Perfect fit and great service!

Brake Drum/Hub unit and associated parts arrived quickly and in great shape! Waiting for warmer weather to install. Have used e-trailer parts before to rebuild all brakes, hubs and bearings on camping trailer last summer but over-torqued one bearing set and had an outer bearing failure - almost lost the wheel! This unit will replace that damaged hub which was gouged by riding on the washer and spindle nut causing grease cap not to seal and leak grease. These parts are first class and fit and install perfectly!

First off I purchased 1" castle nuts, tang type spindle washers and 2 wheel hubs for a 3500 lb tandem trailer. I wish I had pictures during the assembly but I don't, however these parts all assembled perfectly. The hubs were pre-greased, so all I did was use brake cleaner on the wheel spindles to clean up, the hubs slid on with no problem, the tang washers fit perfectly and the castle nut threaded on with ease, the hub included new lug nuts which made the whole repair a breeze! Very pleased with the purchase and ease of assembly, I was going to piece out the bearings and races but for the price of a complete hub it made more sense to buy it already greased and assembled. E trailers videos and instructions are great to consider before attempting to install the parts.

Nice upgrade of the axle on my [online] trailer. I had no confidence towing my home made teardrop camper until I installed this axle. The package was damaged in shipping and eTrailer quickly replaced the missing parts.

Thanks for the reply and follow up. I have included a link to all our spare tire carriers, I am not sure how you car hauling trailer is configured or what you mounting options are, but here is what we currently offer.

6 wks. ago I started on a refurbishing project off a 1988 Holsclaw boat trailer. I stripped all the paint off, ground and sanded the rust, primed and painted everything, replaced ALL the fasteners with stainless stell and some galvanized. I ordered several things from etrailer.com . Everything I ordered was to exact specifications and the shipping was on-time, everytime. I ordered several bearing items to repack the hubs, this coupler and nifty lifting handle, transom tie down brackets, spare tire carrier and 3 new 570x80 tires mounted on galvanized rims and the company installed stems, free of charge! I love the way this project came out and I've thoroughly enjoyed shopping @ etrailer.com! Thank you!

Replaced the Hubs on my Bass Tracker trailer with parts from E-Trailer. didn't measure correctly so I had to return the first ones but then settled on Galvanized hubs. Could not be happier. Much better quality than the originals.

by:

I have made several purchases from etrailer. All the items have been as described and worked perfectly for my application. All the staff I have had interactions with have been knowledgeable and very professional. Great parts, Great people, Great prices!!!

by:

Buy all my trailer parts from etrailer. When I have questions, they are quick to respond and shipping is always top-notch. In this case, I had a bearing and nut fail which took off the entire hub. New parts came quickly and I was back on the road with relative ease.

Good quality

This was my 3rd order from Etrailer. All were delivered promptly and in good condition. The trailer hitch for my GMC terrain was a great fit and easily installed. One suggestion though. The pull wire really needs to be longer. I had to extend it about a foot. The other orders were fine.
I definitely shop at eTrailer.

  • Spare Hub And Bearings For A Kodiak Rotor/Hub 133-7K-8
Hey Alex, thanks for providing that part number. You may already know this, but what you have are the standard Kodiak 7K rated 8 lug hub and rotor assemblies. We have all of the parts you need, and I have listed those for you below. - Hub/Rotor Assembly # KRH1378D - Bearing Kit # DBRKHW7 - Cotter Pin # 165649 - Spindle Nut # 165686 The aforementioned bearing kit will include your seals and grease caps. Keep in mind the bearing kit comes with enough for two axles. All of the other parts...

  • Should There Be a Washer on Trailer Spindle Between Spindle Nut and Outer Bearing
There really should be a flat washer between the outer bearing of your hub and the nut that holds it on. The washer protects the back side of the bearing from the edges and points on the back side of the spindle nut. The Washer For 1 inch Spindle, # SW1000, is typically used on spindles that have a castle nut, like # 165686, and a cotter pin, # 165649. A D washer, # 5-23, would be used on a spindle that has a flat side and uses the same castle nut and cotter pin setup. A Tongue Washer,...

  • Depth Measurement For Hubs That Fit A 1" Straight Spindle
We do have hubs available for a 1" straight spindle in part # AKIHUB-440-2-EZ-1K. This hub measures 4-1/4" deep so it will run a bit longer than the hub you are looking for. There are a total of 4 hubs that we carry for a 1" straight spindle and all 4 would be identical as far as depth. A lot of these older boat trailers use hubs that are trailer specific, and it may prove very difficult to find. We do carry replacement spindles like part # TRU59FR, if you want to change it out for a more...

