Easily Install, Remove, and Carry Your Hitch Head

HitchGrip Carry

The HitchGrip is a simple tool that makes it easy to install, remove, and maneuver your weight distribution head assembly. Dealing with an oversized ball mount or heavy weight distribution head can be a real headache. These assemblies can be heavy, awkward to handle, dirty, and genuinely uncooperative. But with the HitchGrip carrying tool, you can do what is needed with your assembly as quickly, cleanly, and painlessly as possible.

The HitchGrip makes it easy to get a good grip on your head assembly. As a result, you won't drop your expensive, heavy equipment, nor will you strain your back trying to awkwardly carry it. It also allows for proper leverage so that you don't have to wiggle and shake the assembly to install or remove it. This saves time and eliminates frustration. And because you don't actually have to touch your head assembly when you use the HitchGrip, you can avoid getting grease and grime onto your hands. This allows you to go from task to task without needing to clean your hands in between.

How to Use the HitchGrip Carrying Tool

HitchGrip Usage Example

First, position the HitchGrip to the side of your hitch ball with the handle pointing toward the rear of your vehicle. Then tilt the tool downward and slide it onto the ball to engage. Make sure that the HitchGrip is centered over the ball mount or hitch head so that the weight will be evenly distributed. Then lift up on the handle of the HitchGrip so that the carbide tips grip the underside of the ball. Once the tool has a good grip on the ball, you can carry and maneuver your ball mount with ease. When you install your ball mount in your hitch receiver, you can also use the HitchGrip to easily line up the hitch pin holes.

Recommended Clearance for Drop Hitches

If your ball mount or head assembly is in the drop position, the HitchGrip may not work on your setup. In order to ensure a good grip and proper leverage, it is recommended that you have no more than 4-1/4" between the top of the hitch head and the top of your trailer hitch receiver. If there isn't enough space between the tool and the top of the hitch head you may not be able to get your hand securely around the handle.

I have made a few smaller purchases from your group and will be buying a complete awning assembly (26 ft) in the Spring. It will be from you, due to George. I don't understand how you in Missouri can get something to central MN quicker than from the surrounding area in MN. Your products and service are second to none. Thanks! 920894

I love this Hitch Grip tool. At 74 years it has simplified this simple act of moving, removing, and installing the larger heavier hitch we got when upgraded our sway control. It is on my pre-trip checklist...don't leave home without it. 920650

As soon as I took delivery of this tool, I had to try it out. My back is always in pain, so I was using a hand truck to move this from the truck to the garage for storage. To not have to bend over so far is the key to making it easier on my back, and this tool definitely allowed me to to stay upright more. The next time I use my trailer, I may be able to lift the hitch up and store it more conveniently in the trailer's compartment. 919577

I have a heavy husky hitch (centre line) and it really didn’t help at all. The husky hitch still requires two hand to left it. The hitch grip would probably work OK on a lighter Hitch but I don’t see the advantage of it even for a lighter hitch. I totally like ordering from etrailer and will continue to do so. 919242

  • Tools for Carrying a Weight Distribution System with a 2 Inch Hitch Ball Attached
The HitchGrip Carrying Tool for Weight Distribution Head Assembly with 2-5/16" Ball # 303-HG-712 is not available for a 2 inch hitch ball. There is not another carrier that utilizes the hitch ball for the carrying of the unit. You may however be interested in using the Classic Accessories Tow Bar and Weight Distribution Tote - 36" x 11" Wide x 8" Tall - # CA80113 to lift and transport your system. The handles of this tote are obviously made to be strong enough to lift and maneuver the system.

  • Is the HitchGrip Weight Distribution System Carrying Tool Compatible with a 2 Inch Hitch Ball?
The HitchGrip Carrying Tool # 303-HG-712 is only compatible with a 2-5/16 inch ball. Unfortunately there is not a 2 inch compatible option. However, I do have a possible solution to utilize that HitchGrip Tool. If your weight distribution system uses a 1 inch shank hitch ball, then you would use the Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Ball Set # 105TB to allow you to use this tool and have the proper hitch ball for your system. If your system need a 1-1/4 inch hitch ball shank you can use...

  • HitchGrip Compatibility With Adjustable Ball Mount With 2-5/8 Inches Between Ball And Drop Shank
I have some photos attached to help you with the dimensions of the HitchGrip # 303-HG-712. From the center of the ball to the outside edge of the handle and outside curve of the hitch ball clamp is 2-1/2 inches, so based on the 2-5/8 inch clearance between the ball and the draw bar, you will be able to use this to transport your adjustable ball mount with 2-5/16 inch hitch ball.

  • Trailer Hitch Ball Carrier for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System
I assume you are referring to a 2-5/16" trailer hitch ball as there is not currently a 2-5/8" hitch ball on the market that I am aware of. If it turns out that you do have a 2-5/16" hitch ball then you can use the HitchGrip Carrying Tool for Weight Distribution Head Assembly part # 303-HG-712 which is the only carrier of its kind that we currently offer. If you have an Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution then it would have most likely came with a 2-5/16" hitch ball.

The HitchGrip Carrying Tool for Weight Distribution Head Assembly with 2-5/16" Ball # 303-HG-712 cannot move a trailer, because you will have the coupler side not the hitch ball side of the assembly to work with. My recommendation to move you Trailx Kayak Trailer around is to use the MaxxTow MaxxHaul Dual Pull Trailer Dolly - 1-7/8" Hitch Ball - Steel - 600 lbs # MT70881.

  • Does HitchGrip Carrying Tool Have a Weight Limit
There isn't actually a maximum weight capacity for the HitchGrip Carrying Tool for Weight Distribution Head Assembly with 2-5/16" Ball # 303-HG-712. The only limit is that the hitch ball's neck diameter can be a maximum of 1-5/16" so as long as it is that size, you can use this with your weight distribution head. I have added a link to a video review for you to check out as well of the HitchGrip Carrying Tool for Weight Distribution Head Assembly with 2-5/16" Ball # 303-HG-712.

  • Do People Normally Remove Spring Bars of Weight Distribution System before Removing Head

  • Carrier Tool that Grabs the Hitch Ball
It sounds like you're referring to the HitchGrip Carrying Tool which is part # 303-HG-712. It's techincally designed for carrying a heavy weight distribution head but could be used for any ball mount. It's a reasonably new product and so far people love it. The only catch is that it only works with a 2-5/16 inch ball. I've linked a video review for you.

The HitchGrip Carrying Tool for Weight Distribution Head Assembly # 303-HG-712 that you referenced is balanced for carrying just the head and shank of a weight distribution system. • Recommended Weight Distribution System for Forest River E-Pro 20BHS
You are correct that you want to be within the weight range of a particular system and that has to do with the total tongue weight. That includes the loaded trailer tongue weight along with any cargo behind the rear axle of your truck. You want the total tongue weight to fall in the middle of the range of a weight distribution system ideally. If you travel with water tanks full, which most people don't unless you'll be dry dock camping, that will add significant weight. For your...
