Features to know about

Keep Control on Steep, Snowy Roads: Square Links Bite in for Confident Grip

When the road is packed with snow or coated in light ice, these square-link chains dig in evenly for strong traction. The small, uniform links create a steady bite without making the ride harsh, so you keep forward momentum without that jarring bounce common to larger ladder-style chains. It’s the kind of dependable grip that keeps you moving when the conditions turn bad.

Stay Smooth on the Drive: Diamond Pattern Keeps Power to the Ground

The diamond pattern layout connects more of the chain with the road at any given moment, giving you constant traction instead of the stop-and-go pull of older designs. That overlapping pattern means better control and a smoother feel, whether you’re easing down a slick mountain grade or pulling out of a snow-filled driveway.

Spend Less Time Wrestling with Chains: Built-In Assisted Tensioning Tightens Fast

These chains tighten up easily with built-in tensioners that you just tug to lock in place—no tools needed. The tensioners are part of the chain assembly, so you don’t have to keep track of extra pieces or worry about losing adjusters in the snow. Once snug, they stay centered and tight, saving you time and frustration when you need to get back on the road quickly.

Tough Enough for Repeated Winter Use: Manganese Nickel Alloy Steel Resists Wear and Rust

Built for long-term reliability, the nickel-manganese alloy steel holds up under heavy use and resists corrosion from road salt and slush. A powder-coated side chain adds extra rim protection while standing up to harsh winter conditions. When you’re done, dry and pack them away in the included durable nylon bag so they’re ready for next time.

Made for Work or Travel in Harsh Conditions: Fits 15"–18" Tires with 5/8" Clearance

These chains are sized to fit a range of tire diameters, giving you flexibility across different setups. With a 5/8" internal clearance requirement and a 5-year warranty, they’re a solid choice for drivers who want something tough enough for plowing, hauling, or just getting through deep winter snow without slipping.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

Product arrived quickly, and in great shape. Product did not include gloves, nor mat, but that's not a big deal. The plastic instructions are truly plastic, which is pretty nifty when considering installation in snow.

Fit on my 2018 Grand Touring CX-5 seems fine - I have yet to use the chains in snow, but I fit them on my car in the garage per the video recommendations. Video installations may tell you that the yellow tab needs to face towards the front of the vehicle - I found this to be false/true depending on if you were on the passenger or driver side of the vehicle. I believe that correct installation has the chain approach the tire from left to right, independent of vehicle direction. That is, if on the driver side (USA vehicle), the chain will be wrapped around the tire with the yellow tab coming from the front of the vehicle. If installing on the passenger side, the chain wraps coming from the rear of the vehicle. This was to ensure that the non-hooked sides (smooth side) of the chains were facing the rims on both driver and passenger installations per the installation videos.

One of the red plastic tabs required re-seating on the chain as it was inverted and would sit upside down when the chains were installed.

Just received my Thule 247 XB16 Tire Chains. What a great product!! Got them for my 93 Ford Ranger which has 30x9.5x15 tires and they fit great! I plan on using these during snow and ice storms as I work for an electric utility and have to report to work. After viewing the etrailer instructional video I was able to put both chains on in less than 5 minutes. Delivery was quick too and I love how George J from Etrailer sent me an email quickly letting me know that my order was processed and included tracking information too! I feel confident I can count on Etrailer for future orders. Very professional and they have staff experienced with the product standing by if you have problems or questions! Thanks Etrailer!

by:

Theses were exactly what I was looking for, easy and quick to install while not breaking the bank. Been using them for two days now and no problems or concerns as of yet.

by:

Installation was fairly simple. Delivery was quick. I can’t figure out what the gray plastic clip is for in the photo. Any ideas?

by:

We have not used them yet but etrailer has been very helpful.

by:

The communications is outstanding the product is great ordering is easy and shipping was fast. This is my new favorite company to get stuff for my RV.

by:

Have to be easiest and best! No reason to not put these in your winter kit. Took a literal minute a wheel in my sunny driveway. So, maybe 3 minutes in a blizzard? Cheap peace of mind to keep mobile and out of ditches.

by:

Tested putting the chains on-off for both front tires. Works well (~10 min both tires). The etrailer video extremely helpful. I think it would be very useful if etrailer added a comment to their video that the removal of the chains is highly facilitated by aligning the chains-tire with the wire-socket connector on top. (Same way as you put them on.)

by:

After having these for a full winter season, I can say that they were well worth the purchase. 4.5 stars. Traction was supreme, and ease of install and removal is everything they say - awesome! Removed a star only because the plastic clips that route the little tensioning chain were quickly broken, and the rubber end is marginal. However when installed on my 2wd truck, I pulled a small box trailer up and down a very icy and steep slope (dirt road at scout camp) - without a hint of wheelspin. Same area immediately before chain install had cars and 4wd trucks stuck on a gentle grade. These are not smooth at all on pavement, but a lifesaver when needed.

