Installation Step 2

2. Connect the yellow and blue cable at the back of the tire.

Installation Step 3

3. Push the cable into place behind the tire and center the cross chains on the tire's tread. Then, on the front side of the tire, join the 2 ends of the yellow side chain using the green hook.

Installation Step 4

4. Feed the silver draw chain with the rubber tensioner through the red channel at the bottom and pull it tight. Then run the tensioner through the red rings. (Note: Depending on your tire size, you might not be able to thread through both rings.) Pull the tensioner across the tire and fasten it to the yellow chain on the opposite side.

Installation Step 5

5. Pull your vehicle forward and retighten the chain.

Class "S" Designation

SAE Class "S" tire chains are designed for use on vehicles with restricted wheel well clearance. Certain newer cars, vans and small trucks, especially those with large, aftermarket tires, may require Class "S" chains.

SAE Class S Clearances

These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:

  • A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
  • B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle itself.

How to Choose Snow Chains for Your Vehicle

To choose the right snow chain, you must match your tire size. Those measurements can be found on the side of your tire, as shown below.

Tire size on sidewall

  1. (185) - indicates tire width in millimeters
  2. (60) - gives you the aspect ratio (sidewall height as percentage of width)
  3. (15) - denotes the diameter of the wheel rim in inches

Video Transcript for Titan Alloy Snow Tire Chains Review

Adam: Hi everyone, Adam with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be taking a look at Titan Chains Alloy Snow Tire Chains. One thing I do like about these tire chains compared to your ladder chains, we don't have any connection to make around back. A lot of the times underneath, we have the climb on the ground, go around back, and then connect it. This way it's just up top here so we don't have to get down in the snow. Because if you're putting snow tire chains on your tires, there's probably going to be snow on the ground.

You don't want to be rolling around in that.We do have some square links that are going to be made of manganese nickel alloy steel, so it's going to help resist rust and corrosion and just keep it from wearing down really quickly. It is SAE S Class certified, so it is going to give you a smooth ride and fit pretty well in your wheel well. It does have a diamond pattern, which is going to give you really good traction for stopping and acceleration. One thing I really do like about these tire chains is it does have a built in tensioner, which a lot of the times you're supposed to get these rubber tensioners that aren't attached to your chains, and I know I would probably lose them. Definitely it being completely attached to the chains is going to be a plus for me, just so you don't lose them. Also, this does have a speed rating of 30 miles an hour so we do suggest not going over that speed. It also comes with a pretty nice carrying case.

It's going to last a little bit longer than those canvas bags, those usually rip over time. This one, it's made of sturdier construction and has a zipper. You're going to keep your chains neat and organized in this case and you're not going to lose them. If you have an all wheel drive or four wheel drive application, all you really have to do is buy two sets. It does come in a pair of two and it's going to be the same exact installation process on both sides.

Let's just go ahead and get to it.The first thing we're going to want to do is lay out our chains and make sure there's no kinks in our links. If that's all looking good we can go ahead and fish this behind our tire. Once we have them back there we can put our hands in our wheel wells, grab both ends, and connect them. While we're back here, we're going to grab these chains and drape them over. We do want to make sure that this straight line here is going to be in the middle of our tire tread.

Once we have that set we can go ahead and take our green hook here to try to get it clipped on this yellow excess of chain.Once we get that and everything's nice and even, one thing I do want to note, you guys can see back in here, there's two different ends. We have the open section with these two pieces of metal. We want that facing away from our tire because we want to have that smooth part up against our rubber just so we don't damage our tires when in use.If all that checks out, you get this green hook connected, and then we can take our tensioning device which is actually built in, which is definitely a plus for me because I misplace stuff all the time, we're going to place it like so and give it a good tug and make sure it's nice and tight. Once we get that, we're going to go ahead and put them through these red loops. Once we do that, we'll come over here and connect them to the yellow part of our chain.Once we have all that set up, we want to make sure and see if it's tight, and if it is, we do recommend rolling over it a couple more times and then coming back out and make sure that tension stays as it is. If it is, we're ready to hit the road.Well everyone, thanks for tuning in and taking a look at our Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains.

