This hitch receiver is sturdy and it works like it's supposed to. I use it for my Kuat 2-bike rack for hauling mountain bikes and gravel bikes. The installation process was pretty easy to follow from the instructional video by the manufacturer. After 1 year of use, the black powder coat finish is still intact.
2026 Subaru Outback Touring XT. The installation of the Curt Hitch #C67JR went smooth, no issues. It was a fairly easy install with basic hand tools however,it was time consuming (about 4hrs). The fit and finish is excellent and the shipping container was well packaged, no damage.
Excellent quality, fit perfectly in place. Little nervous about dismantling the rear my new Outback (and my wife was more nervous still), but the video was very clear and complete. Only oddity was the bolts I took out to remove the bumper frame had 17mm head and the bolts supplied to replace them needed 11/16” wrench. Still, all parts needed were there, and the fish wires (I only needed one) were phenomenal, making what would have been the most frustrating part of the job almost comically simple.
I appreciate that you've clearly thought through everything you can provide to make installation easy and successful

Good job Grant, congratulations on your successful install!
Installed on a 2025 Subaru Outback Premium.
First things first, the provided videos were excellent for installing this thing, except for the exhaust. I wish there was more visuals for this.
A few things:
When removing the fasteners along the wheel well, take pictures of the layout. Knowing the black fabric goes on the inside was golden knowledge when I was later reattaching the fasteners.
When installing the carriage bolt, if you're having issues threading it through, you can bend the wire. You may have to unbend it though when you try to pull the bolt through. I was able to reuse the wire on the right side, but had to pull it off on the left side. Glad there's two.
Torquing the left carriage bolt was an entire endeavor and probably the most exhausting part of this. You need to remove the isolators, but without the exact right fit, I kept slipping.
Even with the isolators removed, the exhaust kept going to the right, pushing my torque wrench and preventing me from doing it correctly.
I eventually ratcheted it down to the left to keep it in place to finally have a good angle at the thing.
The fasteners are annoying to take out and place back in. I recommend using the pry tool and another small pry tool to wrangle each one out. Each one has a internal piece and an outer piece. I had best success with separating them, pushing the outer part in, then the inner piece.
I used Inkscape to design a page with the correct sizing. After cutting, there's about an 1/8" gap, which is great.
I used a Dremel rotary metal cutter to cut it out, then ground it down a bit.
I have purchased several of these in the past and have been completely satisfied with all facets. Unfortunately, there was/is no video for this installation as this is a brand new model (2026 outback) and i had to do some creative twists to install it. I didnt want to remove the entire back panel (which is new this year) but i got figured out a way to finagle it in. I am very happy so far.
Clean install on 2021 Outback. Very clean look and fit very well. Couple of notes:
You can snake the carriage bolts though the tubes in the hitch easier than the frame access holes.
When you cut the underside of the number cover for clearance drill 3/8” holes at the corners and then cut the plastic to the holes leaving the outer curve of the hole intact. Square corners can create dress risers where the plastic can crack easier.
Very satisfied with the hitch and the customer service, would order from trailer again in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the tips, Kevin! Definitely helpful! ^___^ What are you going to be using this for now that it's on?
It's the right hitch. Fits fine and was easy to install. It took me a while. I was probably a little too deliberate about things, and my neighbor stopped by to chat.
The installation of this hitch is rated as difficult, but I think only because it's a little bit time consuming. It's not at all hard to do. One bolt that fastens the hitch to the frame rail is somewhat difficult to access, but I found that using a" wobbly" socket extension and pushing the muffler a bit out of the way, I could readily tighten the nut on that fastener. No need to remove the muffler.
this trailer hitch receiver WILL FIT your 2026 subaru outback!!! This is my 2nd receiver from e-trailers. 100% satisfaction
Fast shipping, great price, perfect fitment. 1 person install 2hrs

That is great to hear! I am glad it got to you quickly and you were able to install it yourself. What are you planning on using the hitch for?
This hitch fit our 2026 Subaru nicely with just a little trimming of the plastic piece under the car. The thing I like best is though is the service from Etrailer - nice people, good products, fair prices, and quick delivery. Thank you for a great experience.