  • Replacement for Missing Spindle Washer Used with Bearing Kit BK1-150 and Castle Nut
Your spindle should have a Washer # SW1000 between the outer bearing and the Spindle Nut # 165686. As this part is typically always reused that is the reason it is not included in the Bearing Kit # BK1-150. Instead we only include the cotter pin and D-washer since the cotter pin and D-washer can break. You will be able to discard the D-washer since you have the castle nut style spindle and do not need that part.

  • Bearing Kit for Dexter Trailer Axle D52
The D52 on your axle tag means it is a 5,200 lb axle. For a kit that has all of the bearings and seal for your Dexter D52 5,200 lb axle you'd want the kit part # BK3-310 and then for a spindle nut you'd want the # 165686. Aside from that the other interesting piece of info that is on the tag is the hub face to hub face dimension is 86 inches and spring seat center to center is 68.5 inch. You'd need this if you ever had to replace the axle.

  • Replacement Idler Hub For a BTR Spindle On an Enclosed Trailer
You will need 2 of the Easy Grease Trailer Idler Hubs # AKIHUB-545-2-LFEZ-2K for your trailer hubs. This hub fits on your Spindle # TRU27FR and will include new bearings, races, a grease seal, grease cap, and new lug nuts. As you have an EZ grease spindle you will not have a cotter pin. Instead you will have a Tang Washer # 5-101 that holds on the Castle Nut # 165686 and Washer # 5-23.

The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 3,500-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 10" - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized # 8-247-50UC3-EZ uses 1/2 inch studs so the lug nuts will be 1/2 inch inner diameter and 13/16 inch outer diameter like # CE11051. If instead you are looking for the spindle nut # 165686 is the correct fit along with cotter pin # 165649. The #84 E-Z Lube Spindle w/ Brake Flange for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles Item # TRU77FR does not come with a castle nut so you'd need to order that as well with part # 165686.

The #42 Spindle # TRU57FR does come with a Standard Washer # SW1000, Cotter Pin # 165649, and Castle Nut # 165686 to secure the hub to the spindle. The D-Washer # 5-23 and Tang Washer # 5-101 were created to allow for a Grease Zerk # LC44XV to fit the end of the spindle and allow you to grease the hub bearings without removing the hub. • How Tight Does the Castle Nut on a Trailer Spindle Need To Be
According to our installers you will tighten the trailer spindle nut until it stops by itself. In other words do not torque it down as hard as you can. It just has to be tight. A little play is to be expected. You do not want to torque it down too tight, because that makes the bearings too tight and then that generates heat and your bearings come apart. You might want to try tightening it a few times to get a feel for where it seems like the spindle nut naturally stops. Once it is fairly...

For a trailer axle spindle nut like part # 165686 you will need to run the spindle nut down until there is no more side-to-side play in the hub and then back it off to the next notch so you can secure the cotter pin, like part # 165649, through the spindle. When it comes to hanger bolts like the Redline # 166081 there isn't a specific torque rating either as you just need to make...

  • Torque Rating for Spindle Castle Nut
When installing the castle nut on the end of the spindle, there is no specific torque rating. The nut is ran down until there is no side to side play in the hub, and then backed off to the next notch in the castle nut so the tang washer or cotter pin can secure the nut. Over-tightening the castle nut can damage the bearings, races and spindle. If you click on the video link I provided, and fast forward to the 4:45 minute mark, you can see the procedure.

  • Spindle Nut Recommendation for a 3,500 lb Axle
Since you have a 3,500 lb axle most likely the diameter of the threaded portion of the spindle is 1 inch. You will need to verify that. And since the spindle has a hole in it for a cotter pin you would need a castle nut. For that I would recommend the Trailer Spindle Nut # 165686. For a compatible cotter pin I would recommend the Cotter Pin part # 165649. The Spindle Nut Kit # RG05-100 that you referenced is for a different style spindle so I would not recommend it for you.

  • Spindle Nut Kit Recommendation for a Dexter 6k Axle
Since the D60 Dexter Axle uses a cotter pin and castle nut the # RG05-100 would not be the correct kit for you. For that I would recommend the Trailer Spindle Nut # 165686. For a compatible cotter pin I would recommend the Cotter Pin part # 165649. People use channel locks typically for installation and removal of these castle nuts since they don't really get torqued down and the length of the spindle prevents most standard sockets from being easily used.
