Why Choose an Adjustable Carrier?

Not every trailer runs the same wheels. Some light-duty utility trailers use 4-lug, most boat trailers run 5-lug, and heavier rigs often step up to 6-lug. Instead of buying a different mount each time, this Tie Down carrier is built to fit all three. That flexibility means you can keep one carrier even if your trailer changes, or if you maintain more than one trailer in your setup.

I am glad to hear it worked out for your trailer, with the exception of needing those longer bolts. Looks great on the trailer as well, what kind of boat do you have?

by:
The mount looks very stout and well galvanized.
Can’t wait to get it installed on my trailer (welding it on)
by:
Product arrived in good condition. However be mindful of the width of your trailer. The bolts I received with my order were not long enough to reach across my trailer to get the nut on the other side. Customer support was quick to respond and extremely helpfu, even provided me a refund for the price of the longer bolts I went and purchased from the hardware store.
by:
Bolted right up and is secure as hell!
by:
Heavy duty! Easy to install! Thank you!
by:
Easy installation, great product design and fitment. No surprises.
by:
Could make the extra hole fit the studs that comes with the hardware or put stud bols that fit the hole with the kit but other than that the sevice was great
by:
This kit fit my boat trailer but your description of what is will fit needs to mention and or provide 6" bolt in lieu of what is provided. These were not long enough for my 6" I-beam trailer and I had to source them elsewhere.
by:
Works perfectly. Simple to install.
by:
Great quality, fast shipping.
by:
Arrives in time. Fits as promised. 10 minute install.
by:
Solid construction. Flexible fit. Easy to install.

  • Recommended Spare Tire Mount for a Magic Tilt Tandem Axle Boat Trailer
I sure do Brian and thanks for the information! To add a spare tire mount to your Magic Tilt tandem axle boat trailer, I recommend the Tie Down Spare Tire Mount item # TD86FR. It attaches to frames and tongues up to 8" tall. The Tie Down item # TD86FR is a galvanized spare tire carrier that attaches to your trailer's frame with an included bracket. The galvanized finish will match your trailer and protect it against rust and corrosion. It's designed to work with 4, 5, and 6-lug wheels,...

  • Will The CE Smith Spare Tire Mount CE27201 Work With A 6-Lug Wheel?
Hey Chris, thanks for reaching out. The CE Smith Spare Tire Mount # CE27201 will not work with a 6-lug (6 on 5-1/2") wheel. I went and grabbed one from our warehouse and tried to fit it thru the holes on a 6-lug wheel and it would not fit. You'd have to bend it like superman to get it to fit and this might weaken the bolt, not to mention the lock brackets would be too far apart to work with most standard padlocks. If you have 6-lug wheels, I have to recommend using something specifically...

  • Availability of Spare Tire Mount for 2025 Trailer King Boat Trailer With 6.5" Tall Frame
Hey Steve! What you can use is the Tie Down Spare Tire Mount # TD86FR. This fits frames up to 8" tall, is galvanized, and is compatible with 6-lug wheels. The one thing you will need to do is pick up longer bolts at your local hardware store to accommodate the width of your frame. It looks like another customer grabbed some 5-1/2" bolts and they worked well for their 4" wide frame. What kind of boat do you have?

  • Will Tie Down Spare Tire Mount Fit Channel Frame On Magic Tilt Boat Trailer
Hey Nicholas! If you're referring to the Tie Down Spare Tire Mount # TD86FR then yes, you can use it on the channel frame of your Magic Tilt trailer. This will fit as long as the frame isn't more than 8" tall, and it will also work with your 5 lug wheel. Since you have a channel frame, I would add a block inside the channel where the carrier mounts to fill the gap and reinforce it when you tighten down the hardware. A piece of composite board, or similar water-resistant material would...

  • What Can I Use to Mount a Spare Tire Horizontally?
Hi JP, The Tie Down Spare Tire Mount part # TD86FR cannot be mounted horizontally. Because of how the brackets and bolts are designed to work together to secure to the frame, mounting it horizontally would misalign the bolts resulting in the brackets not being fully secured to the frame. Instead, I suggest using the Flint Hill Goods Spare Tire Mount part # FHG57ZR, it fits trailer frames up to 3" wide x 5" tall and works with 4 or 5 lug wheels. It's not compatible on 5 on 4 3/4" or...

