Parts Needed to Install Round Yakima Crossbar Roof Rack on 2020 Toyota Highlander

Updated 03/31/2025 | Published 03/29/2025

Question:

I have a 2020 Toyota Highlander bare roof, but mounting spots for factory crossbars. I also have older Yakima and Thule roof racks for canoe / kayak. Is there a way to add raised side rails on the roof to then use the older roof racks? If not, what is my best option for adding cross bars? Thank you. Michael Roberts

Hey Michael, it sounds like you have a set of round Yakima crossbars (among other things) that you'd like to reuse on your 2020 Toyota Highlander that has factory fixed mounting points. For that the complete rack with everything including the bars would normally be the part # Y63FB but since you have the bars already what you'd want is the part numbers # Y53TR, # Y46VR, and # Y03536 which is everything you'd need minus crossbars.

If you have a different setup currently let me know and I'll see what you'd need!

Jameson: Thanks for the reply. What I am looking for -- if possible -- is how to add raised roof rails along the sides of the roof to then attach my own Yakima or Thule towers and crossbars to the roof. Is there a system to add raised roof rails to a bar roof with fixed mounting points. Looking for a raised rail along the lines of the one shown in several photos on your product page. In earlier internet searches, I found a couple that seem to attach via the fixed mounting points, and then had rubber or plastic feet at both ends. But was not sure if these were any good. I would rather find a solution with etrailer, as previous products have all been top quality. Thank you.

@Michael I wish we had that but we don't have a way to add raised side rails to the roof of your vehicle.