Very easy to install these tire chains. Much easier than my old set. Good price and quick delivery. 727876

Unless your vehicle is garaged when you put these on, my experience was that they are more likely to fail. The ones I purchased broke after only 3 times trying to use them because I did not have a dry flat concrete pad when placing them on the tires. Putting them on when your traveling because the weather has turned is very difficult due to snow and ice build up around the tires as well as the snow packed roads don’t easily allow for the chains to go on evenly. 728100

Usually the case for the chains falls apart on the first use. This one is really going to last. Even though I have 4WD, there is steep terrain in my area and these chains are going to do the trick. 588803

I haven't had a chance to use them on the road, but was able to do a test fit, and they were straightforward to install per included instructions. It took me longer to untangle the second chain than it did to install both of them. I ended up separating the 2 sides of each chain using plastic bags to try and keep them from getting tangled. 604214

I had these for another vehicle, so purchased the same for my new Toyota. They are very easy to put on and adjust tightness. Seem well made. I like the cross pattern, vs single strands like other snow cables. Once you figure out how to get them on the first time, they are very intuitive and easy to put on in the snow. 331757

First thing I noticed about these was the packaging/storage case that these came in. I was shocked at how nice the carrying case was. It gives you the impression these are high-quality tire chains...and they are! Well constructed and easy to put on. I bought these for my Audi Q5 to drive in the Seattle area. This winter we've had 12-30" of snow west of the Cascade mountains and 7 feet at the Snoqualmie Pass, which normally allows chains but was closed for several days. These chains have helped a ton, preventing us from being stuck in our house. We live in an area that is part of the Cascade mountain plateau and as such have steep hills and since we don't normally get this much snow it took longer to get the local and county to plow the roads. A life saver... 605575

My tire chains arrived and I'm excited to use them for the next Sierra snow storm. Excellent quality chains and even the storage case is nice! For something that's going to sit in my trunk most of the time, it's nice to know the chains will be properly stored and self contained - for whenever they are needed. As for my overall customer experience with eTrailer, these guys are top notch! From product selection, ordering, shipping and communication throughout the process - I am completely satisfied and will gladly be a repeat customer! Thanks 333549

These are the most incredible chains I have seen that don't cost $500. I travel both the Coquihalla and Crows Nest highways in BC, Canada and chains are mandatory after October. Weather conditions are not usually the best to be wrestling these things on. They come neatly packaged and separated - no untangling. They will come out and go straight on the car. These chains go on from the outside of the wheel with no crawling under the car or moving or steering the wheels to get them aligned. I'm 63 and really appreciate that! George was prompt with the order and got them to me in less than a week. Even upgraded my standard shipping to priority at no additional charge. He is no my go to for everything SUV! 315968

2017 Toyota Highlander

I bought this for my 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid and used it this past weekend to go to Big Bear. Installation was very simple. The chains itself worked pretty well in the snow and they fit like a glove around the tire in my opinion. What I liked most about it is that you don't have to drive over it to install it. Just drape it over the tire and connect. Also, I found it very cool that the parts where you have to connect were color coded to help you with the install. 595452

The tire chains for our Highlander arrived yesterday. Fortunately in western Oregon we only need chains if we decide to go over the mountains to the ski areas or the eastern part of the state and it is snowing. With luck they may never come out of the trunk. Thank you for your service. 117603

2009 GMC Sierra

Worked great in hard packed snow/ice in the Sierra Nevada's. Also powered through heavy snow berms left from snowplows in parking lots at the ski hill, the condo complex, and around town during a nasty Sierra storm. All-season tires by themselves would have certainly involved shoveling to make it through the berms. They were also smooth up to almost 30mph with only a little vibration at 30, their max recommended speed. They are alot easier and faster to install than your typical ladder style chains. No driving on to the chains before making connections. All other chains I've purchased in the past needed separate tensioners, but the self-tensioning design of these chains is brilliant, and the color coding makes for foolproof installation. The performance and convenience of these chains are well worth the little bit extra in price compared to ladder styles. The zippered heavy nylon carrying case is far superior to the canvas sacks that came with the chains (of another brand) for our truck, and will be far more durable than the plastic box that came with chains (again, another brand) purchased for a previous vehicle. You really can't ask for anything more. I'd give more stars if possible. 607436

These chains are solid and fit well on my 2006 Chevy Trailblazer. I was only able to test fit in my driveway, so I can't say how they do on the road yet, but they are simple and quick to install. I ordered them at around 10:30 p.m. PST, and received the order the next day with the upgraded 3-5 day shipping. My order had several items, but one item was missing from the initial delivery. The customer service at etrailer.com had the missing item sent out and at my door 2 days later with very little effort on my part. Awesome job etrailer.com! • Recommended Snow Tire Chains for 2018 Volvo XC60 with 235/55/R19 Tires
For your 2018 Volvo XC60 with limited clearance, I recommend the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link - 1 Pair # TC2317 as the best reasonably priced set. This will give you durable chains with integrated tensioners. The square link and diamond pattern work well together for traction and stopping power. I've attached a video of this installation to assist.

