity when the tire is inflated to 105 psi. Trailer tires should always be inflated to their max psi.
