Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Ford Escape, we're gonna be test fitting the Yakima RoundBar roof rack system consisting of part numbers Y00408. These are the 48 inch crossbars. We'll also be using part number Y03536, which is the round bar SL adapter kit. And finally part number Y00147 and this are the TimberLine towers for the Yakima crossbar, particularly for factory raised side rails. The Yakima RoundBar roof rack system's great for carrying a wide variety of accessories on your Escape while freeing up space inside your vehicle. This can carry anything from bike racks to cargo baskets to cargo boxes.
While the round bars are both strong and durable, they will make noise while you drive. You can purchase after market fairings to cut down that wind noise and drag, which you can find on etrailer.com, or you can upgrade your bars to aero bars or to the core bars in which combine the strength of these bars with the aerodynamic shape. At the end caps here, we do have plastic knockouts that can be replaced with the Yakima same key system, which is sold separately. So that not only can you secure it to your roof rack, but you an also make the key inaudible 00:00:59 with your accessories. Next I'd like to give you a couple quick measurements. From the center of the roof to the bottom of the bars' gonna be about two and half inches, but from the center to the top is gonna be about three and a half inches.
That gives you more than enough space in between the bar and the roof to attach your accessories without making any contact. I would like to, however, advise against using your sunroof once these are installed and once your accessories are installed as well. Now, the two bars combined have the carrying capacity of 165 pounds, but you always want to double check with your vehicles manual to make sure that it can maintain those weights on the roof. Now, that we've gone over some of the features of the roof rack system, let's go ahead and show you how it installs. We have our front bar already installed on our vehicle, and we have our rear bar partially assembled on our table here. So our first step is we're gonna take our adaptor kit, and we'll install it onto our tower here and then slide it out to the other end.
I would like to point out that while this does come with end caps as well, we went ahead and left them out for demonstration purposes, as once you put them in, they're pretty difficult to get back out. Our first step is we're gonna take our plastic piece and we're gonna push it into place on top of our tower. You'll hear like a click once it gets pushed into place. Open up our tower. We'll push this strap in like so.
Looking underneath to get to our bolt. Take our included tightening tool to do that. Then we'll take our round bar adaptor, push that into place. We'll tighten it down until you hear two audible clicks. Now that's the nice thing about this tightening tool. You don't over tighten anything. Isn't that cleverOkay. Now we can slide it onto our bar. Lift up our bar. We'll slide that over the end. And now we can set this on to these factory raised side rails on our vehicle. So, I'll set our rear bar into place. We're gonna make sure that the line here lines up with the top portion of our factory raised side rail. Next we'll take our measuring tape. Make sure it's even from center to center on both sides and then we'll measure for an overhang and make sure it's even on both sides as well. And then we can start tightening things down. When it comes to the measurement, you wanna make sure you don't go under 24 inches, otherwise go buy your accessory's recommendations. Alright. That looks even on both sides. Now, I'll wrap a rubber coated steel strap up underneath and tighten it down with our included tool to this bolt here. And you wanna tighten this down until you hear two or three audible clicks so you know it's completely tightened down. Now, once we've got this snug around, we'll go to the other side, snug it down. We'll also tighten this bolt down in the center . To tighten our leg or tower to our bar. And now we can install our end cap and we're ready to hit the road. And there you have it for the Yakima RoundBar roof rack system on our 2018 Ford Escape.
