Published 05/12/2020

Question:

I only have 9 inches of clearance thru my garage door.top of 4 runner factory side rails to garage door opening . I think platform has the look I want with platform side rails . You have an alternative. Not against factory side rail removal if look and clearance right. I saw something called LFD crossbars fit on factory rail system Toyota 4 runner. Install those permanent than as travel requires install components ?? What can etrailer show me.

For your 2020 Toyota 4Runner with the factory side rails, I recommend the Yakima LockNLoad Platform Roof Tray 60" Long x 54" Wide, part # Y05045. It's pretty low profile at only 4 inches tall, and it will not interfere with your sunroof, since it will sit right behind it. I've attached a couple of photos so you can see for yourself.

To attach the platform, you'll need the LockNLoad SL Adapters # Y05042-2 (qty 4), and TimberLine Towers # Y33TR (qty 4). This will add approximately another 3 inches of height.

Based on the clearance you require to clear your garage door opening, the alternative solution would be to install a Rhino-Rack Pioneer Platform Rack with their Backbone Mounting System instead. Installing the Backbone system will require you to remove your factory side rails, as it attaches directly to the mounting points found underneath of the rails. The Rhino-Rack Backbone Mounting System # RRRT4B1 is going to add between 2.5 to 3.5 inches to the roof of your 4Runner depending on where you measure. In order to use the Backbone system, you'll need to use a larger platform tray like part # RR79QX which includes a 76" long x 49" wide Pioneer Platform and all the parts necessary to install it in the fixed mounting points on your 2020 4-Runner and would add another 1.5 inches so you'd be most likely at 5- 6 inches of additional height. We do not carry the LFD crossbars you mentioned, so I really can't comment on their fitment, installation, functionality or which additional accessories can or cannot be added to them.