  • Recommended Spare Tire Mount for a Carry On Trailer
Hey David! So long as your Aluminum Carry On trailer's tongue is no larger than 3" wide x 4" tall and you have a 5 lug wheel, the Tie Down Side-Mount Spare Tire Mount item # TD48FR is going to be your best option. This carrier 6" long x 6" wide x 13-1/2" tall and attaches to your trailer's tongue with included u-bolts. It is compatible with all 5 lug wheel patterns. If your trailer's tongue is larger and you have a 6-lug wheel you'll want the Tie Down Spare Tire Mount item # TD86FR. What...

  • Thickness or Rear Backing Plates on Tie Down Spare Tire Mount
Hey Craig, Thanks for your question. I went down to our warehouse and measured the thickness of the backing plate on # TD86FR, and it measures right at 1/4 inch. Based on the photo you sent and the amount of clearance you have available, I do think you may need to make a few minor hardware adjustments, just as you mentioned. That said, I also noticed you've already placed an order for this item, so I wanted to confirm that this should work well. Congratulations on the new Jayco, by...

  • Will Tie Down Spare Tire Mount Hardware Fit a 4" Thick Trailer Frame?
Hey Steve! The bolts that come with the Tie Down Spare Tire Mount # TD86FR are 1/2”-13 x 4-1/2” so you'll definitely be pushing the limits with a 4" wide frame. The nice thing is that you can easily find longer bolts at your local hardware or home improvement store. Most spare tire mounts are designed for trailer frames that are up to 3" wide, so you'll have to get replacement hardware for basically any spare tire kit you end up going with. Do you already have the spare tire as well?

  • How Much Weight can the Tie Down Spare Tire Mount - 4, 5, and 6 Lug Wheels Support?
Hello Craig, Apologies for the delay. I was waiting to hear back from the manufacturer. I reached out to Tie Down, and they confirmed that the Tie Down Spare Tire Mount part # TD86FR, is rated to support a spare tire up to 65 lbs. This carrier is designed to fit standard trailer wheels with 4, 5, or 6 lug bolt patterns and mounts to the trailer tongue or frame. It features a galvanized steel construction for corrosion resistance, making it a solid option for boat or utility trailers. Do...

  • Recommended Jack and Spare Tire Carrier for a Boat Trailer w/a 5-1/2" Tall Frame
Hey Mark, welcome back and thanks for the picture! The Trailer Valet Adjustable Drill Powered Square Jack item # TV83FR will indeed work on your 3-1/2" tongue if you use longer bolts. It's designed for frames up to 6" tall so you'll be good. This is a common modification to make the brackets included with item # TV83FR fit wider frames. You'll want to use four Grade 8 zinc-plated steel bolts. For a spare tire carrier, I recommend the Tie Down Spare Tire Mount item # TD86FR. This galvanized...

  • Spare Tire Mount For Scout Boat Trailer
Hi Willy! The CE Smith Spare Tire Mount # CE22007Z-11050-2 is one of our most popular options for boat trailers. It can be mounted above the frame, on the side of the frame, or even under the frame, so it's pretty versatile. It can be a little difficult to actually put the wheel on it though, so it isn't always my first choice though. I tend to like things like the Tie Down Spare Tire Mount # TD86FR. This is more heavy duty and can carry 4 bolt, 5 bolt, and 6 bolt wheels (the CE Smith...

  • Will CE Smith Padlock Brackets Work With Tie Down Spare Tire Mount
Hey Alex! The CE Smith Padlock Brackets # CE26002Z-2 won't fit the Tie Down Spare Tire Mount # TD86FR as-is. The holes in the brackets are 3/8" and the adjustable wheel studs on the Tie Down mount are larger. Based on the design, I would simply drill out the holes in the CE Smith brackets enough to fit over the studs. The nuts will still tighten down over the brackets to hold them in place, so they should function just fine for locking your spare. What kind of trailer are you using the...
