Hello neighbors. It's Brad here, at etrailer. And today we're taking a look at installing the Ultra-Fab Spare Tire Carrier for RVs and trailers. During your towing adventure, you're only really one road hazard away from being stuck on the side of the road. And if you don't have a spare tire, you could be waiting for a tow truck or someone to come by and help. But if you have your own spare tire, you can change that and be on the road in no time.
But the problem is, finding a place to store it sometimes can be tricky. And you want it easily accessible as well. And that's where this mount comes into play. This is a bumper mount. So it's gonna go on your standard RV 4-inch bumpers perfectly and you can see it just uses u-bolts and attaches to the bracket here to give you a nice secure mounting point for your spare tire.
Now this is gonna work great for most trailer applications, most trailer wheels, and also automotive wheels. And because you have only two studs here to mount up that's gonna allow you to get one there. And having this plate, it really doesn't matter, your bolt pattern. It's gonna be able to mount up and hold it in place for you. Now do keep in mind that this is not gonna work with Dually style wheels or your Class A or Class C motor homes.
Now another nice feature is the ability to actually get this in a tilt function. So here we have it fixed by putting a bolt through here but it does come with a pin and clip allowing you to pull that out and this will drop down. So if you have anything stored back here you'll be able to gain access to it pretty easily. Since this does live on the outside of your camper or trailer, it's gonna be exposed to a lot of weather, presumably. And the great part about it is it does have a black powder coat finish.
So over time, this is gonna be able to withstand those elements pretty easily. Now it also has a 60 pound weight restriction. So generally that's gonna be perfectly fine for your trailer, tires and wheels, but you do wanna make sure that you're not overloading it. You're gonna wanna determine where you're actually mounting up your spare tire carrier. And you're also gonna want to check and see if you actually want the tilting function. So there's a solid bolt here that keeps it upright but you do have the ability to take this out with a pin and clip in place. This allows it to tilt. So if you need to gain access to anything, if you have a storage compartment, or whatever it may be, you have the ability to move that out of the way. But since we really don't need to access anything we've gone ahead with our solid bolt here. So we can go ahead and get this resting here, where we want it. And then we'll just take a u-bolt here and we're gonna just pass this through. And once we get both studs through that plate we can go ahead and follow this up with a split washer. And then we'll just take our nuts here. And I'm just gonna get this hand tightened on so we can get our other one in place. So now I'm gonna go back and I'm gonna tighten these nice and evenly. You also wanna make sure that your u-bolts are nice and parallel with each other. That way it's evenly distributing the force on the bracket. So I'm gonna go ahead and just kind of, in a cross pattern here, I'm gonna tighten down our top one and then we'll go to the bottom one here. And then we'll just criss-cross and that way it's nice and evenly distributed. Now we don't have to get crazy tight here 'cause I'm actually gonna go back with the torque wrench and that's gonna allow us to really get the perfect amount of torque on here. Not put too much stress on the threads but also make sure that it doesn't become loose over time. Now, going back with my torque wrench, I've set the torque to the settings in the instruction manual and it's a pretty low setting but this is again pretty important just to make sure that we're not over tightening these. Now, if you need a torque wrench we actually have 'em here available at etrailer. You can generally rent them in an auto parts store but we wanna make sure and go through our hardware. As a lot of the hardware in the kit does have a torque setting that we're gonna need to follow. So it's nice to have this handy and know that it's being installed properly. Now we're gonna take our wheel studs here and we're gonna place this little, this plate on here and this is gonna keep this from backing out over time. So you can actually thread this on to make it a little bit easier, but again this is just gonna keep tension on it and make sure that it doesn't actually fall out. It's just kind of a holder. There we go. We'll go ahead and do the same for the other side. So now we'll grab our spare tire. We're also gonna grab our bracket as well as the lug nuts that came in the kit. And to get this on, it's gonna work with a bunch of different wheel patterns or bolt patterns I should say. But we're gonna hang this one on the top here. And I'm gonna just get my lug nuts started here. So now our stud doesn't actually align with our other wheel studs, which is okay because we have this bracket and this is gonna just go here across the hole of the wheel and allow this to really hold this in place pretty well. So we'll go ahead and get this tightened down. So just as we would, the lug nuts on our car, we're gonna make sure that these are torqued down properly and that way they're gonna be nice and secure. And that was a look and installation of the Ultra-Fab Spare Tire Carrier for RV's and trailers..

