This Comfort Ride suspension upgrade system greatly improves your towing experience. It serves as an add-on for your leaf spring suspension, and it provides a notably smoother ride, reducing chucking, axle roll-up, and suspension rebound. This means that you'll experience improved handling, even over potholes and uneven pavement. And the contents of your trailer will stay in place during travel.

Gas Shocks Absorb Road Vibration

While traditional leaf springs support your trailer to prevent bottoming out, they don't necessarily provide a comfortable ride. Due to the rigidity of the steel construction, leaf springs do a poor job of absorbing shock and bounce and limiting sway.

Roadmaster Comfort Ride shocks

Adding these shocks to your existing leaf spring suspension offers a better solution. Gas-powered springs inside of the sealed cylinders compress and extend as you drive. The compression and extension of the springs creates enough force to offset the amount of incoming force or vibration that occurs when you tow over rough or uneven terrain. The result is a more comfortable towing experience.

Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers installed

Many trailers will have shocks mounted at around a 40-degree angle, but this positioning doesn't compensate very well for the up-and-down movement of the trailer's suspension. Roadmaster's patented adjustable frame brackets are specifically designed to allow these shocks to be mounted at an optimum angle between 20 and 40 degrees. As a result, these shocks will have the leverage necessary to limit up-and-down and lateral movement during both compression and rebound.

Rigorous Testing Standards

The Comfort Ride shock absorber system has endured rigorous testing to ensure its durability and longevity. This testing includes computerized Finite Element Analysis, which establishes guidelines to ensure superior product quality and safety. Roadmaster also tested these shock absorbers at the Navistar Proving Grounds, a private test facility that provides real-world handling and safety testing. The result is a safe, long-lasting product that you can trust.

Installation

Installation of the Comfort Ride system is fairly straightforward.

The included tie plates replace your existing U-bolt tie plates. You will need to retain your existing U-bolts and nuts for installation. Once the tie plates are installed, bolt the upper mounting brackets to your trailer's frame with the included hardware. Some drilling is required when mounting the brackets to the frame. Finally, attach the shocks between the tie plates and the frame brackets.

  • Will the Bolt-On Shock Kits for Trailers Work With Underslung Axles
I do have an option for you but the Lippert Components Bolt-On Shock Kit like part # LC281281 is designed for use on overslung axles (leaf springs over axle) only. Therefore, it should not be used with the underslung (leaf springs under axle) axles that you have. The reason for this is that the shock absorbers would not be long enough and there could be interference with the axle tube. Instead, I recommend using the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers for Tandem Axle Trailers part...

  • Comparing the Timbren Silent Ride for Tandem Axle Trailers to the Roadmaster Shock Absorbers
Hey Ryan! Those systems are quite different. The Timbren Silent Ride Suspension for Tandem Axle Trailers w/ 3" Round Axles item # TSR10KT02 is a complete replacement option. It takes away your entire leaf spring set up and requires you to mount your axles directly to it. The installation process in extremely in-depth. You have to remove all of your current suspension components including hangers, you'll need to install a hollow 2" x 4" steel crossmember, and your current axle seats have...

A cushioned pin box, like the Trailair Flex Air 5th Wheel Pin Box # LC328492 for a Lippert 1621 replacement that you referenced, will greatly improve the ride between your 2016 Ram 3500 and your Forest River Chaparral 37FL whereas upgraded suspension parts on your trailer are geared more towards the ride quality of your trailer. If the jarring that you are getting is from the trailer bouncing around then I recommend starting with suspension enhancement. From the info you gave it sounds...

The Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shocks can be purchased separately with part # RM-204000-00. We unfortunately don't sell the mounting hardware separately so you would either have to purchase it directly from Roadmaster or from your local hardware store. While you could install the Roadmaster Comfort Ride Shock Absorbers # RM-2470 in the other orientation pointed away from the equalizers this would greatly decrease their effectiveness. Since the Equalizer allows for more movement on that side of the axle the shock absorbers have further they can travel to reduce shock. There really are no drawbacks to adding a shock kit to your 2018 Grand Design Reflection 150 Series 220RK. I do like them as they will smooth out the ride and actually help with sway issues as well. There are a few options to choose from and though they are more expensive, I do prefer the Roadmaster options. These have a Lifetime Warranty and come as tandem axle kits as well.