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk
Actually neither of the chains you referenced are S-rated chains so I would not recommend either for you since that is what the owners manual of your 2014 Jeep Cherokee recommends. I attached a page that has all of the chains we offer confirmed to fit your 245/65R17 tire size that are S rated. After having installed all of the different styles of chains that we offer I think your best option would be the part # TC2317. This is a chain style that will be much more effective than the...

  • Recommended Tire Chain Installation and Options for 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee
For your 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee AWD, the owners manual says to use tire chains on the rear tires only and they should be class S chains. The manufacturer has two tire sizes that come from the factory, so I'll give you a recommendation for each. If you have 245/65-17 tires, I recommend the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern - Square Link - 1 Pair # TC2317. If you have 255/45-20 tires, I recommend the Konig Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains - Diamond Pattern...

  • Snow Chain Recommendation for a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T AWD
While the Titan Chain Alloy Snow Tire Chains # TC2317 are Class S rated and technically would have the clearance needed for your vehicle they are not a cable chain so a better choice would be the # TC2019 in order to stay compliant with your vehicle manufacturer recommendations. The owners manual of a vehicle is the final authority on snow chain usage. I also attached an FAQ article on snow chains for you to check out as well.

  • Tire Chains for a 2003 GMC Envoy with P245/65R17 Tires
If the owners manual mentions a clearance issue then the best bet is to go with Class S chains which require the least amount of clearance around the tires. Tire chains # PWH3227SC are not Class S compatible but we have other chains for your 2003 GMC Envoy that are. If you will not be needed the chains very often or do not live in an area where chains are required by law then I recommend a set of cable style chains, # PW3010C, with tensioner # PW99. I have included a link to a video...

  • Class S/Low Profile Snow Chain Recommendation for 2011 Audi Q5 w/ 235/55R19 Tires
Looks like you did your homework and have a good idea on exactly what you need. The Titan Chain part # TC2317 would be perfect for you. The price is great on these chains, they are pretty easy to install, and will actually work really well if you do need them. These chains are S rated as well like your owners manual says you would need. I attached a review video for these chains for you to check out as well.

  • Should Tire Chains be Installed on Front or Rear Wheels for a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer
The best place to find this info is in your owner's manual. I was able to find a copy online and on page 5-67 it says not to use tire chains as there is a clearance issue and tire chains can cause damage to your vehicle. It does state that if you do use traction devices to install them on the rear tires only so if you end up using tire chains anyways that is where you want to put them on your 2004 Chevy Trailblazer. With that being said, should you choose to use tire chains then I recommend...

  • Can Snow Chains be Used on 2019 Jeep Cherokee
Best recommendation we can make is to check with a Jeep dealer in an area near mountains and ask what they recommend for your 2019 Jeep Cherokee that states no tire chains. Typically they have a solution or a recommendation they know will work. Best option most likely will be the Konig K-Summit chains part # TH02230K66 which require no inner tire sidewall clearance. If you have tire size of 225/60-18 or 225/65-17 this would fit and work well. If you have a different tire size let me...

  • Installing Snow Chains on 2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Roadtrek with Dual Tires
I took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your 2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Roadtrek and under the snow chain section it does state that traction devices should only be used on the rear axle and they need to be specifically rated for use on vehicles with limited wheel-well clearance. Furthermore on dually models you should only use chains on the outside wheels (not on both). As long as you have chains appropriate for your particular vehicle (enough to cover the rear axle...

  • Tire Chain Recommendation for 2005 GMC Yukon XL with 285/55R20 Tires and 2006 GMC Envoy
Your GMC Yukon XL has a pretty large tire at 285/55R20. I spoke to my contact at Pewag and she recommended either the part # PWE3229SC or # PWH3229SC. She said either should fit well, but she recommended you test fit them as soon as you get them. With as big of a vehicle and tires as you have she strongly recommended against cables. If your 2006 GMC Envoy has the tire size 245/65-17 you would want the tire chains part # TC2317. These chains will provide better traction than cables, will...

  • Snow Chain Recommendations for Tire Size 245/60-18
Since I don't know what year Honda CR-V you have I can't look up the owners manual to see what is recommended for tire chains. So what you can do is grab the manual and check out the snow chains section and if there are any restrictions they will be listed. I like to flip to the end of the manual and use the index at the end to find what page that will be on as that seems to be the easiest way. For your tire size of 245/60-18 the option I recommend the highest is the Konig Easy Fit Chains...
