Recommended Jack and Spare Tire Carrier for a Boat Trailer w/a 5-1/2" Tall Frame

Updated 05/23/2026 | Published 05/20/2026

Question:

I have an aluminum I beam boat traile that is 3 1/2inch wide and 5inch tall. I see this jack will only fit 3inch wide trailers and Im wondering if it is due to bolt length that comes with the kit? Can I get longer bolts to make this jack work with my trailer? I am also looking for a couple of spare tire carriers for this trailer as well. Any suggestions?

Hey Mark, welcome back and thanks for the picture! The Trailer Valet Adjustable Drill Powered Square Jack item # TV83FR will indeed work on your 3-1/2" tongue if you use longer bolts. It's designed for frames up to 6" tall so you'll be good. This is a common modification to make the brackets included with item # TV83FR fit wider frames. You'll want to use four Grade 8 zinc-plated steel bolts.

For a spare tire carrier, I recommend the Tie Down Spare Tire Mount item # TD86FR. This galvanized spare tire holder is designed to work with 4,5,and 6-lug wheels and mounts direction to frames up to 8" tall. It looks like you've got plenty of room on your tongue to install this spare tire holder. It looks like you've got plenty of clearance below your boat but I recommend taking a measurement or two to verify. The item # TD86FR is 6-1/2" long x 6" wide x 15-1/4" tall.

What size tires do you have and what lug nut pattern are your wheels?