Glad we could help, Brian! And thanks for the kind words! We do our best. ^___^ What are you going to be using the hitch for?
This was orderd for a 2024 Subaru Outback. I had just changed the hydrologic drive belt on a ZT lawnmower, and the installation of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver was by far the easier of the two tasks. The videos combined with the instruction sheet were very helpful. I really appreciate the included 2 fishing wires for the installation. It could be helpful if they would also include a drawn to scale printed template to use for the small section of the fascia that needs to be trimmed/cut.
Placed the order on Sunday afternoon, reciced an email that the order had been processed and the item was ready for shipping that same day. Hitch arrived on Wednesday. My wife is very pleased with her birthday present. Thank you to all the team etrailer!
Fast shipping, though the box arrived a little damaged. The installation videos were very helpful and made the process easier. Hardest part was taking the bumper fascia and torquing down the driver side carriage bolt. Hitch looks clean and fits my Kuat 2-bike rack perfectly.
The hitch seems very heavy duty and installed according to directions…. Was very pleased with how everything worked and lined up however, if it was just 2 1/2 inches higher, it would be nearly identical to the factory hitch and give even more ground clearance! And then for the price I would’ve given it six stars??
It is hard to justify spending $550 on the factory hitch just for an additional 2 1/2 inches
Just done with install, I’ve had some experience with the front bumper on a 99’ and found this install straight forward. The videos nailed it, shipping was super fast and emails with each step. I think a strap or something to help the hitch from sliding around in the box would benefit the handlers, box had forklift fork holes and part of the hitch was outside the box(no damage and it’s behind the bumper) All in all would use e trailer again and recommend, looks nice installed
Easy install following the diy video, was able to avoid lowering the exhaust with the use of a swivel socket.

The hitch has held up great and provided everything I asked for pulling my pop up camper. Great product.

etrailer is excellent as an online retailer for auto parts. I’m disappointed that my Curt hitch didn’t precisely line up with the holes on my base model 2020 Subaru Outback. I had to make slight refinements to the factory holes with a dremel. The videos show a higher trim model than mine, so I’m guessing that maybe this was the issue. It was close enough, but slightly annoying.
The hitch installation on my 2021 Subaru Outback XT took about 45 minutes. I watched the install video, gathered the required tools and got to work. Everything went together perfectly. So glad I installed the hitch myself.

After a year of use the hitch on my Outback is still looking and functioning like the day it was installed.
I procrastinated on ordering this hitch, for a 2025 Subaru Outback. By the time I ordered, I was afraid it wouldn't arrive in time for Christmas. Boy, was I wrong...it got to my house in two days, box was in good shape and the hitch inside had not a scratch. I might add that I installed one of these Curt hitches about 5 years ago, and so had an idea how the installs go. I watched a couple videos on You Tube and tackled it with my son helping, and it went very smoothly. Instead of trying to pry off the rubber muffler mounts and lower the exhaust assembly, we just removed two nuts and removed the muffler entirely, it was simple. The hitch holes all lined up well with existing holes in the car frame. This hitch is well designed and welded, and the powder coat paint had no chips or scratches. This was a gift for my wife's car, she needs it to carry a tray type bike rack for two E-mountain bikes. The bikes weigh about 55 pounds each, so total weight for two bikes and the rack is about 160 pounds, and well within the recommended tongue weight capacity of 350. If you are driving on rough dirt roads and carrying that much weight off the back of your car, you don't want to be worrying on every bump if what you bought is beefy enough to handle the strain. So, this was my second time buying and installing a Curt receiver hitch, and I would tell anyone I know that is looking for one, these are a great way to go.
The hitch is very well built. Pretty easy to install. If you aren’t too familiar with taking off bumper fascia, use a second pair of hands, so you don’t scratch it. The final result looks good, most of the hitch is hidden nicely. The wiring kit was decent a little too short of a T connection. Would have been nice to have more length between the Curt harness connections on both the left and right sides.

Thanks for sharing all your pics with us, Anthony! The hitch does look nice tucked under your 2021 Legacy :)
With the help of my sister, I installed it in under four hours. We took our time but for someone with a bit more experience the installation would probably be much quicker. The video was very helpful. No complaints about the product or the installation.
This item fit perfectly. We used it mainly for a bike rack and it is still I great shape. The whole assembly was easy to install and the videos made install even easier.
This is the second trailer hitch I've purchased from etrailer. Competitive pricing and fast shipping.
Goog quality. Fast shipping.
Still working great for towing my kayak trailer!

Glad it's still looking good and working well for you, Michael! What kind of bikes do you ride? My family was always riding GT back in the day and we had some pretty good rides we did in the mountains of Southern California.
