Question:
I have Yakima 78 round bars on my 2015 Toyota Sienna van. I want to update my towers to a stronger product. I have 78 round bars. I saw some towers that have a wide stainless steel bracket wrapped in rubber. Is there one that will fit my van, which has raised factory rails on the roof?

Hey Jim, the best alternative to the mounting hardware you have now would be the current Yakima roof rack components that they list for installing the round bars on your 2015 Toyota Sienna which is their Timberline kit that consists of part numbers # Y33TR and # Y03536. How do you like the longer crossbars?

I have been using my round bars for over 25 years. I have the bar extender that is installed inside my front bar. To load a kayak on the roof I pull out and lock the extender. Run a strap between the end of the bars to create a place to lift the front of the kayak onto the van. Because the bars hang away from my van the kayak does not touch the van . The extender stops the bow from sliding off the strap. Then I lift the rear of the kayak onto the roof and slide it in place. So, I only lift half of weight. I also have the gunnel guards that fit the round bars. They keep the sides of the boat from moving around. So, I just wanted to upgrade to a stronger tower setup. Maybe I should buy the locks too. Can you imagine paddling to a take out to find your crossbars and towers missing from your vehicle? That would be like someone stealing your horse.