by:

One of the best retail experiences I have ever had. I think the web site is a bit confusing. The installation video suggested a different chain, but the link to the that product, though it identified the right tire size, did not identify the product for my vehicle a 2024 4Runner. I called for help. Christopher recommended the original product (I think). I purchased it. It came right on time. Is a great fit on the tire and is the easiest tire chain I have ever used. I think without Christopher's help I would have purchased the wrong product . . . and I didn't have time to purchase another one. Thank you Christopher.

by:

Chains worked well providing plenty of grip on 2” of ice covered sleet, with temps well below 20 F. easy to mount and remove, very satisfied with product.

etrailer phone rep, Ashley, was super helpful and friendly, emails were prompt and informative, and shipping was fast and easy to track. Very satisfied with etrailer customer service, too.

by:

Fantastic customer service, constant follow up from etrailer.com. I need the product urgently and it arrived in a couple of days all the way to Canada! The product is very high quality and was easy to install. I have a cottage with a steep hill and when it’s full of ice it’s very tough to get up even with my 4x4 now I don’t have to put sand and salt down for 500 plus feet! Konig chains are a life saver.

Thank you!

Only used them one time they were fairly easy to install except for the cold.

by:

I have used these twice in the snow and they worked great on my 2017 ford escape.

by:

Great service! The chains arrived the very next day. We haven't used them yet, but we read a review online that these are excellent chains for our Volvo. Thank you so much etrailer!

by:

I love these chains. Ive owned many different styles and types and these by far are the most durable, reliable, easy to install ones that ive owned or had to deal with.

by:

I am very happy with etrailer.com and their customer service, delivery were all very easy! Product arrived on time and in great shape! I will definitely recommend them to my friends and family!

by:

Haven't used them yet but I have done a fit check and everything fits perfect. Was extremely happy with the fast shipping and the customer service provided by Etrailer. Will def. buy from again!

by:

I received the snow chains at the promised delivery date. I have test fit them on my 2016 Ford Escape and driven around the block, on dry pavement. I can't really comment on how well the work in the snow, but the installation was straight forward and simple, just as shown in the video. My hands were a tight squeeze to fit between the tire and the fender, but doable in gloves.

I didn't look at the directions, so I missed the trick for removal. You need to roll the car forward or backwards until the trigger clip is at the bottom, the same location as when the chains are installed. That puts the cable connection at the top of the tire, where it was when installed. Doing that makes removal as easy as the installation.

by:

We received the package one week after we put in the order. Communicated with Customer Service one time and they were very prompt to respond. All told, a solid experience. Now we just have to figure out how to install....

The snow chains that we bought from etrailer saved our figurative skins on several occasions when we found ourselves caught in very icy weather. Once we figured out installation, it was actually a pretty easy process the second time around.

by:

Very great product, works very well. However, the instructions are absolutely terrible and it takes a minute to figure out how to put them on. The case is flimsy as well.

by:

I live in LA and purchased this tire chain because I was going on a road trip to some national parks and mountains up in Vancouver. It's pretty easy to out on and remove. Worked perfectly for me. In snow, you can't drive more than 25 miles anyway.

I also like the case that comes with it. I've only used it once and that's my experience.

  • What Tire Chains Should I Use On My 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross
Hey, Abigail! Happy to help out. Based off your 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross it looks like it only had one option for tire size, 225/55-18, which is helpful in finding chains. I do agree that the v-bar is a bit aggressive for what you will be needing. D-link chains in a diamond pattern are the best pattern for traction. The best chains for your tire size is going to be the Konig part # TH01571240. They will be the easiest to use and a big plus with these chains is that they will tighten...

  • Tire Chains with 10mm or Less Clearance for a 2014 Ford Escape with 235/55R17 Tires
If your 2014 Ford Escape has the 235/55-17 tires then I recommend the Pewag Snox # PWSXV580. The chain links are smaller than 10mm and the chains overall require less clearance than what the Ford owner's manual is specifying making them an excellent option. I have linked a video review of these chains for you.

  • 2013 Ford Escape SEL Tire Chain Recommendation 235/50R18
The Thule Chains part # TH01571240 will fit the tire size you have on your 2013 Ford Escape SEL. However, you will need to check with Ford to see if they will allow you to use the chains on your vehicle. In some areas you have to have chains to be able to get around so we realize the need for them even when the owners manual says not to use them. If the reason they do not recommend the chains is due to inner wheel clearance issues you should still then be able to use the part # TH02230K45...