Clamp this durable steel, folding spare tire carrier onto your trailer or RV bumper. Fits 4" wide, rear, box-style bumpers. Holds most standard automotive and camper tires.Installed quickly and easily using basic hand tools. I followed the directions and torqued the nuts on the u-bolts to 30 lb ft, which ended up bending the corners of the mounting flanges. I'm using this to hold a 205/75R14 spare tire, and I hope that the rest of the mount will hold up with use. First chance I get, I will be pulling this off, hammering the flange corners back flat, and welding on an additional piece of plate to strengthen the flange.
Very good quality material and doesn't move at all with the weight of the spare tire
I have a Class A and tow a dolly. My dolly does not have space to attach a spare tire. This spare tire holder mounts perfectly on my rear bumper. It's out of the way, easily accessible and looks good.
-My application for this "Carrier" was to hold a Thor / Ford E350 Full size spare tire. This carrier's description is "a Spare Tire Carrier". This infers it is heavy duty enough in its quality construction to hold a spare tire. Its weakness is it uses as its mount the hollow square, thin wall, rear bumper found on many RV's. This square tubing bumper with the spare tire's weight will flex, and eventually collapse the square tube bumper. To make it worse this collapse occurs when on the road and has caused on-the-road incidents.
For your information there is an online video of a repair made to a collapsed square tube bumper, including the upgrade repair to this very same "Spare Tire Carrier". If interested I can send a link to this video. I am sure you can find it on your own.
At the least to make this application safer and longer lasting I would require the purchaser add a Towing Receiver Extension be installed. Like the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers - 8" Long Item # C45791. It would give a mounting surface to help the Square Tube Bumper hold the Spare Tire's weight. Without this additional support the "Spare Tire Carrier" will not safely, reliably hold the weight of a full size truck tire.
Ended up not using. Not heavy enough for F350 truck tire.

Ultra-Fab Folding Spare Tire Mount didnt work out so well for me as my RV bumper was configure or size different. No problem just used it on my car hauler trailer worked out good there
I recently bought a spare tire carrier for my camper from etrailer and I can say it was a pleasant experience arrived sooner than expected due to Bryan’s shipping up grade. The packaging was well done and it was in perfect shape. Now here is the crazy part it is no longer a spare tire carrier I am a ham radio operator and use my gear while camping in the middle of nowhere. It was just what I needed to make the mount for my 24’ fiberglass antenna tower. I cut it down and welded a pipe to it now my fiberglass pipes fit inside and I can just walk the portable tower up and pin it in place.
Poor quality product. Metal is too thin for the application allowing the wheel/tire to wobble and vibrate. U-shaped bracket cracked all the way through where it attaches to vertical post. A stress fracture started at the corners of one of the square holes punched for the carriage bolts. This happened after only 3k miles on the road and less than a month of exposure to the elements.
The product is able to hold the weight of our spare tire but the design puts too much stress on the bumper of our Minnie Winnie. With the extension of on the carrier and spare tire rim, the weight of the tire pulls away from the motorhome and puts stress on the bumper. I strongly discourage this for a Class C motorhome.
Sturdy product-easy install about 20 minutes-fast delivery-Third purchase from etrailer - great service and products
Just what I was looking for. Had the ground clearance I required for off road at a fair price. Easy to install.

Its worked out perfectly. I ended up having it welded further back towards the trailer to maximize turning radius. Its just what I was looking for.
Fine product, sturdy. For our popup tent trailer, it needed a little extra securing due to the fact that our trailer's bumper is not solid and it would wobble with the weight of the tire.
The spare tire carrier is good quality and easy to install. It shipped quickly and arrived on time. I am always pleased with etrailer’s service!

The original spare tire mount supplied by the dealer was beginning to fail. So, I went on the hunt for a replacement. After reviewing many I decided on the Ultra-Fab. It is well designed, well made and installs easily. Also, it has a Life Time Warrenty.
Here are some photos of my Ultra-fab Folding Spare Tire Carrier I purchased form E-trailer
Happy with product fast shipping easy installation.
Was unable to locate product at any automotive stores.
Found online.
Mounted fine to my newly installed bumper on my. 1965 silver streak.
This is exactly what I expected. Also, great customer service! Here’s a pic… I bought both the extra spare and mount on the right from etrailer on different orders… extremely happy with everything.
Will fit my Coleman 17R RV bumper to mount Karrier spare tire and rim I received from you yesterday. Perfect!
After looking at several products similar to this I decided this was the best product to fit my needs. I am more than happy with the end result of this product. Thanks etrailer
One year later, spare tire carrier is still holding the spare tire like it is supposed to. Trailer is stored outside, so it's exposed to CA weather. No rust or any other distress noted to the carrier. I'm happy!
I needed a tire carrier for a large tire (my spare for my truck)on my boat trailer as I wouldn’t be able to get to my spare carrier on my truck. This carrier had to raise my spare higher as my spare tire is much larger than my boat tires and it would drag when backing down boat ramps. The ultra fab spare tire was the answer for me.

They never worked at all. They don’t fit the 16” 8 hole wheels. I modified them to fit but they were so flimsy the spare wheel was wobbling while I was driving down the road so I took it off and made my own
Simple and works well. Worth it.
I needed a spare tire for my rv and a mount. This wheel is exactly like the ones on my rv and the tire is better. Shipping is fast. I couldn't be more pleased.
Easy installation. Appears to be a study construction considering the price. I like the bracket that bolts onto the upright to hold the tire. It is more solid than the old one i had that was welded and started cracking. Shipping from etrailer was quick as usual.

No changes and that is a good thing since the quality appears ok a year later.
